Army Wives Season 6 Premier Thoughts!

Army Wives Season 6 Premier Thoughts!

Posted by Dustin on 03.05.2012 at 9:28 pm

So last night was the Season 6 premier of “Army Wives.” What went down? Well here are some bullet points to sum it up . . . .

  • A hurricane was headed toward Ft. Marshall, which was in the process of closing up. Everyone was supposed to be moving out, they had their new orders.
  • Michael learned he was being given a desk job at the pentagon. He decided to simply retire, letting Claudia Joy take her turn and pursue her career.
  • Roxy and Denise were both going to Ft. Hope, but Pamela and Claudia Joy were moving on elsewhere (Chase was absent from the episode).
  • Joan and Roland got the all clear, and their son’s adoption was formalized.
  • The hurricane hit, and wreaked major havoc.
  • Denise was seriously injured when a window in the hospital shattered on her face and blew her across the room. She ended up in a coma with brain injuries, and Frank was faced with transferring her to John Hopkins for better treatment.
  • Roxy drug her feet in cleaning her house, and selling the truck stop. Trever scolded her, but in the end it worked out for Roxy.
  • Ft. Hope was badly damaged, many people were killed, and ultimately the commanding general stepped down taking the blame for being ill prepared. The army changed it’s plans and closed Ft. Hope, and keeping Ft. Marshall open.
  • Michael was up for a possible promotion to a three star general. However Claudia Joy’s career once again took a backseat.
  • Pamela’s house did not weather the storm well, so she and the kids are staying with Roxy and Trevor. Tensions are already running high . . .
  • Denise imagined what life would have been like should Jeremy had lived. She played out the fantasy in her head, with them all growing old. It appeared Denise was going to live in this fantasy world forever, but at the very end woke up and came back to Frank.
  • No “Army Wife” was killed in the storm, or at least not one of the major cast members.

  • So my thoughts . . . .

I sat there wondering, worrying, through the two hours about who was going to die. Who would it be? Then nobody died! I guess on one hand I’m glad we didn’t lose a wife, but on the other it boils my blood when shows promote or tease the death of someone major . . . then they don’t follow through. I guess all they really said was “One wife won’t weather the storm” and we read too much into it.

All last season I expected Tonya to be pregnant. I guess Denise on some level hopes so too, as her fantasy world with Jeremy still alive hinted at them having kids. Perhaps Tonya will finally be revealed to be pregnant?

I felt horrible for poor Claudia Joy. Her career, her dreams, continue to take a back seat to Michael and the army.

I hope we get to see more of Finn’s dad this season! I really like him.

I don’t know what else to say? I love that my girls are back, and if this is the final season (as many expect) I will be sad. I guess the one story I’m really worried about them possibly doing this year is Michael’s David’s HIV status developing into full blown AIDS. I think it will destroy Joan!

    GCB – I Have Received! Pilot Thoughts . . . .

    GCB – I Have Received! Pilot Thoughts . . . .

Posted by Dustin on 03.04.2012 at 12:47 pm

As NBC has been doing with some of their new shows, ABC decided to put “GBC” out there in a few forms before the actual broadcast tonight. I couldn’t pass up a sneak peak now could I?

The show is about Amanda Vaughn (Leslie Bibb) who is a Dallas native, but moved away 18 years ago when she married her husband Jack. Jack however wasn’t a great guy, got caught in a huge ponzi scheme, tried to flee with his mistress, and drove off the road because he was . . . distracted. Amanda and her two kids are forced to return to Dallas when all her husbands assets are seized. They move in with Amanda’s estranged mother Gigi (played by Annie Potts). We soon learn that Amanda was a mean girl in highschool, and the four girls she tormented the most aren’t happy she’s back . . . but their husband’s are! While she was a mean girl, she was also the girl every guy wanted to date. In the pilot Amanda struggles to get back on her feet, while her main nemesis Carlene (Kristen Chenoweth) leads the pack of old girls against her every step of the way.

I really enjoyed this show. It felt very “Desperate Housewives” versus “Mean Girls.” I’ve loved Leslie Bibb since “Popular,” adore Kristen Chenoweth and Miriam Shore (who plays Cricket), but it was Annie Potts who stole the show I. She basically plays a combination of an amped up Mary Jo and Julia Sugarbaker – the Terminator from “Designing Women.”

I definitely wonder where the show will go story-line wise. One story twist was very easy to pick up on, and the reveal wasn’t so shocking. It was pretty funny though! That’s a secret Amanda still has in her pocket by the end of the pilot. Given she’s reformed, you get the sense she doesn’t plan on using it though. A few other twists and surprises I didn’t see coming and were nice endings to the pilot.

Of course the major issue I’m having is getting hooked on the show, and not having it succeed. Shows with underlying religious themes, or very blatant ones, tend to be the target for large boycots. In fact this show already is, before anyone has even seen it. One Million Mom’s has already come out with a campaign against it. The irony is while the church is a part of the show, it’s not the entire show. The show is more about exposing hypocrisy, not Christian hypocrisy per say, but the way many tend to live and judge. Those who throw the most stones tend to live in the biggest and shiniest glass houses.

More American Horror Story Season 2 Details!

More American Horror Story Season 2 Details!

Posted by Dustin on 03.03.2012 at 12:09 pm

More details on season 2 of “American Horror Story” emerged this weekend at the PaleyFest Television event.

We already knew that season 2 would be a new location, possibly some returning cast, but all playing new characters.

The location is said to be on the East Coast, set in an institution, and Ryan Murphy has teased they are trying to do something “historically accurate.”

There are just so many possibilities! “An institution” could be something like a prison, or a hospital . . . or it could be taken to mean something very meaningful to America in general. Jamestown? Williamsburg? Roanoke?

There was still the mysterious clue said to be given in one of the later episodes. Roanoke DID come up in the spell done to try and vanish the ghosts, but Jessica Lange’s character often talked of Virginia.

Given how in historical dramas seem to be now, I think it would be interesting for the show to not take place in the present. Some type of hospital would be creepy. A prison might be too similar to Murder House I think, with a bunch of crazed people/killers. I don’t want to see Roanoke done, as that mystery has been solved by science at this point.

The returning cast? Jessica Lange is back, and this time is the star of the show. Zachary Quinto be one of the main stars this time around as well.

Also returning are Evan Peters (Tate aka Rubber Man), Sarah Paulson (Jessica Lange’s psychic friend) and Lily Rabe (Nora, the original mistress of the house, the crazy doctor’s wife).

Oh . . . and the show WILL somehow answer what happened to Constance’s fourth child! They did mention early on she had four, but we only found out about three of them.

Awake: Did It Put You To Sleep?

Awake: Did It Put You To Sleep?

Posted by Dustin on 03.01.2012 at 9:12 pm

NBC’s new show “Awake” premiers tonight. As with “Smash,” I watched the premier earlier. If you haven’t seen the commercials, the show is about a detective (played by Jason Isaacs of “Harry Potter” fame) who is involved in a car crash with his son and wife in the car. Isaacs plays Michael, who in one world only his wife lived, and in the other only his son did. He alternates between them when he goes to sleep in one, and wakes up in the other. In both worlds he’s a detective, but has different partners. In both worlds he has two different psychiatrists who take a different approach to his “delusion” that there is another world. In both worlds there is a case to be solved as well.

I enjoyed the show. However with “Grimm” already on the same network, and what looks to be a few more paranormal pilots out there for next season, I’m wondering if this is going to quickly become the new it thing for every network to do. You know what I mean, “the medical shows,” then “the law shows,” then “the detective shows.” Is the market next year going to be saturated with these shows?

The show left some big questions, aside from the main one . . . “Is Michael making this up?” If he is, which world is in his mind? Or do both worlds exist, and is he really jumping between the two? Can his family be merged then? We don’t know how the car accident happened, but some hints were dropped in one of the worlds that he may have been drunk. I definitely enjoyed the twist with the cases in both worlds somehow being connected. It seems to be that Michael isn’t nuts, and there are two, connected worlds. Solving the case in one world is the key to solving it in the other world.

So did you watch? Did you enjoy it, or did it not keep you “Awake?”

Spoilers for the next episode to follow!
