Parenthood Thoughts and February Spoiler
So I don’t know if it’s the “Idol” effect or waiting till February sweeps, but a lot of shows don’t return with new episodes until February. “Parenthood” is one. There are spoilers below for the next new episode. Before then some quick thoughts . . . .
I absolutely love that Amber and Hattie have completely switched problem child/good child roles. I’ve always loved Amber, and there has always been something about Hattie that irks me. Now it’s not only her hair, but her attitude. In what world does she live that she thinks her parents should be okay with a 16 year old dating a 19 year old with his own apartment? I guess she lives in “teenage girl world.” Camille of course is making it worse by taking her side and seemingly encouraging this Romeo and Juliet love story. Christina annoys me enough as is, now Camille is making me side with her! I also love that even though Amber has been supportive, she’s also made it clear that the drinking thing is a bad sign, especially when he’s only 6 months sober. You can see this not ending well, with him falling off the wagon.
The story with Adam’s new boss is fun and has potential. Especially from the previews of the next episode when he gives Adam some laced candy. Maybe it will loosen Adam up a little. He’s gotten a little too stuffy since all the stuff with Max hit the fan. Anyone remember the show started with all the kids smoking weed behind the school during their kid’s assembly?
I loved that Crosby stood his ground for once with Jasmine and stepped up to be a parent with Jabar and the play. I still miss Renee 🙂
Oh and the news came out while I was on vacation that Jason Ritter will return for an appearance as Amber’s teacher and Sarah’s first love interest on the show. Weeeee!
FEBRUARY 1 – A HOUSE DIVIDED
ADAM AND KRISTINA FORCE HADDIE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN HER FAMILY AND THE BOY SHE LOVES, WHILE SARAH MAKES A SURPRISING DECISION — MICHAEL B. JORDAN GUEST STARS – Kristina (Monica Potter) refuses to accept Haddie’s (Sarah Ramos), relationship with Alex (guest star Michael B. Jordan, “Friday Night Lights”), causing her to move in with her grandparents. Sarah (Lauren Graham) puts her foot down at work and demands a higher salary to pay for Amber’s (Mae Whitman) tuition. Meanwhile, Max (Max Burkholder) makes a camping trip with Zeek extremely difficult. Julia (Erika Christensen) throws a bachelorette party for Jasmine (Joy Bryant) welcoming her to the Braverman tribe, while Adam (Peter Krause) gets more than he bargained for during a meeting with Crosby (Dax Shepard), shocking the entire family. Tyree Brown, Savanna Paige Rae, Miles Heizer and Sam Jaeger also star.
The main thing that they are forgetting to deal with on the TV show Parenthood is that Alex is 19 and Haddie is 16. That legally makes it a statutory rape situation. In most states, he would get put in prison for sexual contact with a minor, which is basically saying that he is a pedophile as far as most of society is concerned. I can’t believe that they haven’t brought it up yet on the show. If he actually dated her and had sex with her, she would be signing his sex offender papers for the rest of his life. What is the deal? Why haven’t they mentioned anything about that yet. I personally know of 2 people who have gotten this statutory rape charge (sexual conduct with a minor). One of my friend (male) was 19 and his girlfriend was 17. Also, a girl was dating the younger brother of a friend of mine (she was 16 and he was 18). He also is now a sex offender because of having sexual relations with a minor. I personally think the law is crap, but this show needs to be responsible and not be putting ideas in young people’s heads that could get them put into prison and give them a life sentence as a “sex offender” where they would have to register for the rest of their life and never be able to get a good job or be around children again. I love the TV show Parenthood. I think they need to be more responsible about this issue though.
