Dirty Sexy Money Series Finale
Posted by Dustin on 08.10.2009 at 8:27 pm
So this weekend was the “Dirty Sexy Money” finale. I loved this show, but I hated the way things were left. For those who missed it, you can catch it online at ABC.com. I’ll quickly summarize what happened.
Nola headed to China to rescue her brother after Simon was stabbed and stuck recuperating at the Darlings. She told Jeremy, who proposed, that she wasn’t coming back. Jeremy ended up going to Vegas with some girl (who I think just worked for Tripp, I don’t know who she was) and they got married. When Nola had a change of heart and returned to be with him, oops too late!
Patrick ended up in a love triangle with a gay senator and his wife. Well the husband liked Patrick, while he liked the wife and was determined to be with her, even though the senetor demanded he stop seeing his wife. Patrick promised her that he would do what it took for them to be together.
Lisa signed a deal to write a tell-all book about the Darlings, which infuriated Nick. She tried to win him back, and when Karen saw her kiss him, she got upset and fell down the steps, losing Simon’s baby. Nick however chose her, telling Lisa it was too late for them, and he wanted to be with Karen.
Brian remolded Nick’s apartment with Letitia’s help. He was living with Nick as the wife kicked him out after it seemed Brian slept with his ex-wife while on a business trip (I don’t think he did, but I’m not sure).
The big shocker was when Simon spilled the beans to Nick, assuring him he was not the bad guy here, and he was being controlled. He began to tell Nick everything, how this all began. He was a student of Nola’s father, and it was her father that came up with the bio-fuel. The father wanted to share it with Simon, going into business 50/50. Simon got greedy and framed him for sedition, hid Nola’s little brother and used her to his advantage. However when Trip hired Dutch to dig up dirt on Simon, that’s when Dutch found out Simon stole the bio-fuel. Dutch was the one who was controlling Simon, he forced him to have Nola prosecute Letitia for his murder. Yup, Dutch is alive and out there somewhere!
And thus, this is how it ended and how we were left.
Infuriated doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling! I am at least happy we got confirmation that Dutch was alive, something many of us began to figure out. However to be left with some of those cliffhangers and never knowing how things will play out . . . Grr! I especially hated how things were left with Lisa feeling all high and mighty. They really turned her into a real . . . witch . . . and I could easily have seen her being knocked off in the third season.
I loved this show, it was one of my favorite shows of the past year. It was a great guilty pleasure. It was also a breath of fresh air from the million and one reality shows, Law and Orders and CSIs dominating the airwaves. However these days if the show doesn’t fit into a formula already existing, it seems its chances of surviving aren’t good. It makes me not wanna invest in new shows this fall, because everything I like never seems to survive!

Dirty Sexy Money Returns To Finish Out Season 2
Posted by Dustin on 06.29.2009 at 8:55 pm
Look for “Dirty Sexy Money” to return on July 18th with new episodes. First up will be “The Facts,” which was the never aired Thanksgiving episode that served mainly as a recap. This was also the episode that used old un-aired footage of Samaire Armstrong’s character to explain where Juliette disappeared to. ABC is airing it, I guess to remind fans what the show was about (since it’s been so long!). The following week is a new episode, “The Convertible.” If you want the spoiler details, keep reading . . .

No More Dirty Sexy Money Says Underwood
Posted by Dustin on 12.31.2008 at 12:46 pm
Despite the show having been officially canceled, and in spite of co-star Billy Baldwin’s (Patrick Darlin) public attempts to reach the masses to save the show, Blaire Underwood (Simon Elder) is saying the show is gone.
He (Underwood) tells E Online, “As far as I’m concerned, we’re not doing any more shows.
“ABC officially doesn’t want to use the C-word, canceled, but we’re not on the schedule. I would pretty much say we’re canceled.”

Billy Baldwin Tries To Save DSM
Posted by Dustin on 12.23.2008 at 11:14 am
Billy Baldwin, who plays Patrick Darling on “Dirty Sexy Money,” is doing everything he can to save the show it seems by getting the word out to the fans. I’ve seen a few articles and interviews with him popping up over the last month in which he asks the fans to write into ABC via the website to save the show.
“ ‘Dirty Sexy Money’ is not dead – yet,” Baldwin wrote in a mass e-mail. “It’s on life support, but not dead. ABC has canceled both ‘Eli Stone’ and ‘Pushing Daisies,’ but they have not officially used the term ‘canceled’ – as it relates to ‘DSM.’ ”
As with “Lipstick Jungle” and as of last month “Swingtown,” (though with one of the leads in a new pilot it might not look good for “Swingtown”) ABC has not torn down the sets and still have the actors on a contract option. It’s possible according to Baldwin if the mid-season shows coming up are bombs, “DSM” could be given another go.
A petition has been set up to save the show at http://petitiononline.com/dsm123/petition.html

Dirty Sexy Money: RIP Carmelitta
Posted by Dustin on 12.22.2008 at 3:26 pm
On the last episode of “Dirty Sexy Money,” which might actually be the last new episode, we found ourselves a month after Patrick’s inauguration and the shooting. Mini-cap and thoughts follow.
No surprise, we all guessed it, Carmelita was shot and killed. She basically had to die, or it would have been Patrick’s career that was dead. I’m still sad to see her go. She was probably the only thing interesting about Patrick’s storyline.
Chase fell into a coma and was never expected to regain consciousnesses. He had a living will, but his wife was fighting it. Of course Tripp and Simon both had their reasons to see the plug pulled on Chase. Tripp Nick up to challenging the wife legally on behalf of the hospital wanting to honor Chase’s wishes. Meanwhile Simon put Nola up to going and pulling the plug. In the end Chase died on his own in his sleep.
Jeremy hit his head at the inauguration and ended up with amnesia. However by the end of the episode we learned he really didn’t have amnesia, he was faking it so that Nola wouldn’t get in trouble with Simon over telling him about her brother. He also thought he could fly under the radar this way and help her get her brother back. I have to admit that was one twist I didn’t see coming, nd I’m usually good about spotting them. I’m still confused as to how and why Simon’s holding her brother. She mentioned Simon helped her family out once, I guess she has to repay the debt?
The church held some big “meet the reverend” night for Brian, which annoyed him as he felt they only wanted to dip into his families pocket books. He found out that a donation came in for 1.6 mil to fix the church’s organ right after he announced his return to the church. He didn’t tell Andrea about the whole shindig and became distant. She felt he wanted out of their marriage, that he married her when he thought she was dying and now she wasn’t. He said he wanted out, but thankfully later recanted. Whew! Love these two and want them to have their happily ever after. Brian told her that she was the only one in his life who wanted him for him, not his money or family, and it scared him. I didn’t see this explanation coming actually. I thought maybe he was pushing her away as some weird way of honoring the pact he made with God the week earlier, that if he saved Andrea he would return to the church.
Nick wanted joint custody of Kiki, but Lisa wasn’t sure he had the time to take care of her with all the Darlings he had to look after. She left him with Kiki for a weekend trial, which of course he screwed up. When he had to take care of things he left her with Letitia, but Karen got a hold of her. She wanted to prove to Nick, who she’s back to crushing on, that she could take care of Kiki and be responsible. In the end Nick was impressed, Lisa was not. She was furious and planned to sue Nick for sole custody of Kiki. Gotta say I’m really loathing Lisa lately. I started out this season wanting their marriage to work, but now I want her to just go away. Nick and Karen forever!
Finally the show ended leaving us with a possible answer to a question many of us have been wondering . . . is Dutch alive? The donation to the church to fix the organ came with a plaque that said something along the lines of “In honor of my son.” Brian thought it was from Tripp, but Nick told him it wasn’t, that he would have known if Tripp made this donation. That left one person . . . Dutch! It would seem Dutch is possibly alive after all. If so, where the hell did he get that kind of cash?
Dirty Sexy Money: The Shooting
Posted by Dustin on 12.11.2008 at 9:13 pm
Last night’s “Dirty Sexy Money” seemed a tad slow to me, up until the end which was really good. First a quick recap then some thoughts.
Andrea continued to get worse, and she made Brian face the fact that she was dying. He ran into his old Bishop, who reminded him that his 5 month retreat to make his decision about his future with the church was about up. Brian went to the church and demanded God basically prove himself, prove why he should come back by saving Andrea. When he returned to the hospital he learned Andrea had taken a miraculous turn for the better. Brian decided not only to go back to the church, but to aim for the top job . . . the Bishop’s!
Jeremy had a talk with his mom and Karen about Nola and her actions lately. They said it sounds like she’s seeing someone else and he should move on. He spied on her only to find out she was meeting with Simon. He confronted her, demanding answers. She couldn’t tell him the truth, so he threatened to tell Patrick. She finally said that Simon was holding her little brother, so she was meeting with him from time to time, she couldn’t say more. Jeremy promised to help her, trying to go to Nick, but only tipping Simon off. Simon wasn’t happy with Nola at all, basically giving her a last warning to keep her mouth shut.
Patrick’s official swearing in to the senate was this week, and he planned to invite Carmelita and reveal her to all. Tripp and Nick thought this was a bad idea, but Patrick schemed to do it anyways.
Meanwhile Ellen’s brother Chase returned and the Darlings schemed to have him put away for 72 hours psych observation. He was hauled off as Nick was trying to calm him down, which infuriated Chase and made him feel that Nick was worse than the Darlings and that he had set him up.
Karen decided to make nice with Nick and headed to his apartment. She was taken hostage by Chase, who escaped his police escort and took a gun and uniform! He knocked Karen out and then went to the swearing in. Karen came too long enough to call Nick and try and warn him.
Nick figured out something was wrong, just as Tripp got news that Chase escaped. Nick realized he was here, they had to shut things down. Chase was in the crowd dressed as a cop and opened fired as the show came to a close. Jeremy was knocked down, hitting his head. Nick tried to tackle Chase, but Chase shot and hit someone . . . . but who?
My Thoughts
Brian got his miracle he demanded God give him. It was a very disturbing yet sad scene with Brian in the church. I realized Brian was angry though and lashing out as he was facing losing Andrea. The “miracle,” whether of medicine or God brought him back to the church, but now he’s going for the top job it seems. I’ve honestly been enjoying him more working and being part of the Darlings. Before he felt so off and disconnected, which obviously was the point. Hopefully that won’t happen this time.
Frankly I know it’s stereotyping and type casting, but I’m so ready for Lucy Lui to pull some Charlie’s Angel Kung Foo moves and kick Simon Elder’s ass to kingdom come! He’s still sitting way to pretty frankly and needs to be knocked some more pegs. I want to see Lucy/Nola save herself and her brother, not have Jeremy or Nick do it.
Finally who was shot at the swearing in? I don’t know why but I’m getting a bad feeling it was Carmelita. Patrick was ready to reveal her, so she’s gotta go basically or his career will be toast.
