666 Park Avenue: The Birds!

666 Park Avenue: The Birds!

The second episode of “666” was very much a throwback to “The Birds,” even conjuring up a reference to the movie and Tippi Hedren. Jane learned that a huge nest of starlings (sp?) had taken up residence in the walls. She was moving to have them exterminated, which Gavin learned of and did NOT seem to like. The exterminator who tried to kill them met with a violent end, and Gavin eventually told Jane to leave them . . . they weren’t bothering anyone and this was there home too. What is their significance? He also suggested she fix the mess in the basement . . . She went down to see that the exterminator she had hired had tore down the wall and revealing the strange door that Jane keeps dreaming about. The door seems to show her things, so of course she entered in. She found herself trapped as the show ended. It definitely felt like Gavin was sending her right into a trap.

Meanwhile the one woman who sneaks around the building and is apparently the thief everyone is looking for appears to be psychic? The things she takes give her visions. In this episode she stole the exterminator’s keys and got a vision of his death. Hmmmmmm . . .

Henry learned that a building Gavin was bidding on was basically a toxic dump and useless, but he couldn’t tell Gavin this as it would compromise his job. At the same time he worried if he didn’t, Gavin would kick them out. In the end Henry said nothing. Gavin bought the building, but in the end flipped it before the news broke about it’s value due to the toxic waste one site . . . Henry felt bad, but Gavin told him he was a man of integrity and he liked that. Gavin later told Olivia that Henry passed his little test, and he may just be the hero they need. What was that about? Do they want Henry to rescue them from The Drake? Or is this something worse? I’m thinking something along the lines of”Rosemary’s Baby” meets “The Wicker Man” here.

Brian (the writer) continued his weird affair with the woman in the building across the way, while his wife Louise (the photographer/artist) was released from the hospital. Gavin paid them off to the tune of 300 grand as a “please don’t sue me” gesture. I have yet to figure out how they fit into this story at all . . . I do kinda think that woman is dead though (reminiscent of “The Shining”).

Jane got clues from her dreams, as well as mysterious papers left for her, about a murder at The Drake in the 50s. It was in the apartment of a new friend they made, Danielle. We basically learned that this woman Danielle has been living at the building for decades. She’s really an old lady, but through Gavin’s powers she remains young. The price is that she seems to repeat history, constantly falling in love with the wrong men and killing them. It seems though that Gavin sets her up with these men so she can do away with them. He then removes all her memories and starts her on a new life? He’s clearly using her, as he is others in the building, to exterminate his enemies. But for what purpose? What is he after?

The mystery shall continue! Frankly I’m loving the show, so I hope it sticks around.

  1. For some reason, I kept thinking the birds were souls trapped in the building. I guess because the tenant in that apartment was sucked into the wall.
As for Danielle, it seems that Gavin hoped she would kill that guy so maybe that is her purpose? Doing away with some people so there are not constant accidents or suicides?
