Last night was the final episode of “Drop Dead Diva,” at least on Lifetime. The man behind the show, Josh Berman, told TV Line that he would love to continue the show on another network. My thoughts on that idea in a few. First I want to tackle the end of the show on Lifetime.
So I feel like this final episode was blasé. There was nothing extraordinary about it at all, even the cases weren’t that thrilling. It seemed like by time we got to the last 5 minutes of the show, someone realized “Oh yeah, this is the last episode, let’s find a way to wrap everything up and fast!” I think when it came to wrapping things up, even that was a let down. We didn’t get to see a Stacey and Owen wedding as she went into labor . . . hell we didn’t even get to see their kids really! Owen just patches things up with Jane, while Kim is caught up with her new boyfriend. The only person who seemed to get a real solid ending was Teri, who is going off to pursue her singing career. Paul is just stuck with Jane and NuGrayson I guess, and nobody else found out the truth about Jane and NuGrayson. I guess I just wanted, no expected more out of this finale episode.
As I said earlier, the Berman told TV Line he would love to continue to explore these characters on another network if possible. However killing Grayson off makes that unappealing to this fan. If the show continued, I’d want it to continue with the real Grayson. That clearly can’t happen unless they pull a “Ghost Whisperer” on us, and that one with Jim/NuJim still makes me cringe to this day. I do understand the twist ending, it’s about true love winning out over all odds. Fine, leave it with this crappy ending as far as I’m concerned. Don’t bring it back and continue the adventures of Jane and NuGrayson. As Sweet Brown would say . . . Ain’t nobody got time for dat!
Lifetime Sunday: Thoughts On The Diva And The Maids
Posted by Dustin on 06.09.2014 at 3:50 pm
So I am just not liking “Drop Dead Diva” right now if I have to be honest. The whole killing Grayson off just sucks! I realize on some weird level it does make sense, and this now evens the playing field for Deb/Jane and Grayson/Ian. They’ve both died and come back in new bodies for their one true love . . . However we never got attached to Deb. She died in episode one. The payoff has been for Jane to get Grayson! So help me if this whole thing turns out to be “Deb in a coma dreaming” at the end . . . I will be so mad!
Onto “Devious Maids,” we closed the book on one mystery, now we have another. We the audience learned it was Opal, in love with Dahlia, who killed her during the confrontation on the bridge. Dahlia lashed out at Nicholas, saying she was going to tell everyone, and she claimed she claimed Opal was nothing more than a play thing and distraction. An enraged Opal pushed her off the bridge, but convinced Nick not to say anything because she knew he had killed someone in his past and would keep his secret. I guess this is what Dahlia was threatening to tell everyone. So who did Nick kill? And will anyone other than Opal’s creepy son realize who ran down Nick? Obviously with the new mystery, and Marisol marrying Nick, they aren’t killing him off in surgery as they’ve teased.
We still have no idea why Ethan is robbing all these houses, aside from his mother is crazy so he likely is too. It seems Spence’s nephew is also crazy and obsessed with Carmen. From the previews for next week he convinces Ethan to hit Spence’s big party for his 20 year anniversary on his soap. I have a feeling Carmen fill finally recognize Ty and start putting things together.
The Adrian and Evelyn game is just odd. I did feel so bad for Adrian this week when he saw Evelyn having sex with Tony. Then again he had been doing that to her for years. Payback is a bitch!
Genevieve learned that her kidneys are failing her. Killing off Miss Susan Lucci? Oh hell no! I bet Zoila will end up donating a kidney, or perhaps they’ll see this as a way to bring her brother back in that Zoila used to crush on. Then again I really like Zoila and Pablo.
The one story that has started to bore me is Rosie and Reggie the schemer. So he’s after his uncle’s fortune. Yawn. I think Miguel is going to be the one to put it all together and speak up, since nobody thinks he can speak english and clearly just says anything and everything around him.
This post has my quick thoughts on a lot of the shows from the past week (or two). Some are on the finales, others are on the near finales or mid-season finales.
Bates Motel
Bates will be back for a third season, I just hope it’s more interesting than this season was. The drug war going on was just boring as hell. With the way the season ended, and the heads of the drug families all ending up dead, hopefully the storyline is too. The reveal of Dylan’s parentage was good, and long overdue. The end of the season finally set up Norman as the lying sociopath we know from the movies. He passed a lie detector test because he truly believes he didn’t kill his teacher, that his imagined mother did. Creepiness! I’ll actually feel bad when the time comes for him to kill his mother.
Castle
In the finale few episodes “Castle” gave us great joy and great sorrow. After many seasons Kate finally nabbed her mother’s killer and put him away. It was about damn time, because if that dragged on another season I was going to lose my mind. As Kate and Castle prepared for their wedding, it was spoiled when someone mysterious ran Castle off the road. Kate found his car in flames in a ditch. Now we know Castle isn’t dead, the show is coming back. However if they pull some kind of amnesia storyline on us, I will be fuming. I want my wedding dammit! The “Castle” season finale . . .
Dallas
Dallas will be back late this summer to finish its season out, but what a ride the first half was. The mid-season finale was a roller coaster. Pamela finally learned about John-Ross and Emma, pretended like she wanted a threesome, but then spazzed out and we learned she had downed a bottle of pills. Now we know she’s not gunna die, she’s in the teasers for when it comes back. Why do they do these things to us? Meanwhile Elena started to wise up about her plot with Joaquin, but it was too little, too late. Joaquin is obsessed with her and poked holes in her diaphragm, then they made love. Meanwhile Elana’s brother Drew knows the truth and is out for revenge too. I still say there is something about that land deal we don’t know yet and it will leave Elena with egg on her face. Finally Christopher’s new girlfriend’s ex went and burned down Southfork, with a drunk Sue Ellen stuck inside. Bobby and John-Ross ran in to save her as the place started to come down around them. Oh boy!
Drop Dead Diva
Drop Dead Diva isn’t over yet, but we are getting close to the end. This time it really is going to be the finale, so they better to it right. However as of now I’m so angry that I don’t know if I want to stick around. Oh I will of course, but I’m that angry! After all this time they go and kill off Grayson? Are you kidding me? The only good thing from the previews is that he ends up meeting Fred in heaven and says he needs to get back to Jane. I have been hoping Fred would be back somehow. But if Grayson returns, it obviously will have to be in someone else’s body . . . but whose? Oh “Drop Dead Diva” . . .
Glee
I wasn’t a big fan of “Glee’s” finale either mind you. Just when everyone was getting settled into New York, everyone is now off for different places in the country as we head into the final season. Hate it! Oh and I really just want to grab Rachel and shake the crap out of her. After 5 seasons of having to hear her dream about being on Broadway, she finally gets her dream and after a weeks worth of shows is ready to move on to something else. Are you kidding me?
Grey’s Anatomy
I was waiting during the entire finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” for someone to die, and nobody did! I guess that was Shonda’s shock for the finale? There were other issues. Cristina finally left, and took her side-kick intern with her. Good riddance! I’m still angry it never came out what he did to Heather Brooks. Derrick and Meredith are fighting like cats and dogs over their jobs, and Meredith finally took a stand and told him off. Good for her, but bad for their marriage. Neither is going anywhere though, so we know they’ll work it out. It also looks like Amelia may become a permanent fixture next season. Yay! Poor Bailey though! She thought she had it all, back as head of ER surgery and was going to fill Cristina’s vacant board seat, until Alex learned Cristina left it to him. Noooooooo! Stop beating down my Bailey! The real shocker was the reveal of yet another Grey. A young girl, whom I think took over for Cristina, revealed to The Chief that she had recently found out her mother was Ellis Grey, but had given her up for adoption. That is why she wanted to come work here. Oh yeah, the girl is clearly half African-American, and The Chief knew exactly what that meant! Congrats dude, it’s a girl!
Grimm
I hate to beat a dead horse, but I’m still annoyed we never went anywhere with Nick’s mysterious illness at the beginning of the season. The finale saw Adeline use her latest potion to strip Nick of his powers. The potion he had to drink to restore them, which came from what little liquid was left from her spell, ended up being dropped and broken. It took ten minutes for that to happen, and you knew it was going to happen somehow. Nick seems to be SOL right about now. They left it as if it could be a blessing, that now Nick and Juliette could be happy. Pahleese! Even without his powers, he knows too much and will be a target. He just has to get his powers back, and it will likely take half of next season to do that. Meanwhile as he was investigating poor Renard’s shooting at Nick’s house, Wu found Nick’s Grimm book! He knows he isn’t crazy now. Oh and as for Captain Sexy Pants, he totally can’t die! He has to come back! It’s just like Nick no longer being a Grimm, it just can’t happen.
Nashville
I’m so happy that “Nashville” is coming back next year and for a full season. I thought the finale was really well done. Poor Juliette’s world crumbled around her as Jeff was blackmailing her. Rayna refused to let her go and promised they’d screw Jeff, while Avery learned the truth from Gunnar about Jeff and Juliette’s night of yuck. She begged him not to leave her, and that he was the only man she’s ever really loved, and blah blah blah. Juliette really makes it hard to feel sorry for her most of the time. Elsewhere, Will’s struggle with his sexuality came to a head as he finally told his wife, in the “privacy” of their bedroom, that he was gay. She looked shocked, but neither of them realize the reality show in fact hid a camera in their bedroom. Wow that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen! I still don’t know if Layla was totally clueless or not. Something makes me think she won’t let Will go, she will use him to get to the top and he’ll keep using her as a beard. Finally Luke proposed to Rayna, who accepted, only to have Deacon show up at her house and give her her engagement ring back and told her that he wanted her back too. What will Rayna do ?!?!?! We know in the end she’ll end up with Deacon, but I do like me some Luke. “Nashville’s” season finale . . .
Comments Off on Various Thoughts On Season Finales/Almost-Finales
Below are some of the final episodes for “Drop Dead Diva,” which is set to end for real at the end of this season. The season finale few episodes haven’t yet been revealed.
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES – April 27th
Pregnant Stacy is concerned when someone suggests her frequent burping is a sign she’s having an evil baby. Grayson and Jane are paired together on a case involving national security, but are flummoxed when they’re given very little information about their mild mannered client or her charges. Kim represents a family of orphans when their adoptive parents kick them out immediately after home make over show renovations.
SISTER ACT – May 4th
After Jane and Grayson spend the night together, she lets the “L” word slip and immediately wishes she could take it back. Owen defends the mayor of Malibu when she’s reprimanded for donating her entire government building to students who lost their school in a fire. IDENTITY CRISIS – May 11th

HOPE AND GLORY – May 18th
Grayson’s near death experience prompts him to make a serious gesture. Jane offers her services to a community drastically affected by pungent fumes wafting from a popular hot sauce factory. Kim is cornered into representing her mother in an unusual divorce proceeding against her own father.
Comments Off on Drop Dead Diva: Final Season Spoilers
So I am all caught up on “Drop Dead Diva,” and I’m having a very very bad feeling about this final season. More on that in a few.
First up, after years Grayson finally knows the truth about Jane/Deb, and it did not initially go over well. He was really angry with her, but also on some level relieved as he thought it so many season’s ago. When he asked why she didn’t tell him, she claimed she was afraid he couldn’t love her in her new body. Grayson was angry that she thought so little of him. This part angered me too. While we know that was always a concern of hers, she wanted to tell him and it was Fred who told her she couldn’t. The few times she tried, everything in the universe went wrong as if it was cosmic signs.
Kim was gone for the first two episodes on maternity leave, but returned in the latest one thanks to Jane’s scheming to get her back and her nasty replacement gone. I hope that at some point we will see the return of Parker before the show ends. I however am thinking Kim’s future lies closer to home . . .
We learned Owen has a no-good brother in the premier episodes, it’s the guy from Lifetime’s “Client List.” Yeah I totally missed the announcement that show was canceled. Bummer, I loved it! Oh and they left us hanging. Back to the brother, he and Stacy started seeing each other, but things fizzled fast. I’m sure he’ll be back at some point.
Jane and Grayson are trying to make things work. They are taking it slow and going to date each other. He wants to get to know the new her. Really, he’s been working for her for several years now. I think he knows her! However things between them just seem awkward, and it’s not giving me a good feeling.
I’m really thinking that Jane will end up with Owen, and Grayson will end up with Kim. I also hope Fred returns for Stacy somehow. Yeah, I have a feeling we won’t get a Jane and Grayson happily ever after ending.
So normally if the show doesn’t manage to advance any of the stories, I at least like the cases on the show. This wasn’t one of those times. The cases were boring a sin, but fortunately the storylines got advanced.
An attempt of a clients life via a gunshot sent Grayson running into Jane’s office to check on her. It’s clear he still has feelings for her, but his new girlfriend is too blind to notice and too wrapped up in a romantic getaway they are taking.
The gunshot also seemed to force a reconciliation between Stacey and Jane, and even Owen and Jane seemed to put their relationship to rest when he expressed how glad he was that she was okay.
Now let’s get this Jane and Grayson storyline on the fast track!
Spoilers for the final two episodes below!
.
.
.
Guess Who’s Coming – October 27th
Jane represents Deb’s mother in a case involving sex solicitation. Owen sends Grayson on a field trip to Wyoming. Stacy is humiliated at a yoga class.
Jane’s Secret is Revealed – SEASON FINALE – November 3
Jane offers to represent an Amish farmer in a life or death legal case against a big oil company. Grayson helps a dominatrix try to collect a debt from one of her clients. When Grayson and Jane finally reveal their feelings for each other, they’re interrupted by a visitor who threatens to reveal everything.
Guest Stars: Faith Prince (Elaine Bingum), Natalie Hall (Brittney), Doug Savant (Jakob Yordy), Rebecca Mader (Robin Lowry), Tom Nowicki (Geoff Hensley), Nancy Grace (Herself), Jon Michael Davis (Tripp Osgood), Kenny Alfonso (Joe Cummings), Nico Evers-Swindell (Zack Trent), Barrett Carnahan (Isaac Yordy), Gregalan Williams (Judge Warren Libby).
Comments Off on Drop Dead Diva: Season Finale Spoilers + Thoughts
First, I was really glad to see Jane finally make partner in the firm. After all these years, I think it was long over due. With that said, that’s about the only thing I’ve liked with the past two new episodes, aside from the court stories/cases.
This relationship between Stacy and Owen is just silly. Bring back Fred for Stacy. I don’t want to see Owen alone mind you, but he chose not to forgive Jane and move on. I wish Jane would have told Stacy it wasn’t okay to get knocked up with Owen’s kid, that she should find someone else. Actually the idea of Stacy suddenly wanting to be a mom also annoyed me.
The Grayson and Jane story needs to pick up. If we are left with another cliff-hanger and they don’t bring the show back, I will be really upset. The previews show a gunshot in the office, I’m hoping that will make Jane and Grayson both come to their senses.

Lifetime’s critically-acclaimed series Drop Dead Diva returns this fall with five all-new episodes, beginning Sunday, October 6, at 9:00pm ET/PT. Starring Brooke Elliott and Emmy® Award nominee Margaret Cho, the series welcomes Emmy nominated actress Illeana Douglas (Six Feet Under), SAG Award® winner Peri Gilpin (Frasier), SAG nominee Richard Kind (Spin City), Jaleel White (Family Matters), Doug Savant (Desperate Housewives) and Rebecca Mader (Lost) to its guest star roster. Immediately following Drop Dead Diva’s fall premiere, Lifetime will debut its new drama Witches of East End at 10:00pm ET/PT.
Picking up on this summer’s mid-season finale, Jane (Elliott) defends a former socialite, but her tactics put the firm in financial jeopardy and threatens its very existence. Meanwhile, Owen (Medlin) and Stacy (Bowlby) explore impending parenthood after Owen agrees to be her sperm donor. As the season continues, Grayson’s (Hurst) relationship with Nicole (Ilonzeh) develops further as Paul (Deeley) makes a play to convince Jane to move on and begin dating again. And Teri (Cho), Jane’s faithful assistant, continues to shine while helping her with both work and her ever-complicated personal endeavors.

In addition, the series’ summer mid-season finale, which originally aired on August 11, is now available for free on iTunes to allow Drop Dead Diva fans to catch up on the program in advance of its October 6 return.
So “Drop Dead Diva” left us with a cliffhanger and it doesn’t come back until October 6th! This explains why there were no more spoilers after tonight’s episode. Jane, with some pushing from Stacey, finally realized it was Grayson that she loved and that she should tell him. However she she went to do so, she found him holding hands and kissing Nicole. She of course walked away . . . Elsewhere Kim finally had her baby, Stacey and Owen attempted to get pregnant (via donation and implantation) and Owen and Kim found out that Parker is planning to sell the firm.
So first off, smack my head about this Jane and Grayson crapola! Smack Grayson upside the head just because . . . I mean he’s known this Nicole for what, 2 weeks and suddenly they are discussing whether the other wants kids. Hello, moving a little fast! I was at least relieved she didn’t tell him she was pregnant, as that’s what I thought she was going to say after she asked him about wanting kids. I can’t even wrap my brain around this whole Stacey getting pregnant storyline. Finally, can Parker sell the firm? It is called Harrison-Parker, and he did make Kim a Senior partner when he left . . . WTH? Where is Harrison? I’m sure this was explained in another season and I’m just forgetting. But didn’t Owen buy into the firm when he joined?
Drop Dead Diva returns on October 6th . . . below is a preview.
Over to “Devious Maids,” Rosie managed to eventually get her hands on the hidden DVD that they had been searching for involving Flora and the man she was blackmailing (Michael). That was the major thing that moved the plot forward. She managed to break into the safe and get it out, but so far we haven’t seen her escape the house with it . . . Meanwhile Evelyn is way too consumed with Peri and Spence’s baby, which is how Rosie has been distracting her in order to find the DVD. That is going to eventually end badly. I forsee a kidnapping!
Elsewhere, Carmen and Odessa continued their journey towards being friends. Carmen learned Odessa had cancer. We learned she used to be a ballerina until cancer in her leg resulted in an amputation. It seems the cancer has now returned.
The family Marisol “works” for is trying to get pregnant, but the wife Taylor seems to have problem conceiving and went to a fertility clinic. If her husband did knock Flora up, we know the problem isn’t with him.
Finally Genevieve returned home with a blind 76 year old billionaire who she convinced to marry her. She also convinced him that she was 39 and would have his baby. The truth eventually slipped out, and he was set to leave her. We learned she really did love the guy, and he agreed to stay with her. However they would have a child, through science, and they’d use a surrogate and an egg donor. He had already decided that he wanted to use Valentina . . . Oh hell no! Mama is not gunna allow that, though I bet Valentina will see it as a ticket out of brokesville.

Drop Dead Devious Maids Sunday: Keeping Secrets and Jane’s SOL!
Posted by Dustin on 08.05.2013 at 8:03 pm
So on “Drop Dead Diva” Jane is now without any man it seems. WTF !?!?!? Stacey asked Owen to be her donor, but he said no. Jane was upset, as Stacey didn’t even think that if she and Owen got back together it would be awkward. Jane however thought about it and talked to Owen. She felt he said no because there could be a chance for them, but if there is no chance then he should say yes to Stacey as she knows it’s something Owen would otherwise probably do. Meanwhile Kim gave Grayson some advice about mixing relationships and work . . . if this thing with Nicole is just a fling then end it before it ends badly. Grayson did end the “fling” aspect and asked her out on a real date. Finally Stacey returned to Jane by the end of the show with the news that Owen changed his mind and said yes! Poor Jane, now she’s lost BOTH guys!
Over on “Devious Maids,” Rosie learned who Marisol really was, she’s Marisol Suarez, a Professor of English, author and award winner all around. Rosie was furious with her and wanted to expose her, but by the end of the show came to understand why she was doing what she was doing as she to would do anything for her son. Rosie promised to keep her secret and asked how she could help? Rosie then went to the crazy Powels to apply to be their new part-time maid!
I totally loved the nod to “Ugly Betty” with her last name. But again, after this season’s mystery, what will happen? Marisol clearly is not going to stay a maid. I’m assuming she will end up employing one of them though. I’m guessing it will be Rosie, and she’ll help her get her son over to America.
