There isn’t too much reason to recap to the show finale as far as I can tell, but I will provide the basics before getting into my thoughts. If you have NOT watched the finale yet, stop reading unless you want to be spoiled!
Wakefield was caught, placed in jail, and revealed to Abby that her mom had a kid, which she had and gave up. Wakefield said he found “him.” Madison meanwhile revealed someone brought her and Wakefield food when they were in the sewers, so he had a helper.
Others (SUlly, Jimmy, Abby) managed to find a boathouse with a radio and call the coastguard. Wakefield escaped jail and killed Danny. He then went after Trish, who ran into Henry. Henry turned out to be Wakefield’s kid and his accomplice. Henry then killed Trish!
The 2nd hour started with a flashback of Henry and Abby hanging out as kids. It was clear Abby’s mom knew Henry was her kid and she gave him up to Henry’s adopted mom.
Henry and Wakefield regrouped, while Shea and Madison joined with Sully. The coast guard was delayed, so Sully got Shea and Madison into a boat to get off the island. He wouldn’t go as he didn’t want to leave Henry. Henry showed up and played innocent, luring Sully out to help him find Trish. Sully began to realize someone helped Wakefield out. They played what if, and Henry basically admitted that if he found out he was adopted and lied to his whole life he’d want revenge too.
Abby and Jimmy were off on their own and found Trish dead. Abby and Jimmy made it to the boat house and talked to the coast guard, finding out Henry and Sully were told to go to the marina to meet with the coast guard.
Henry then told Sully that Danny was dead, he killed Trish and then he killed his brother JD! Henry said Sully deserved to know the truth before . . . John Wakefield is his dad and the only person who was ever honest with him. Henry admitted he killed the reverend, Katherine, and Richard; Wakefield killed the others. The money they found was Uncle Marty’s, to invest in Malcolm’s brewery . . . he set Malcolm up to find the money just to see what he’d do. Wakefield showed up and Sully got killed by Henry.
Henry and Wakefield lured Abby and Jimmy to them. Henry met them and played innocent still. He lead them to the church where Trish’s body was placed at the altar. Wakefield then showed, Jimmy and him fought. The chopper came, when Jimmy told her to signal . .. Wakefield said “Henry she’s getting away!” Jimmy spiked Wakefield with a flare, but Henry seemed to shoot Jimmy.
Henry went after Abby, told her that Wakefield got Jimmy. Abby then began to realize Henry was the accomplice. Wakefield showed up and Henry killed him, his own father! Abby knew it was Henry, he was the kid and the accomplice. Henry knocked her out as the chopper flew by.
Shea and Madison made it to safety and were talked to by the police. They were told John Wakefield’s body was found, he’s dead, as are everyone else, and basically Shea and Madison are the only survivors.
Back in the island, Henry hid out with Trish in someone’s home. Henry said he chose her over his father, admitted he was the Wakefield kid, and basically he’d been in love with her since kids. He used the wedding to lure her back to the Island. Abby realized Henry not only loved her, but that he was her brother!
Henry explained he met Wakefield the day he was on his killing spree years ago, and how they had a connection when their eyes met. A year later Wakefield found him and told him the truth. Henry thought it was a powerful love his father had for him. Henry said he always had certain impulses, he just didn’t understand till he met his dad. Henry was killing all over the northwest coast, he was the copycat the Sheriff was tracking off the island.
Abby was sickened that Henry knew the truth all along. Henry claimed he was done killing, he chose life with her and that he loved her, he was different than his dad. She tried to run, only to find Jimmy tied up and still alive.
Henry said he faked all their deaths, the police will think they are all dead in a fire in the church. Abby asked why Jimmy was alive? Henry said Shea and Madison got off the island, not part of the plan, so he has set Jimmy up as an accomplice in order so that the two of them can live together. He thinks Jimmy will confess so that she goes free and lives.
Henry took Abby to see Jimmy later on (she agreed to leave with him if she could say goodbye). Abby attacked Henry and ran, Henry chased after her. She managed to drop a lockpick for Jimmy though. Jimmy got loose and came after Henry. They got knocked over a cliff or something while fighting, and Jimmy was stuck on the rocks below. Abby picked up a sword laying by Jimmy (I guess he had it) and she stabbed Henry who came up behind her. Henry said he loved Abby as he died.
Jimmy and Abby then got off the island on a boat while they kissed and made out. The show ended with these videos made on the boat as they were to take off for the island. Everyone was congratulating Trish and Henry on their wedding.
My Thoughts
Okay Henry? Seriously? That’s like Horror Movies 101. Sorry, but while I didn’t want it to be Henry, and even though I thought it might be shocking if it was Henry (over the more predictable Jimmy). . . seeing it happen was a let down big time. I guess at this point a lot of people as the Wakefield kid would be a letdown cause we’ve thought of everyone, but Henry? I would rather it had been Trish or even Sully, that would have been more “shocking” than Henry. People guessed Henry half-way through the season (again cause it’s the horror movie cliche). I think that is why having it be him isn’t as big of a shock as having it be someone else.
Henry being in love with his sister is very “Flowers of the Attic.” Ew ew ew! Just like we (or I) speculated it was Jimmy in love with his sister Abby . . . well again not to far off, just the wrong guy as the brother.
What I guess I did like was that the Wakefield copycat the Sheriff tracked was Henry all along. That was a nice add/twist. I had forgotten about all the killings elsewhere the Sheriff had been following.
I started to suspect Madison would be Henry’s spawn via an affair with Shea, only to make way for a sequel. That was never really revealed. I’m still not convinced she isn’t though, and if they ever wanted to do a sequel season or straight to DVD flick that she would be the killer.
Anyways, the season is already available for pre-order and comes out on September 8th. Whether it will be an uncut unrated (ie more gory/sexy) version isn’t known yet. I haven’t decided if I will buy it or not. I need to let this finale soak in for awhile 🙂

So “Harper’s” is winding down. Next week there is no new episode (I think it’s a repeat) and in 2 weeks is the two hour finale, which the promo teases “secrets and the killer revealed.”
This week’s episode was amazing, but really was mostly a lot of running from the killer, or hunting him down. I’m gunna try and provide some kind of recap of the main events that happened (I was suffering a migraine, so some might not be 100% accurate). After the mini-cap some thoughts on who I think is the 2nd killer (and probably Wakefield’s kid).
The show started off with a recap of Abby’s father getting killed. Henry and Danny showed up to basically find Wakefield standing in front of Abby. He ran off because they arrived. Abby said her father was her father, she told him. Danny pondered if this was all about Wakefield getting revenge on the sheriff, then would it end here? They soon got the answer, Wakefield was out to keep killing, and nobody knew why. Cal offered the idea later that maybe the man is nuts and just likes to kill.
At the Candlewick, Henry, Abby and Danny returned and told everyone it is Wakefield, he is alive. Suddenly Wakefield showed up and killed the blond who worked there. Shane faced off with him, and lost his life as Trish, armed with a gun, led everyone out a back window.
Trish led everyone to the Sheriff’s place, saying Abby brought her here and they’d be safe. When asked about Jimmy, Trish said something to the effect that Wakefield got Shane, she guessed he got Jimmy too. Trish apologized to Abby for sending her into that trap, but Abby said for a few she also thought it was her dad behind it all. They found the maps of the tunnel at the Sheriff’s place and realized this is how he was getting around, they had to close up the tunnels to stop him. Madison and Shea were left behind at the Sheriff’s for safety.
Church bells began to ring, and people on various parts of the island thought someone was signaling to them, or it was a trap.
Everyone went to the church, where one tunnel entrance was. Cal and Sully turned up (cause of the bells), with the bad news that the other boat was gone, they were stuck here. Wakefield’s face flashed by quickly, and before they knew it, Chloe had gone missing. Wakefield took her and held her captive in this pipe/bridge thing that spanned the falls on the island.
Jimmy showed up around this point, alive and okay. He said he woke up, Shane was strung up and dead. He had been looking all over for them when he also heard the bells.
Cal, Henry and Abby decided to go look for Chloe. Sully and Danny went back to the Candlewick to close off the tunnel there. Trish and Jimmy would get the third entrance which was in the woods near where they found Abby and Madison.
Cal found Chloe, while Henry and Abby were chasing Wakefield nearby. Cal saved Chloe, but then Wakefield arrived and killed Cal, throwing him off the bridge. Chloe refused to let Wakefield have her, and jumped off killing herself (moments before Cal had proposed to her). Henry and Abby were on the side of one of the falls and saw it all.
Jimmy and Trish were in a truck blocking/guarding one of the entrances. Trish had fallen asleep with a gun. Jimmy took it, only saying it was dangerous for her to sleep with a loaded gun. Back at the Sheriff’s office, Shea yelled at Madison, who was going through the files the Sheriff had. Earlier they had looked at how the Sheriff was tracking Wakefield and theorizing there were two killers. Shea told her to stop looking through them. Madison says she wasn’t, it seems the Sheriff had a lot of information on someone else . . . Jimmy! He had a whole box on Jimmy, including police records of some kind.
My Thoughts
So after seeing the box of files on Jimmy, I think he’s a red herring. The show, even in the teasers for the 2-hour finale, makes it seem like Jimmy is the 2nd killer. There are the questions like why did Wakefield spare him at the Candlewick, and how did he survive that explosion that have yet to be answered. I think they are there so we suspect Jimmy as the 2nd killer.
However the Sheriff, right before dying, told Abby he traded his life’s for Jimmy’s, that Jimmy loved her and would take care of her. If the Sheriff really thought Jimmy was a bad guy, I don’t think he would have done that. Now of course I could be all wrong, and the show could go for Jimmy as the bad guy, which would be a little predictable.
After this last episode, I have to say I am really wondering about Trish though. Several things were off with her. She had a clear shot at Wakefield in the Candlewick and didn’t take it. Why? She later told Abby and the others that Wakefield had gotten to Jimmy, which we know he didn’t. It was Trish who had wanted to send Abby to see her father the episode before. At one point Chloe said to Trish “Why did you have to pick this stupid island for your wedding.” Chloe went missing when she was standing right next to Trish? Hmmmmm, is she the 2nd killer? Is she the real Wakefield kid? Her mom died awhile ago, and I don’t think we ever got the whole story on that did we? (Other than I don’t think she was a Wakefield victim).
**Correction ** This is the 11th episode, so there are two left after this (13 episodes). The show was originally scheduled to end July 2nd, but then CBS moved it from Thursday to Saturday in the US, and interrupted it another week and just ran Mentalist reruns. Thus assuming there is an episode on the 4th of July then the final episode should be July 11th. If they bump the 4th, it will go to the 18th. (It looks like CBS may simply run 2 episodes on the 11th for a two hour finale)
THE GROUP GOES ON THE OFFENSIVE AS THEY TRY TO RESCUE ONE OF THEIR OWN, ON “HARPER’S ISLAND,” SATURDAY, JUNE 27
“Splash” – After being rocked by more deaths and the disappearance of another friend, the group fights back and is more determined than ever to track down the island’s killer, on HARPER’S ISLAND, Saturday, June 27 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
This week the show opened with everyone learning the sheriff had taken Madison, and that Mrs. Wellington was now dead as well. Meanwhile two federal agents were flying in by chopper to supposedly pick up J.D. and take him into custody for the murders, unaware that he wasn’t the killer and was dead. When they landed though, someone dressed as the sheriff greeted them on the docks and then shot them.
Everyone on the island decided it was finally time to high tail it off. They decided to go use one of the boats at the marina to get off the place. Jimmy ran toward the boat ahead of everyone else. Shane yelled at him to stop, having spotted something, but it was too late. The boat blew up and then someone unseen began shooting at everyone. Everyone fled back into a tavern near the docks. Later the wedding planner and another girl from the manor showed up, knowing this place had a generator when nothing else on the island seemed to be working.
Everyone was convinced the sheriff had done it all, but Abby needed proof. She, Henry and Trish went to check out the sheriff’s place. They found a photo of Wakefield as well as maps of the tunnels under the island. That was enough proof for Trish. They went back to the tavern, where Cal and his girlfriend showed up. They said the sheriff had disappeared on them. Cal didn’t think the sheriff was in much condition to run or do much physically, he was still breathing on an oxygen tank. Shane revealed he had seen one on the docks. He also saw the two federal agents bodies in the water. That is why he was yelling to Jimmy to stop, he knew something was wrong. Abby was beside herself, she had never even told Jimmy she loved him.
Everyone soon realized there was another boat they could use (Shane and Jimmy’s, or maybe Trish’s dad’s? I can’t recall whose it was), but it was on the other side of the island. Cal volunteered to go for it and Sully agreed to go with him. They ran for a truck, with Cal being shot on the way. They sped off, but Cal was bleeding badly. Eventually he told Sully he would have to save his life, he’d talk him through what to do.
Back at the tavern, they began to hear someone on the roof. Suddenly the wedding planner was hung and thrown over the roof, danging outside the window. Jimmy’s body then turned up, he wasn’t dead after all. He was unconscious, and they found Abby’s room key at the inn on him. Abby had not given it to him, and they all felt it meant the Sheriff wanted to see her. She agreed to go if this was all about her.
At the inn Abby walked in to see her dad standing suspiciously by a window. He told her she needed to leave now, it was a trap! HE had given himself up to save Jimmy. He revealed that Wakefield wasn’t dead. He shot him years ago, but had buried someone else’s body in that grave. Wakefield was back, he was using everyone they love to off them one by one. She asked if she was Wakefield’s child? The sheriff said no, she was his daughter, always remember that. The sheriff was then ripped out the window! He had a rope attached to his neck, and Wakefield took off in a car and dragged him along. Abby ran out and came face to face with Wakefield, who said she looked just like her mother.
Back at the tavern, Madison told her mom that she had lied, the sheriff didn’t take her. She said her new friend told her to say that. She says he said if she didn’t then mommy would disappear just like daddy had.
My Thoughts
So after all this time it really was Wakefield? Seriously? I don’t know, it seems to be a total cop-out. They could have done much more with this. We already know the second twist will be someone “shocking” as his kid, who is probably helping him. So it’s not going to be a shock, unless his kid is someone completely unexpected like Henry. The previews next week hint that there is another killer on the island as well, which I speculated about last week. There had to be two killers to explain it all.
Jimmy is looking suspicious, and the previews again make it out to seem like he could be in on it. Is he Wakefield’s real kid? That would mean incest love between him and Abby though. Ew! Booth could also be a possibility, as I still don’t buy his shooting himself death. Again though, the shocker would be to have someone like Henry the kid, or even Trish. Maybe they could still make Abby the kid too, as the sheriff’s final confession could have just meant he raised her, she was his daughter.
Madison . . . . jeeze what is up with this creepy kid? I’m sorry, but something is seriously wrong with this child. I think she’s a psychopath with no conscience at all. She’s acted weird from the start and has just been lying and doing odd things. If they ever did a second season of Harper’s Island, she’s gunna be the new killer, mark my words! The child is nuts.
AN EXPLOSION AT THE MARINA ROCKS THOSE STRANDED ON THE ISLAND, ON “HARPER’S ISLAND,” SATURDAY, JUNE 20
“Snap” – While attempting to get to a boat that will take everyone off the island, a massive explosion destroys the marina. The group retreats to a hideaway where a secret is revealed that leaves the group reeling, on HARPER’S ISLAND, Saturday, June 20 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
As usual, first a recap, then some thoughts. Not much to recap this time, as a lot of the show was people crawling through tunnels 🙂
The show picked up with everyone knowing JD was dead and looking for his killer. Henry, as predicted, found him first and tried to save him . . . that’s why he was covered in blood. Shane joined up with the others at Wellington Manor, where Abby and Jeremy brought the Sheriff. Cal, who is apparently a nueroanatamist hooked the Sheriff up to an IV drip (which I guess they got from a hospital or something) and stabilized him. Abby meanwhile looked through the book her dad told her to get. She found out her mom was pregnant with Wakefield’s child at some point and felt it could be her. Shocking!
Soon everyone realized Beth had gone missing. They began looking around, Sully and Danny found a trail of blood leading them to some old prohibition tunnels under the manor . Several of them went into the tunnels, and Abby got cut off when a grate fell down on her.
Meanwhile Shea and Trish ended up stealing Shane’s truck to try and go find the psychic from the bachelorette party, thinking she might know where Madison was.
Back in the tunnels, Abby found a room where Madison was. They escaped and eventually climbed up a sewer drain, to be rescued by Trish and Shea who were on there way back to the manor.
Cal and his girlfriend meanwhile had made love, as she was turned on watching him save the sheriff. Later though the sheriff was gone! Everyone ran out to see Madison. Madison asked Abby if she liked the game, the man who took her said she would. Abby asked who took her? Madison said “the sheriff!” Meanwhile Shane was still inside with Mrs. Wellington, who was asleep in a chair. He went to wake her to tell her Madison was here. Then he saw blood pouring out, someone had stabbed her in the back with garden shears.
My Thoughts
Clearly they are making it look like the Sheriff is now the prime suspect, but he couldn’t have killed his old deputy last week. Did he take Madison though? Probably, only to keep everyone on the island so that he could lure the killer out.
Who is the killer? I still think Booth is a possibility because he was the only one not killed by the killer, and nobody knows where his body is.
I’m also wondering if there isn’t two killers at work here. At this point that might be the only way to explain it, as almost everyone can be accounted for when a murder happened.
WITH MEMBERS OF THE WEDDING PARTY DEAD AND ANOTHER MISSING, THE REMAINING GUESTS START TURNING ON EACH OTHER, ON “HARPER’S ISLAND,” SATURDAY, JUNE 13
“Seep” – The remaining members of the wedding party begin to turn on one another. Then, after finding maps of the island’s underground tunnel system, they all join together to search for a Madison on HARPER’S ISLAND, Saturday, June 13 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Yet another great episode. I’ll be sad to see this show end. First up a recap, followed by my thoughts.
With JD in jail, everyone was planning to flee the island. However Trish’s sister realized her daughter Madison was gone. Richard was also missing, and she suspected he had kidnapped her.
JD told the sheriff he was innocent, and where he could find his old deputy Cole who could vouch for him. The sheriff left to see him. Once gone, someone came in, cut the power at the jail and shot the deputy. JD grabbed the keys and escaped, but left the other prisoner Shane in his cell.
While hunting for Madison, Abby, Trish and Henry found Richard speared to a tree. Meanwhile some of the others found what was left of Malcolm in the furnace. Abby then got a call from Madison, saying if anyone left the island then she would die.
The sheriff, meanwhile, fell into one of Cole’s traps and his leg was wounded. Cole took him back to his cabin. He told the sheriff JD was innocent, he was helping him try and catch this killer. He says if it’s not Wakefield, it’s someone doing a damn good job imitating him. He had just come back to the island, but said it was Abby who was the trigger. He told the sheriff he was pretty dumb if he didn’t see what this was about. He tossed him some journal which the sheriff looked at, we don’t know what was in it. Cole realized he had to go get help or the sheriff would lose his leg. As he left, someone shot him with an arrow and set him and the cabin on fire!
Back at the Wellington place, Sully was trying to convince everyone they should leave. Madison’s mom said they couldn’t. Suddenly the power went out. Abby’s boyfriend showed up, he said the boats left already. Sully said that at this point, the staff and others had left, so they should go too. Abby wanted to find her dad, so she and her boyfriend went to the station. There they found the dead deputy and Shane told them what happened and where the sheriff went.
Abby and her boyfriend found the sheriff and saved him from the cabin. He told Abby to get the journal Cole had on him, it was important. He then said she had to get off this island and asked the guy to use his boat to take her off. They headed to the marina.
Sully and everyone else headed to the marina to try and steal someone’s boat. Cal however wouldn’t leave, he couldn’t with Madison still there, it wasn’t right. He told his girlfriend to stay with him too. Sully was determined to leave with or without them. They all suddenly saw JD running by.
Abby arrived and gun in hand scouted around. She ended up finding a bloody and dying JD. She asked who did this to him? He told her this was all about her, everything was about her. Abby turned around to see Henry standing there covered in blood!
My Thoughts
So the way it ended made Henry look like a suspect, but I don’t think he is. He probably found his brother and tried to chase after the killer or something. He was also shown in promos for next week with others, so I’m guessing they’ll explain it along the lines of my guess.
Cal not wanting to leave and trying to convince the others to stay was pretty suspicious I must say!
I still think something is up with Booth and there is a reason his body hasn’t been seen or found.
What’s in the journal about Abby? Again I think they are hinting that Abby is Wakefield’s daughter. Cole told the Sheriff that he worked with him for so many years, how could he be so blind and not see “this.”
What if Abby’s boyfriend is the killer? Cliche, but it might fit that it’s about her.
Anyways, the show still airs it’s original day Thursdays in Canada. So I beg our Canadian friends, please please no major spoilers 🙂 Especially when we get near the end, I know I don’t want to know who the killer is ahead of time before it’s revealed on air!
A WEDDING PARTY MEMBER GOES MISSING, STRANDING THE REMAINING GUESTS ON THE ISLAND, ON “HARPER’S ISLAND,” SATURDAY, JUNE 6
“Gurgle”- A guest disappears as the wedding party prepares to board the ship for home. A mysterious phone call informs Abby that if anyone leaves the island, the missing person will be killed, on HARPER’S ISLAND, Saturday, June 6 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Not too much that wasn’t shown on the previews, and we know it’s the little girl Madison.
