What I’m Watching: New Amsterdam, Manifest and A Million Little Things

What I’m Watching: New Amsterdam, Manifest and A Million Little Things

Posted by Dustin on 01.03.2019 at 10:46 am

So it’s been awhile, and I thought I’d actually make a TV post. I’m on semester break and have a few seconds to breathe. Shockingly the few news shows I picked up this fall became hits and haven’t been canceled. So here’s what’ve I’ve been watching…

The Chilling New Adventures of Sabrina
It only took me until Christmas Day to finally find the time to finish this one, and I absolutely loved it! Like everyone else, I hope we find out why the sisters have different accents, and who the parents of Ambrose are. Obviously, there is another sibling? And I really had hoped we’d get one last clue to what happened to Sabrina’s parents, but it seems the new headmaster may have done them in due to his thirst for power.

Manifest
I really am enjoying this show, my only fear is that it’s going to turn into another Lost, and they are all actually dead.

A Million Little Things
I only watched this one due to the cast, but became instantly hooked. I’m really enjoying it, but like Manifest, I don’t know how it will continue once the big mystery behind John is revealed. Often shows like this go downhill fast once the first mystery is solved and they just come up with absurd things to throw out there, like long lost kids (yeah I’m calling that one now).

New Amsterdam
I have no idea why I decided I needed to watch another medical drama, but I gotta say, this one is really good. The cast and characters are all equally fascinating and fun to watch, and the stories are really good.

Still watching . . . .
I’m still hanging on to Grey’s Anatomy, Supergirl, Flash, I got back into The Legends of Tomorrow after Constantine was added in. I grew tired of This is Us (which a friend calls This is Stupid), no longer bother with Hawaii Five-0, but am looking forward to the new Batgirl show which is supposed to debut this year. I did stop watching Gotham several seasons back. I definitely loved American Horror Story: Apocalypse, though it did take a few weeks to get good… basically when the witches showed up.

I Am Not Dead!

I Am Not Dead!

Posted by Dustin on 08.26.2018 at 7:18 pm

Yes, it has been a long time since I’ve posted to this blog, but like Kane in “Poltergeist 2,” I am not dead! I just have only so many hours in the day, and if I’m not sleeping then I’ve been teaching (increased workload there), working at Soaps.com (increased workload there too) or giving historic tours (which take up my nights). I honestly have been working non-stop for the past 3+ years, and haven’t had a real vacation in 4+ years. So yeah, I ended up neglecting this blog. I am hoping to at least try and get a weekly, or bi-weekly, post this fall on my various TV thoughts. I am also anticipating good things in 2019, which will hopefully make life easier for me. Fingers crossed!

Kane from Poltergeist 2

It doesn’t help that most of the shows, and the types of shows, I watched way back when I started this blog are dead and gone. I am still watching “The Flash” and “Supergirl.” I do my best to keep up with “Legends of Tomorrow.” I never got into “The Arrow,” which ironically started all of these. I can’t wait for “Batwoman” this fall though!

I loved “Riverdale,” but never watched the second season. I was, and am still hoping, to binge watch it in time for this upcoming third season.

I am still watching “Grey’s Anatomy,” though lord it is testing me like interns bothering Dr. Bailey. So is “American Horror Story.” That last “Cult” season was the worst. I have some seriously high hopes for the “Coven/Murder-House” crossover coming up wiht “American Horror Story: Apocolypse.” Don’t F*ck it up Ryan! Oh and I’m counting down to the final season of “Game of Thrones.”

On the reality front, “Big Brother” honestly gets worse every summer, and I stop watching earlier and earlier each year. I did enjoy the celebrity edition though, which a second season is coming. I’m still somewhat watching “Dancing With The Stars” too, and have fallen in lust with “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” How these women can put up with Dorito is beyond me! I’d tell her to pack up her phony accent and go back to England with PeeeeKaaayyy. Erika is one of my favorites, I was sad to see Eileen go, and Lisa Rinna is still killing it. I also still tune into “Project Runway,” which should be back soon. My favorite reality show still remains Bravo’s “Below Deck.” Lord the drama on this is better than on daytime!

A show I really wanted to watch but never did, was the CW’s reboot of “Dynasty.” I heard great things about it, and it too I want to try and binge before the new season. But will school starting around the corner, I don’t know if that will happen. It’s on my DVR to record though!

Anyway, there you have it. I keep trying to get back to this blog, but my nights (and days) have only so many hours.

I hope to be back in full force very soon!

I hope to be back in full force very soon!

First off, I’m so sorry for all but abandoning this blog. I was working three jobs this spring, and while I stayed caught up on TV, I just found no time to TV blog. I’m down to two jobs right now, as I don’t teach in the summer, and am really hoping to get back into the swing of blogging a few times a week.

Of course I’m watching “Devious Maids” and “Mistresses,” and soon “Big Brother” begins. I’m also excited about “American Gothic,” and any other horror like shows set to premier this summer. I still have to finish season 2 of “How to Get Away with Murder,” and I will have that done by this summer! There are a few Netflix shows I want to watch too.

What are you watching this summer?

What I’m Watching So Far . . . .

What I’m Watching So Far . . . .

Posted by Dustin on 09.23.2015 at 7:21 am

So premiere week has begun, though some shows still don’t come back until October. I’m trying to be cautious this year, as usually the shows I choose get canceled!

Aside from the normal shows I always watch like “Once,” “Castle,” “Nashville,” and “Grey’s,” I’ve FINALLY started binging on “How To Get Away With Murder” season 1. I won’t be done in time for Season 2, but I hope to be there and caught up by next week.

I’m still watching “Gotham,” though it’s not my favorite. I definitely enjoyed “The Flash” last season and plan to watch “Supergirl” this year.

I started “Scream Queens” last night and am half way through. Loving it! I have high hopes for “Horror Story Hotel,” as it can’t be any worse than last season’s “Freak Show.”

I’m not sure what other new shows I plan on picking up. I’m wary of “Blood and Oil” mainly because it will just remind me of “Dallas,” and I’m still mad they canceled it. Also certain TV sites are predicting it will be the first show canceled this year . . . that can’t be good!

What are you watching or plan to watch that’s new and are enjoying?

Nearly The End Of Summer Shows’ Thoughts

Nearly The End Of Summer Shows’ Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 08.10.2015 at 12:39 pm

As usual just trying to keep up with some quick thoughts on the shows I’ve been watching!

Big Brother 17
Worst – season – ever. They’ve at least started fighting, but watching these people is dullsville.

Devious Maids
I feel really bad for Carmen getting all “Irene Cara’d” by her label. Maybe she can pull a Prince and change her name to a symbol. Meanwhile Zoila is also about to get the old heave-hoe thanks to Genevieve’s new guy, who I hate. Go back to announcing the dog show dude! Loved that they had Spence counceling Taylor and not screwing her, but what is Michael thinking fooling around with his ex? She’s insane! Maybe that’s it, she’s insane and he’s not doing anything. I hope so.

Extant
I’ve gone from loving the show again to tolerating it. Molly’s son is creepy, and the humanics are basically going all terminator. I can see that the humans will have to team up with the aliens most likely to get rid of the robot problem that is coming.

The Fosters
So it would appear the mystery of who hit the Fosters car has been solved, and it was the owner of the other car’s kid all along, who lied about it being stolen. I was so sure it would be AJ’s brother. Now poor Rita has been possibly set up by her Girls United for beating them. Her own actions with her daughter though make it seem possible that she is an abuser, but I think they just want us to think that.

Falling Skies
I’m hating the turn on the latest episode with the Virginia regimen going totally insane on Tom and his men. It seems obvious they are actually under alien control. Something is wrong with that female captain for sure. There aren’t many episodes left and they seem no closer to winding down when we began this season.

Mistresses
I HATE that Calysta and Joss have turned on one another. This makes me so sad. It’s obvious that either her male assistant or the model her hubby was screwing killed her husband. Karen getting pregnant is going to be interesting, and I still don’t care about April’s story. At least her daughter has the boyfriend/principal’s number.

Pretty Little Liars
I’m ready for the finale and the reveal of Charles, and if we don’t get a reveal then I may need a new TV from the things I throw at it!

Proof
Definitely liking the show a bit more now that we’re exploring the woman with the green scarf warning the Doc to stop looking. Ooh! What isn’t she supposed to find?

Under The Dome
It was clear that the end of the world was orchestrated and that the dome is now just a large TV set showing those inside what they want them to see. You know what I want to see? Pretty much the entire kinship wiped out.

The Whisperers
Like PLL, I hope we get some answers soon. I really dislike the president, who knows his kid has been a target of drill yet still wanted to jail the only people who have leads and a real connection on whatever or whoever drill is.

Zoo
I all but stopped watching this one. I just became bored and figured I’d do a marathon once it was over, if I cared enough to go back.

A Smorgasbord of Finale Thoughts.

A Smorgasbord of Finale Thoughts.

Posted by Dustin on 06.03.2015 at 11:48 am

So I fell way behind with my blog this past year, mainly due to an increase in my hours working. I’m going to try and get back into the routine this summer and not lose it when the fall comes back around! This post is to give my quick thoughts on many of the finales for the shows I watch. It’s been awhile for some, so I’m doing my best to recall what happened.

Grey’s Anatomy
I’m still furious that they killed of McDreamy, but at least Meredith, her sister and Amelia all ended up in a good place with one another by the end of the season. Meredith moving back to her old house was a great idea too. As for Jackson and April, I hope they work things out.

Grimmm
I’m stunned they actually killed off Juliette, but was glad the did so as she became a real witch. It seems she really is dead, or the show really wants us to believe that for now. Her death also opens up the possibility of something between Adalind and Nick. I am confused as to if Adalind has lost her powers again though. Meanwhile that weird organization seems to be after Truble, but I can’t help but worry she’s already working with them and called them in.

Nashville
It looks like Deacon’s sister Bev is a goner, as I refuse to believe they will kill Deacon off the show. The arrest of Teddy was shocking, though not as shocking as the fact that Tandy was the real mastermind behind many of her father’s dirty dealings. I wonder if this means she’ll return next year? I loved that Will finally came out of the closet. It’s about time! Juliette’s story was heartbreaking, and I can’t believe that witch betrayed Rayna by going to Jeff.

Sleepy Hollow
The death of Ichabod’s wife Katrina was just as fulfilling as Juliette on Grimm. What’s with these good girls gone bad? Jeremy also got his it would seem, after taking out Molloch. I’m not sure who there is to be the next big bad now? Old headless?

Gotham
I watched “Gotham” this season, but honestly near the end of the season started to lose interest. The final few shows with the discovery of the batcave and the bloodbath amongst the mobsters was really good though.

The Flash
“The Flash” was probably my favorite new show all year, and one of my favorites period. I loved the characters, and the villains, and cannot wait for it to return. Given they killed erased Wells from history, well his imposter, I can’t help but wonder what repercussions throughout time that will create. There basically should be no Flash right now, as Well’s created him! This is a possible way to bring back the real Wells if they want to though.

The Returned & Bates Motel
I completely lost interest in these two A&E shows. I do want to try and finish “The Returned” at some point this summer, as well as watch the original French version. I did see the final few episodes of “Bates,” especially after hearing about the pivotal final scene.

Once Upon A Time: Lions and Tigers and Bears !?!?!

Once Upon A Time: Lions and Tigers and Bears !?!?!

Posted by Dustin on 03.24.2014 at 6:04 pm

So I feel like last night’s was one of “those” episodes of “Once” where we got introduced to yet another princess, who we will likely never see again, and learned almost NOTHING new. These episodes frustrate me as much as Peter Pan does/did. Worse yet, I don’t feel like this one was entertaining. At least if it’s gunna be filler, take me on a ride.

The first few minutes, and the last few minutes, gave us the only clues as to what the witch is up to. Zelena needed some of Rumple’s blood to open a blood locked safe in his room. Now she clearly needed Regina’s to get into the castle, though she claimed she was Cora’s daughter and that’s how she got in (or that Cora told her how to at least). So it may appear that she’s neither Cora nor Rumple’s daughter, as if she was she should theoretically be able to use her own blood to break the locks? She then stole something from his cabinet, a root she later used to poison Charming’s drink with. The root, we learned from flashbacks was supposed to ease one’s fears. It seems to actually make them manifest into a bizarre creature instead.

Charming was drugged and forced to face his fears, much like in the past Repunzal had to face hers as well and battle the same creature. Charming’s fears were that he’d be a bad father, but he overcame them and slayed a beast with his sword, which then vanished with the beast. Later it was Regina who told him this was not good, the sword was a symbol of his courage and now it’s been stolen . . .

We saw Zelena leaving Snow’s place, secure in her job as her new midwife, with a bag of trinkets. One of those was Charming’s courage, the other’s I’m guessing are some brains and heart? She’s stealing the wizard’s gifts? What for?

By the end Hook, Charming, Regina and Emma had found the empty cell where Rumple once was. Left behind were a spinning wheel and gold straw, and they knew who was there.

I’m so confused!

ABC/NBC September/October Spoilers . . . . Plus Other Show Musings

ABC/NBC September/October Spoilers . . . . Plus Other Show Musings

Posted by Dustin on 09.24.2013 at 9:08 pm

Still trying to 1) get accustom to the fact that Fall TV has started and 2) figure out everything I’m watching this year!

I haven’t decided on “Betrayal,” and I’m over “Revenge.” I meant to try and watch “Scandal” this summer but never did and don’t want to jump into it in the third season . . . Maybe I can still at some reasonable point catch up via on demand/hulu as I know the first season was only 8 episodes.

On other networks, I actually enjoyed “Elementary” last season on CBS, at least when I was able to catch up on shows. Thursday nights are just too full as is, so I would watch them on demand later on. I missed the premier of “Hostages” on CBS, I’ll catch it on demand, though I don’t know if it will really grab me. They’ve moved “Hawaii-Five-0” to the Friday death slot. I never covered it on here, and now I fear this is likely the final season.

On NBC I do plan to keep watching “Revolution,” even though last season irked me so badly. “Parenthood” and “Grimm” I of course adore.

On Fox of course is “Glee” and I think I’m probably adding in “Sleepy Hollow.” I just have to remember to DVR it!

Looking forward to “East End” on Lifetime.

Below are ABC and NBC show spoilers for those I know I plan on watching. Mini-spoilers before the full blown ones!

On “Grey’s Anatomy,” this is Christina’s last season, and possibly others. Richard is still alive though! Also the 200th episode with a big fund raiser ball.
On “Nashville,” Rayna’s in the hospital, Deacon’s in jail, Juliette’s all about herself. A new head at the record label will turn everything upside down though.
On “Agents of Shield,” watching the pilot right now and trying to figure it all out 🙂 Spoilers for the next two episodes though.
On “Once Upon A Time,” the search for Henry in Neverland is on. A new Robin Hood and the Little Mermaid are appearing in the first two episodes.
“Once Upon A Time In Wonderland” premiers. Alice tries to find a way back to Wonderland after coming home and everyone thinks she’s insane.
On “Parenthood,” Hank returns to town to surprise Sarah, and Amber’s troubled boyfriend moves in!
On Revolution,” it’s a whole new world after last season with Rachel flipping the switch. What that means . . . not sure. We know they didn’t all explode though!

Read on for the full spoilers . . . .

The Fosters, Mistresses And More!

The Fosters, Mistresses And More!

Posted by Dustin on 06.13.2013 at 7:45 pm

So this is another general Summer TV post. I’m soon going to split these up, and start including spoilers for the shows. I’m just still trying to get my feet wet with all of them.

First off, I pretty much gave up on “The Have and The Have Nots.” I completely forgot to watch this week’s episode, and I could barely pay attention to last weeks. Maybe I’ll attempt an on-demand marathon at some point, but right now I think that show just stinks.

I’m loving “The Fosters” on ABC Family. Sure it’s predictable and quirky at this point, but there is something about it that has pulled me in. I still am trying to learn their names, but piano-boy’s (Brian?) girlfriend is gunna do something bad to Foster girl at some point out of jealousy. I also wonder if the cop-wife will end up cheating on her wife with her ex-husband/new partner. That’s out of the “Queer as Folk” playbook mind you.

I’m also enjoying “Mistresses,” as cheesy as it is. I feel like the previews at the end of each episode are giving away WAY too much info though. I feel like I know what is going to happen for half of the season! Given it’s a summer show, I don’t expect ABC to pull it if the ratings are bad (which it seems they are). They probably just won’t renew it.

Finally I watched ABC Family’s new show “Twisted” and loved it! I hope it doesn’t become another “9 Lives of Chloe King” though and last for one season. Though after his mystery is solved as to why he killed his Aunt, what is left? That does have me a bit worried. I also worry it will just turn into a “Pretty Little Liars” clone.

That’s about it for now. I also plan to try and watch the first couple of seasons on “Scandal” over the summer since everyone seems to love that show.

Summer Soapy Goodness

Summer Soapy Goodness

Posted by Dustin on 06.04.2013 at 12:54 pm

So it looks to be a sizzling soapy summer. I’ve been tuning into some of the new nighttime dramas on a few networks. Some sizzle, some don’t. Time will tell what will happen with them.

“The Have and Have Nots” is a new soap from Tyler Perry on the OWN network. This one debuted last week. Tonight will be the second episode. I don’t know about this one. I couldn’t figure out if it was supposed to be camptastic on purpose, or if it was just downright cheesy bad. The show is almost a direct clone of “Passions” in a way, just without the magic. There are the rich families with their scandals and the poor ones, who work as the maids and housekeepers for the rich people. In fact, Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald is in it . . . and she’s a maid. Shocker!

“The Fosters” premiered on ABC Family last night, and this show I really liked. Granted I only watched it because a certain group is against it and trying to get it taken off the air cause it’s about a lesbian couple raising a family of kids and they take in two new troubled fosters. However it was a really good show, and I like a lot of the cast. It did have a lot of predictable soapy moments, but it was well made and kept me entertained and watching the whole hour . . . something the “Have Nots” really didn’t do.

Finally “Mistresses” aired on ABC. This is a remake of a hit BBC show. I never saw the BBC one to compare this too. I basically watched it because of Alyssa Milano. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great, it was your standard nighttime soap. It’s about four women who end up either being mistresses, or finding out their husband had a mistress. Actually in one case I think the guy is actually the mistress . . . not sure what you’d call him?
