Grey’s Anatomy Season Finale!
SPOILERS for WEST COASTERS ! ! !
The show began where we left of last week, with the plane crashing carrying Mark, Lexie, Christina, Meredith, Arizona and Derek. Derek was thrown from the plane, and was caught in wreckage alone. He had to break his hand to get free. It was fairly nasty as he took a rock and literally was smashing it.
Lexie was pinned under part of the plane and slowly dying. She knew there was nothing to be done for her. Mark professed his love to her, saying she couldn’t die, they would get married. However . . . Lexie died! Yes, for real! They killed off Lexie!
Meredith and Christina went looking for Derek, who they found. They had to tend to his hand, cleaning it as best then could and setting it.
Arizona was trying to help the pilot, who was stuck in the cockpit and couldn’t feel his legs.
Mark eventually passed out, and Christina discovered he was bleeding internally. It was some kind of heart wound. Christina had to perform surgery in the woods with no anesthesia!
Everyone had to bunk in for the night. Their flare gun wasn’t working, and the transmitter got damaged in the crash . . . so the pilot said nobody would be able to find them. Christina did her best to keep everyone awake, worried if they passed out some may fall into a coma.
Back at the hospital, Bailey was upset because Ben was moving (again?) and they would have to be long distance. He applied for an internship at another hospital. They had just gotten engaged, as Baily proposed. Baily laid into for making decisions without consulting her. He was not a single man anymore, they were an us now!
April was preparing to leave as not only did she fail, but Hunt couldn’t hire her back next year as she’s not the best person for the job. April was in limbo, she doesn’t know who she is anymore. She also was struggling with sleeping with Jackson, and now she’s not a virgin for the man she will marry. Jackson decided to take the job in Tulane, while Karev was planning to go to John’s Hopkins.
Teddy turned down a great job offer, which infuriated Hunt. Teddy claimed she wasn’t leaving because of her loyalty to him, and the fact that this is where her husband died. She finally admitted she had treated him unfairly, but he was still her best friend. She did not want to leave him while he was already possibly losing his wife. Hunt later fired her to force her to go. He said he didn’t want her here anymore, she has been hostile and disruptive, the board has been notified and it’s a done deal. However that was just the excuse Hunt gave, he just wanted her to take the better job.
The Chief was looking forward to making a dinner for his residents, but none of them really wanted to go. They eventually did. However he didn’t want to start until the others showed up . . . but of course they never did.
By the end of the show, the gang were still stuck in the woods, while Hunt received news that their surgeons never arrived at the hospital they were supposed to be going to . . .
My thoughts . . .
Holy fricken crap! Are you kidding me? What I don’t get is that Shonda wrote this before she knew the fate of the originals, including Meredith/Ellen. She had always said there would always be a Grey on the show, which could become Lexie if Meredith/Ellen ever left the show. So if Meredith/Ellen had left . . . what would the show have done? NUTS! I believe there is still one more sister out there also in medical school?
I’m guessing Derek’s hand was his way out if needed. He’s going to need a lot of therapy and surgeries to perform surgery again, let alone have a working hand.
I’m really pissed that April failed her boards. I was hoping there would be a way to magically undo this, or something was wrong. This is too much like George failing his exams. Why do I want to watch her not move on with her classmates? Annoying!
I’m stunned that Hunt fired Teddy! What the hell! I wasn’t expecting her to leave. It’s like the show just cleaned house in this episode. How are they going to suddenly keep all these people next season?
Leaving them stranded in the woods by the end was the worst too. How long does it take to figure out a plane crashed! That it disappeared from radar. These planes are tracked!
Here are my thoughts….
1. Arizona will still die. Her contract is still up in the air. If Arizona dies that will mean Alex can stay and take over Peds.
2. With Lexie dead (big mistake) that leaves room for Owen to hire April back so she can take her boards again next year (what would have been Lexie’s year anyway)
3. Owen fired Teddy for 100% the wrong reasons (or so he told her). He should have just said I am going to fire you so I can get my wife to stay on as head of cardio!! I mean Teddy basically said she did everything short of offering Christina her job. I guess Owen thought that was a good idea and did it for her. (There goodbye was really sweet though!!!)
4. As far as I know still hasn’t Eric/Mark still hasn’t resigned either. This leaves room for Avery to stay in Seattle with Kempner (because as much as I can’t stand her he is sooo in love)
5. If both Mark and Arizona die Callie will be permanently broken!!!!
6. Did anyone else notice the “chimes”. I felt like Christina kept hearing them and looking up. I also thought I heard them when Owen was pacing the room after firing Teddy.
7. Where was Zola. I know she was with Kempner but who did she hand her off too? Maybe if they don’t hire her back she can be Zola’s nanny 🙂
8. Don’t you think if the docs never showed up that The hospital would call SEATTLE and not just Owens phone??
And 9…. I am really glad Christina found her shoe!!!!!

I didn’t even watch the whole episode after I found out Lexie died, I was too ticked off, as time goes on I hate her writing more and more, and I hate her statement about how upset she is over it, then don’t do it, don’t pile on this bull crap about how unhappy you are about it when you wrote it, she’s lost me for pp and I’m pretty sure unless they pull out a miracle and bring lexie back I”m done, I was waiting and waiting for Mark and her to finally find their way back, so I’m done

I figure about the same things as justwondering. Karev will fill in for arizona, meridith for derrik, april for lexie…and so on! And I agree about the phone call. And I call my hubby all the time…Callie never even tried?!?!

I’m with Renee, Lexie dying will leave the spot open for April’s ass to be saved. Jackson won’t go anywhere, and I see wedding bells for them (so April is OK with lying to Jesus or whatever, but, WEIRD!). I’ll miss Teddy, but, Lord knows she”l return to save Christina’s life somehow, come on, you all can see that coming, LOL! I also found it weird that for this insanely complicated surgery, no one showed up, and the only thing the other hospital did was leave voice mails for Owen. Really?!?!? That’s really my only complaint. We all knew we were doomed to have a happy ending ripped away at some point, and not just in TV but in life ESPECIALLY, happy endings are never guaranteed. Why is every one so mad? And Dustin, I’m a bit shocked that you would even consider the fact that there could be be no ‘Grey’ left on the show, clearly the episode was written so ANYONE could die and they just had to figure out who. Shonda did say that in an interview. Something along the lines of “I had no idea what I had to work with, so I had to write to accommodate ANYTHING……”. It’s OK though, I still think you’re awesome 😛

Yes I know she had to write outs for all the major characters whose contracts were up. However she’s said over and over there would always be a Grey on the show. When there was talk of Pompeo leaving, there was mentioned Lexie would be the “grey” of “Grey’s Anatomy.” So she kills Lexie off and didn’t know the fate of Pompeo . . . what would she have done 🙂

I do believe that there is another Grey sister out there. I remember Lexie or maybe it was their dad being at the hospital because that sister was having a baby. Even though it is nice thoughts, I don’t see how Alex or Christina or any of them could be head of any department seeing that they just finished their residencies, don’t they have to work a few years in a fellowship and then have to be an attending to become head??? Then again this is TV and not the real world, so maybe it would happen. I did love Christina’s comment on how she was sick of this always happening.

Did anyone check Lexie’s vitals. I think they pronounced her dead because she closed her eyes. Maybe she is in a deep coma from the shock.
Technically Zola is a Grey and a Shepard. So there could still be a Grey on the show if Merideth left.

Im glad others heard the chimes! I heard them and kept thinking it was a cell phone but no one was answering it and ignoring it. Anyone else have a thought that Meredith hit the back of her head and was maybe hallucinating? Or one the injured was actually unconscious and in surgery and none of that really happened? I kept thinking that but thought it would be super crappy of they pulled that card.
