Parenthood Pilot Thoughts

Parenthood Pilot Thoughts

So I watched NBC’s “Parenthood” this week and really enjoyed it. However I found myself constantly comparing it to the movie. The movie is one of my all time favorites, so really there was no way I wouldn’t compare the two. In many cases the families were loosely based on the families in the movie, but some minor changes were made. There was the divorced mother with the SOB ex. The family with the problem child. The family with the workaholic parent. And finally the brother who got surprised by a 5 year old kid he never knew.

In all honesty, I’m not sure how much I would have liked the show if it weren’t for the fact that I like the movie. Also the actors in the show are fabulous, so they go a long way to making the show likable.

In the end, it will be interesting to see how they can carry the stories on their own without the influence of the movie. That I think will be the telling factor as to whether the show is good and can survive.

  1. I didn’t hate the movie, but it’s never been one of my favorites. I really liked the t.v. show, though. I’m looking forward to more, especially how they’ll move forward with the Asperger’s storyline.

  2. I just cleared another hour from my DVR and I have to say that I didn’t think of the movie at all but rather B&S and Modern Family. This ep was heavy on the drama and very lite on the comedy which is the opposite of the Parenthood movie if I remember correctly. I’ll give another 1 or 2 tries but am not optimistic.
