Once Upon A Time: Whose Afraid Of The Big Bad Ruby
Let’s just start off with the fact that I think that this week’s episode was absolutely pointless. I could have seen this as a filler episode somewhere else in the season. However not during November Sweeps, and not when there only a few new episodes of the shows left before they go off for the holiday season and return next year.
The entire show, save for the final seconds, basically dealt with Ruby/Red. In the past, Red basically met a pack of wolf shape shifters that called themselves “Children of the Moon.” Their leader was her mother, who Red thought was dead. Turns out Granny kidnapped her from her mother. While Granny wanted Red to embrace her human side, her mom wanted her to embrace the wolf. The mom ended up dying by Red’s hand, accidentally. The mom was going to kill Snow, who they captured, because Red refused to. Red was only trying to save Snow.
In Storybrook, the dwarfs had found diamonds in the mine. These could be ground into fairy dust, and with what was left of Jefferson’s hat could hopefully open a portal. Meanwhile it was the first full moon since the curse was broken, and Ruby was afraid she’d turn. It had been so long, she didn’t think she could control it anymore and may hurt someone. She did turn, and a guy named Gus ended up dead.
Okay back the truck up . . . if Ruby can now turn into a wolf again . . . why hasn’t anyone else in town turned back to what they were in Fairytale land? I’m just saying!
As it turned out, Ruby didn’t kill the guy. The king (Charles?) did, and he did so to try and make the people lose faith in David/Charming as their leader. The kind had one final trick up his sleeve. While David was busy trying to calm Ruby the Wolf down, the king managed to steal Jefferson’s hat and burned it. He laughed that now David would never get his family back!
Not so fast! The final moments had Aurora in current fairytale land having another nightmare. In this one she saw a little boy, Henry. Henry also saw her and talked to her. When Aurora woke up, she told her dream to Emma and Snow. So it seems a way across still exists somehow.
