So I was not all that enthralled by this weeks episodes of “Grey’s” and “Private Practice.” When they are on point, they are great. When they are off, they are usually dull. This week I felt for the most part, it was an off week. The later show is once again on my last nerve!
On “Grey’s” I did love the Ben and Bailey story, especially the end where he surprised her with a romantic dinner and was okay with the change of plans. You could see her insecurities from her previous marriage coming through, as her other husband never understood her schedule and need to be at work above all else.
We also got a bit more of the Mark and Lexie drama, as she hoped to try and have a nice evening with Mark and the kids (she was baby sitting Zola so Mer and Der could have an evening alone). But things didn’t work out, as when she showed up Avery was there too. Awkward!
Some progress was also made with Owen and Christina. Teddy blew up at Owen, saying she hated him for what he did, that they’d never be friends again, that she’d never forgive him. When she confided in Christina about this, using “we” instead of “I” . . . well it got things spinning in Christina’s head. I guess she didn’t want to be included in all things Teddy anymore! She was fighting with Owen about getting back on Teddy’s services in the beginning of the show. At the end she went to him to beg him not to hate her (as Teddy hates him). It was a good scene, but can their marriage be saved? It seems they just want too many different things and neither wants to compromise?
Over to “Practice,” Violet began to question/ponder her relationship with the hot paramedic and how it impacted Pete, who was upset because he had to work with this guy. Sheldon suggested she tell Pete it’s not a relationship, it’s sex . . . which is what Violet said it was. Pete however didn’t care what it was she was doing . . . the problem was he cared she was doing it. . . . What what what !?!?! So he can’t do it, but she can’t? Or was this Pete basically saying he still cared about her and maybe things weren’t over? Oh hell no! I can’t take this back and forth stuff!
Speaking of the back and forth stuff, Addison was there to comfort and help Sam as he reconnected with his long lost and mentally unstable sister. Sheldon was also trying to help diagnose her and get her on a proper course of meds. Addison’s definition of comfort and be there as a friend meant sex, and Sam didn’t mind. Jake however did and felt Addison needed to figure out what she wanted, then come see him. Oh hell no x2! Why can’t these people make a decision and stick with it. Why does Shonda seem to love Sam and Addison so much? Can’t we just break them up for good?
Here is hoping next week’s cross-over shows dealing with treating Erica’s tumor is a bit more interesting. Dare we hope she actually lives? These shows, after all, excel in killing people off just when we have hope they will survive.
The latest episode involved a Spinderella, a spider woman who shot venom into her victims mouths and then sucked their organs out through their stomachs. The women of the species need to kill ever so often, in order to stop from rapid aging. This one was married to a male, and they had a daughter. The man didn’t seem to be killing, but didn’t seem to be aging? I was confused there, or missed something. We met another one who like Monroe, had given up killing. Her name was Charlotte – get it? She had aged to a 60-70 year old, but was really only 26. She’s who helped Nick out with the case.
Overall the plot outside the crimes advanced a little. Nick is being found out by more and more of the creatures, their kids were egging his house in the episode. Nick was worried who it might get to in time, and next week it looks like that’s just what happens when he and Monroe are forced to cage fight for the bad guys entertainment. Monroe also asked Nick when he’d tell Juliette the truth about him, another little nudge with the storyline. I do hope this means we’ll return to all the plots laid out in the first two episodes we have yet to revisit.
I also kept wondering how long before Nick’s partner Hank figures something out. I mean how does Nick always end up on these weird cases, and why is he able to solve them so easily. Murder is one thing, these desecrated bodies . . . when is Hank going to start saying “This is just not normal!”
So another episode of “Parenthood” and a whole lot of baby drama!
Zoe seems to get more and more freaked out about the baby as it gets closer to arriving. She ended up quitting her job and moving out, moving in with some friends – so she said. She seemed to be calling Julia from an alley with a whole lot of BS if you ask me. It makes me wonder what she’s really doing? Joel eventually confronted her saying he had to know if she was changing her mind. She claimed she wasn’t . . . but I didn’t buy that either. I just don’t think these two are getting this kid . . . I never have really.
Dr. Joe was house shopping and dropped a bomb on Jasmine, asking her to move in with him. She didn’t know what to say. She discussed it with Crosby, but said this was not about asking his permission. In the end he told her that perhaps it would be good for her. He also gave her a housewarming present, a doorknob he had made for the house he bought for them. It was made out of an old ballet bar. She was clearly touched, and I got the feeling she really wanted him to tell her NO! Don’t do it! Dr. Joe is moving a tad fast here. There is still their little indiscretion a few weeks back that I’m sure will resurface.
Crosby and Adam meanwhile played hard ball and got dirty. They stole a client away from Crosby’s old boss, something he felt really guilty about doing. He ended up drunk and ranting to his new girlfriend, but talked a little too much about Jasmine in the process . . .
Bob Little promoted Amber to his assistant, which she was a bit uneasy about, especially after he kissed her. He swore he would be professional at work, and the promotion was because she earned it. But next week the two go on a “business trip” together and Christina finally gets wind of what is going on. Can she stop them before Bob destroys his campaign? Because that is where this is headed! Though Amber finding a nice guy is long over due.
Finally Sarah and Mark told one another “I love you,” and later Sarah met all of Mark’s old friends . . . his very young friends she felt she had trouble relating to. They seemed to love her, but she was focused on how young Mark was and how she felt she was stopping him from accomplishing all his dreams. She said she is not getting any younger, and if he wants a baby it’s pretty much now or never for her . . . and she doesn’t want to feel like she’s saddling him down so early.

Ringer is really confusing me as of late. Note to self, sit your ass on the couch and don’t move, not even to pee! Otherwise when you return you may not know what sister you are watching. I get they are trying to make it obvious with the hair styles, but sometimes I still get twisted around. Now that they are both in New York, it’s even more confusing. I also wonder how long they can keep this dance up. I am feeling Bridget is going to find herself kidnapped at some point.
Bridget is getting closer and closer to finding out not only is Siobhan alive, but what she’s been up to. She’s tracked her to her Paris hotel, but didn’t have the info (ie the Credit Card number) to learn the dates of her stay. She also learned that Siobhan was apparently scouting out Bridget for a while before she even made contact, and she had a fake alias.
The arrival of Andrew’s first wife Catherine also complicated things, but made for good TV. Guest star Andrea Roth was probably the best part of the episode. She was in town due to the Juliette scandal. Juliette’s rape accusation against her teacher started to crumble, as the principal had a security camera of her kissing the teacher and him appear to be the one backing off. She swore he raped her when she stopped it from going too far, but it didn’t look good, and even her own mom thought she was a liar. The shock came when Juliette’s ex-friend showed up crying and confessed that the teacher raped her too! What what what! Didn’t see that coming, and from the look on Juliette’s face I don’t think she did either.
Meanwhile Siobhan was trying to get a new passport to create a new fake ID (after Bridget blew her old one), and pawning the ring she stole from Bridget to pay for it, and got caught by Henry. He thought she was Bridget, who is suspected of killing Gemma. After a lot of drama with the cops, she was proved to be Siobhan, because she is. She then confronted Henry and showed him Bridgett (in the background). She explained Bridgett has been playing her, she dumped him . . . but she (Siobhan) loves him still and is still pregnant with his kid.
I could defiantly see Siobhan setting Bridget up to take the fall for Gemma’s murder, and Henry possibly doing something very bad to her. Though if he was smart, he’d begin to figure things out himself. If he confronts Bridget, the two could probably do just that as Bridget told Gemma the truth about her.
Last night was the 2 hour premier of ABC’s “The River.” This has been getting a lot of promo time. It’s from Spielberg and the guy behind the “Paranormal Activity” films. I am a big horror fan, but I’m not a big fan of those movies. I went into this expecting to have a lot of the same techniques from those films in the show, and indeed that’s what it was. A lot of standing around, a lot of talking, a lot of jiggly cameras with some creeps thrown in here and there.
The show is about an explorer, Dr. Emmett Cole, who basically had his own “Discovery Channel” like show for 20 years. He disappears in the Amazon, and his family goes in search of him. A television crew follows to make a show about them searching for him. It turns out after 20 years, he seems to have found something, real magic!
As with a lot of new shows this season, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. It was just okay. This only seems to be an 8 part miniseries, and since I basically just watched the first 2 parts, I want to at least see how it ends. I am also interested the religious/magic themes going on in it too.
I never found myself scared out of my wits, but neither was I with the “Paranomal” movies. There were times with the movies I jumped, but I never felt the dread others did. The same with this show. I never felt dread, and found I only jump once. I did feel creeped out in the second hour with the doll tree. But at the same time I kept wondering “how did people in the Amazon get all these damn plastic made dolls?” That annoyed me more than anything!
One of the men on the team with them was caught by the producer making a phone call, saying if Emmett found the source, he’ll take him out! All I could think of was either there is something in the jungle some corporation wants to make money off of, or this is going to play into some grand Illuminati storyline where people are put in charge of protecting some major world secret. It almost seems from the previews it’s the later, as we saw a clip of Emmett saying something along the lines of “This is the source of it all!”
If you watched, what are your thoughts? All I know is the ratings and reception seem to be less than stellar. So if I stick with this, only to have a giant cliff hanger and the show canned … I’ll be pissed!
Once again a great episode of “Pretty Little Liars” with some unexpected twists and turns! The premise of the show was an event at the school where kids and parents were locked in over night, and they participated in “truth telling” exercises. Yeah, what a great idea for this show!
Spencer used Alison/Vivian Darkwood’s claim ticket and picked up a raincoat. Inside was a phone number. The girls called it, and initially got a woman who was very adamant they not call the number again. At the end of the show a man called asking about Vivian and suggesting they meet. My initial thoughts? The woman was the husband of the (or one of the!) man, who Alison/Vivian was sleeping with. But is she -A? Did she kill Alison? That would be too easy.
Hannah got into hot water for the photo of Kate, which she continued to deny sending. She should have been expelled, but given the odd family circumstances the vice principal decided to start by ordering them both to the “Truth Up” night. Kate’s mom was fuming, but in the end had egg on her face. Hannah realized, after seeing some birth marks on Kate’s body, that the photo sent out was photoshopped. She and the girls found out Kate sent it out herself, she framed Hannah and boosted her own reputation at the school at the same time. Nasty nasty nasty! I really expect Kate to play a part in next season’s “-A” story big time. I could even see herself being the next person killed and mysterying coming from it.
Spenser learned a horrible secret her own family had been keeping for years, something Alison knew and clued her in on, but she never got till now. Why did her dad help Jason DiLaurentis and his family. Because they are family! Spencer’s dad had an affair long ago with Alison’s mom, which Jason was a product of. Ohhhhhhh! I didn’t even see that coming. Good twist! Could Spencer’s dad have actually killed Alison to keep this a secret? Or maybe her mom? But they wouldn’t go so far as to put Spencer in danger with this “-A” game would they? Melissa would I think, and she supposedly doesn’t know the secret . . . or does she?
Emily got back onto the swim team, with some help from Mona. Mona worked in the VP office for awhile and knew that the VP took bribes to let male athletes back onto the team when they got into trouble. Emily refused to blackmail the VP, but Mona took it upon herself to do so for her. Well, so it seems . . . . We only saw Emily watching Mona and the VP talking through an office window . . . . What really went down? Something tells me Mona isn’t on Emily’s side.
Noel Kahn and Jenna continued to get a little too close for comfort, while Caleb continued working to crack -A’s phone. At the end of the show we saw someone steal Caleb’s laptop (but in previews next week he seems to have it back and is showing the cops?). My guess is someone gives him the info he needs? We also saw a quick flash of some locker room where kids write on the wall in black light ink. They write their secrets, and someone wrote “I know who killed Alison.” Could a fellow student have taken Caleb’s laptop to help him, not hinder him? Who is the student who knows? Lucas? Mona? Holden?
So last night I finally got around to watching “Smash.” Yes the show doesn’t actually premier until tomorrow, but Hulu has been offering a sneak peak at the pilot. If you haven’t seen the 8 million commercials for it, or have and don’t know what the show is about, what follows is a brief synopsis before my thoughts.
Julia (Debra Messing) and her business partner Tom write broadway shows. They have a current success on Broadway as the show starts, but are looking ahead. They ponder the idea of an old failed idea, a musical about Marilyn Monroe. This is not what Julia’s husband wants to hear. They are trying to adopt a child, and she was supposed to be taking a year off work in order to do so. Meanwhile Eileen Rand (Anjelica Houston) is trying to make a comeback on the scene by producing a revival of “My Fair Lady” with an acclaimed director Derek Willis (Jack Davenport – “Swingtown/Flash Forward”). However a messy divorce puts all current projects into escrow. She learns of the Marilyn Musical and wants to produce it. She also brings in Derek, who has a very bad past with Tom, the two don’t get along. They all agree to try and make things work, but still need their star. Tom favors Ivy (Megan Hilty) who they’ve worked with for years. However Karen (Katherine McPhee) is a waitress and a virtual unknown, and when she auditions she also catches the eyes of many – including Derek. The question remains, who will get the part?
So is this show going to be a “Smash?” Time will tell. NBC really does need a “Smash” at this point, so many of their new shows have bombed this season, and so they are really promoting it. That for me is never a good sign, when you have to shove it down peoples throats it could potentially be a stinker. I truthfully wasn’t wowed by the pilot, but I enjoyed it. The cast is great, and they make it work. The fact that it’s a show about Broadway of course appeals to me. However this is no “Glee.” It’s not meant to be light and funny, it’s a serious drama with serious issues being tackled (in the pilot alone is homophobia, eating disorders, casting couch techniques.) They also only have two real singers at the moment. However I don’t think it’s meant to be a copy of “Glee,” it’s not meant to be full of numbers and songs. I’ll probably give it a go, especially because the sneak peak at the season looked so delicious. I can’t pass up Anjelica Houston to be honest!
So just some thoughts, but first a bit of a recap, of the last episode of “The Secret Circle.”
The background story going on was that it was Adam’s birthday. His dad Ethan asked Diana to help plan a party for him at the Boathouse, and she agreed. Awkward much? Meanwhile Charles was furious with Dawn for trying to turn Ethan against him and playing all sides. Dawn said they were on the same side, to get their powers back. Charles however warned her not to cross him again.
Cassie found herself having feelings for both Adam and Jake. Jake she didn’t trust, and Adam . . . well there was still the Diana guilt there. Adam screwed himself over a bit though when he stole Cassie’s father’s medallion. He did it to keep her and the circle safe, as Cassie was convinced the medal was the key to fighting the witch hunters as her dad used it in the past.
A woman named Lucy showed up to see Cassie. Cassie recognized her from Jake’s memory, she was there the day of the fire. She’s shocked to learn Cassie has her father’s medallion, and that Blackwell is alive. She offers to help Cassie activate the medallion so she and the circle can use it to protect themselves.
Meanwhile Faye and Melissa are getting way too involved with the wrong crowd, Voodoo Daddy Boy Lee and his drug pushing friend Callum. Melissa gets hooked on this magical drug of Callum’s and keeps turning to him for it, thinking he reminds her of her dead boyfriend as well.
Lucy gathers the circle to activate the medallion, but the spell goes wrong. They realize it’s sucking their power out, much like the spell Faye did a few weeks back. Lucy admits she’s not on their side, she’s going to leave them vulnerable to the hunters basically. Cassie however gets so angry she remembers her father’s words that night and how to use the medallion. She almost lights Lucy on fire, but lets her live. She tells her to tell the hunters they have the medallion and know how to use it!
Before Lucy can leave town, Dawn confronted her. Dawn marked her years ago so she’d know if Lucy ever returned. Lucy was supposed to be on their side, she was supposed to protect them from the hunters. Lucy tells Dawn she was never on their side and stabs Dawn, leaving her to die. Charles, however, who drugged and stole Ethan’s crystal, shows up and saves Dawn with it.
The end had Cassie in her house using her magic and suddenly sensed her father. Meanwhile Lucy met with one of the witch hunter elders. She warned him that Cassie has the medallion and is more powerful than they ever could have thought. He says people keep telling him this, he’ll have to see for himself. He then kills Lucy!
My Thoughts . . .
Why does Charles hang out with Dawn at all anymore, let alone save her life! She is worthless. Sure she’s a great schemer, but it’s Charles doing all the work here. Not only that, but these crystals they are so desperate to get? It seems they waste most of the magic cleaning up Dawn’s messes. Why didn’t he let her die?
I got the feeling that much like with Jake, Cassie’s spell at the end of the show may have summoned her father?
I can’t wait to see her dad return. Things with the adults should get very interesting! I tried looking through my older comments, but couldn’t find it. I swear there was a show that either Jane or Diana’s grandma had made a comment about Diana’s mother having a thing for Cassie’s dad at one time. It made me ponder whether they were sisters and never knew? That could get really interesting! I could see Diana slowly going bad, driven by her dark magic.
I wish the adults (Dawn, Charles) would stop picking on poor Ethan. He needs to get a backbone. I hope John doesn’t treat him like crap when he shows up.
Let’s get Grandma Jane back onto the scene. I miss her, and she was the only one with the power to stand up to some of these people who need to be put in their places.
Season Six will premier on March 4th! That’s only a little over a month away. Woohoo!
*Update* Below is the new trailer for the season which leaves a huge question . . .
Will one wife not survive? Who could it be? I can’t see them off’ing one of their core characters. Perhaps just some random wife on the base we’ve never met?
This trailer is different than one I just saw tonight in a movie theater (I have searched, I can’t find it online). In it we learn a hurricane (I believe they call it Nadine) is headed for the base and surrounding area.
The army is working to help evacuate the town. Roxy is shown trying to get to shelter with her boys. It seems her car flips. Pamela is first on the scene and calls it in, two boys and a female seriously injured.
Trevor is desperately searching for Roxy (who he told to get to shelter). He gets to their house and she’s not there. It seems he gets a call . . .
We later get a glimpse of Roxy in the hospital, she’s pretty badly hurt. We also see Denise standing in front of a window in the hospital which explodes and she’s thrown to the ground.
Grey’s “What If” . . . How About a Private Practice “What If?”
Posted by Dustin on 02.03.2012 at 4:31 pm
On “Grey’s” we had a “What If” episode with Meredith wondering what if her mother never died, what if she had a good father . . . how would things have changed? It was fun to see how different every one was, and to have Ellis back and as The Chief. She was a power hungry monster, Bailey was weak and timid, Addison was strong while Derek was a failure, George flunked out and is still alive somewhere, Christine was an uber-bitch, Alex was a geek and engaged to Meredith . . . Basically everyone was totally opposite of how they really are . . . well maybe not Christina?
As I said, it was a fun episode, but it seemed that the point was you could play the “What If” game all you wanted, but perhaps some things were fated to be . . . As the episode wound down it seemed like everyone was slowly morphing into who they really were. Alex was caught cheating, Addison was consumed with a baby, Bailey found a backbone, and Meredith and Derek ended up together at the bar together . . . I did love seeing the one dead doctor (killed during the crazed gunman spree) back.
Too bad we couldn’t get a “What If” episode of “Private Practice” and erase some of this show huh? Like “What If” they didn’t save Pete! Pete caught Violet kissing Paramedic Scott and flipped. He didn’t want her seeing him anymore. Hello, you’ve been boning girls in elevators Mr. Man! Thankfully Violet unleashed holy hell on Pete, reminding him that he left her, he doesn’t get to tell her what she can or can’t do anymore. What an arse!
Erica got into an accident with Mason in the car, which infuriated Cooper. Long story short, Cooper and Charlotte convinced Erica to try and fight to survive. This of course is going to lead to the upcoming cross-over episode.
Sam got a call and had to bail someone out of the drunk tank in jail. She eerily looked very much like Sam and Naomi’s daughter, but we quickly learned in the final moments of the show that it’s his sister.
Addison and Jake went away on a conference, and basically the sexual tension between them built. He turned her offers for sex down. Based on the previews, it looks like she hooks back up with Sam . . . . WHY !?!?!?!? Again we need a “What If” episode that sticks! What if Sam and Naomi never broke up 🙂
Finally the deeply disturbing story of an army vet who returned from Iraq with a shameful secret, he had been raped by his sergeant. The story was apparently inspired by a Newsweek report last year on the rising number of reported sexual assaults of men in the military.
