Desperate Housewives Season Premier Thoughts!
So I just finished “Desperate Housewives” and “Brothers and Sister.” The later show I’ll probably get thoughts on up tomorrow at this late hour.
I really loved this season premier, and feel like with the return of Paul Young that perhaps the show is going to recapture the greatness of the first season. The addition of Vanessa Williams is also going to make an amazing season.
I loved the return of Paul and the hints that he has a plan for the neighborhood and his old neighbors. At the same time, the return of Felicia Tillman proclaiming to her cellmate that Paul will be dead within sixth months is telling. It seems to hint that Paul won’t be around for the whole season perhaps? Maybe we’ll have a who-dunnit mystery sometime this season?
We learned that Juanita Solis is apparently the kid switched at birth, but a nurse who had a drinking problem long ago. So there was no hidden agenda in the switch, just a drunk nurse. I do feel like this was a change from last season, as it seemed like the nurse was forced to do it. While Carlos learned of the issue, he is keeping it from Gabby. At the same time she’s keeping the death of Carlos’ mother at Andrew’s hands from him. Leave it to this show to make a horrible crime into something funny. I loved Gabby’s reaction that Bree should have kept this to herself as she didn’t want to tell Carlos, who would kill Andrew, and then Carlos would go to jail ruining their life which was going so well. I guess had Gabby actually liked her mother-in-law she would have had a different reaction. It looks like from the previews though that Gabby finds out the truth fairly soon. Where is their real kid? What will happen? Obviously they can’t write Juanita out as the dynamic between her and Gabby is too good.
Renee (Vanessa Williams) showed up to visit her old friend Lynette, but it wasn’t just a friendly visit. Renee’s husband was leaving her, her life was falling apart. Clearly this is her reason for reason the rich and glamorous life and moving onto Wisteria Lane. I think Tom was the real scene stealer here with his comments about a 40th birthday fantasy given Renee revealed Lynette had some threesomes in college with some of the sports teams!
Susan and Mike, along with MJ, moved into an apartment in order to save money until they can return to their house. I loved MJ in this episode in reacting to Susan telling him they were now lower-middle class, poor people wished they could live this well. He said “They shouldn’t!” Because Mike is facing a 6 month job in Alaska to make money, Susan is now a cam-girl thanks to her landlord’s website. She has to clean the house in sexy lingerie to make some quick cash. Oh lord, this is just going to be cringe-worthy I’m sure.
Bree took up a new project to keep her mind off other things. It seems she really has signed over her business to that @%@#$% Sam! Orson also left in this episode, taking up with his physical therapist only a week after leaving Bree. Ass! Orson should have left seasons ago, so I won’t miss him. Brian Austin Green made his debut as Keith, the guy Bree hired to help her remodel her house. I don’t know if I like the idea of prim and proper Bree lusting after the handyman, but it could be fun.
I’m pretty sure early on in the episode I heard one of the hospital administrators say that two babies “might have been switched” but then the rest of the episode it sounded as though it was a definite happening, and not a possible one. Did anyone else notice the mention of the word “maybe” or “might”–leading to the possibility of the fact that perhaps Juanita wasn’t switched. I find it kind of odd since Juanita seems to look like she came from Carlos and Gabby–it isn’t like she’s some blond haired, blue eyed little girl that looks nothing like her parents.
