Ugly Betty: Queen For A Day

Ugly Betty: Queen For A Day

So even though “Ugly Betty” has basically turned into a ratings disaster on Fridays, the show has never been better. I’m glad, because honestly after the last season Betty was getting a little boring. Not now, the show is on fire!

This latest episode was a real tear jerker because of the story involved with Justin, the cheerleaders, and the school jocks. It was homecoming and following Mark’s advice, he befriended the mean girls/cheerleaders. That way he’d at least have someone on his side. So he did, and helped them with their outfits and choreography, and they learned to like him. Of course their jock boyfriends didn’t, and as a joke named him homecoming queen. Taking Mark’s advice to always put himself in the joke so they knew their jokes weren’t getting to him, he accepted his award. But then he gave it to his mom, who had to miss her own homecoming because she was pregnant with him.

In the end Justin got a standing ovation from the rest of the school and his family was proud of him. Hilda said she loved him no matter what . . . but Justin told his mom he was just letting them know their jokes weren’t getting to him . . . and that he was not gay. He walked off, and Marc said “If he says he’s not, then he’s not.”

I really love how Marc has become a big brother/father figure to Justin and so involved in his storyline. Of course it’s still not resolved, and I see more drama in the future.

One story I didn’t like this week was Hilda getting all jealous over Betty drooling over and spending time with her bad-boy high school boyfriend. She has Archie who is a great guy, she better not screw that up!

Daniel meanwhile has gotten further and further sucked into the “Cult/Community of the Phoenix.” He invited Amanda to join, but even she ended up telling him this was a cult. Poor Daniel, we were left with a real cliff hanger of him ingesting some insane tea that was going to give him visions of/reunite him with Mollie. What happened? I have to know!

I actually felt sorry for Willy in this episode, as she resigned from “Mode” to go join Connor, all to get the money to pay of Nico’s blackmailer, who is really her lover and in on a scam to con her mom out of money. Of course as she’s getting ready to leave she gets the news that Connor has supposedly been found dead. She was crushed, but I have a feeling Connor is pulling a fake death after learning of her leaving to be with him. I really want Nico to go down though. She’s made me like Willy!

Grey’s and Practice Weekly Thoughts: The Doctor Is In

Grey’s and Practice Weekly Thoughts: The Doctor Is In

Posted by Dustin on 11.14.2009 at 3:40 pm

Mostly just thoughts this time, with some bits of recap being able to be taken away from them . . .

Grey’s Anatomy

Seeing Adele back this week was great, and it was hilarious that she suspected the Chief of having an affair because he hadn’t been home all week. When she accused Bailey, I thought Bailey was gunna mess her pants! That of course sent Bailey on a hilarious goose chase to find the person The Chief may have been cheating with, but I think it was easy to see what was really going on. I was surprised it didn’t cross Adele’s mind, but I guess since the affair thing had also been done before that’s where she went first.

The Chief made a huge mistake during a routine procedure, cutting the bile duct (or something), which turned his patient yellow. Bailey covered for him, and he turned all his surgeries over to her. He then went to a bar. Yup, the Chief has fallen off the wagon! If this is supposed to make me feel sorry for him, well I don’t. I was actually more furious than ever, as if any doctor in the hospital made the mistake he did, he would have fired them. Also given the shhhhh The Chief gave Bailey last season, why is she being so protective of him? I didn’t like that either honestly.

Izzie returned, but only for this episode, and only to bring an old high school teacher to see Derek. Everyone thought he just had dementia or Alzheimer’s, but she knew it was something else, possibly a tumor. She wouldn’t give up, and in the end, she was right and Derek saved the guy and gave him back his lucidity. My guess is that her find will help her get her job back at some point, probably when Derek is named chief.

I loved that during this story Izzie stood up to the Chief, who didn’t want to give the surgery to the guy pro-bono cause his coverage wouldn’t afford it. She reminded him how she gave 8million dollars to this hospital for a clinic! Go Izzie!

Izzie and Alex also had it out, neither one of them could forgive the other for the slights they saw. Izzie blamed Alex for her firing, telling the Chief she wasn’t ready to work. He blamed her for not giving him the benefit of the doubt. I find myself blaming the writers for making us sit through this storyline (too much like the Mer-Der crap) again.

The final, and best, story was Owen bringing in Teddy Alderman as a cardio surgeon for Christina. She was a bit stunned she was a present for his new girlfriend, and of course she always had feelings for Owen which she made clear. He was shocked when she revealed she always thought if he and his wife broke up, he’d call her. Christina meanwhile was fending off the other doctor she had kissed. Yeah I think we can see a quadrangle coming up at some point here. Not in favor of that at all, they use that story device too much on here as is.

Christina of course wasn’t impressed by Teddy, thinking she was a poorly trained not up to date and never published hack. Of course when she finally saw Teddy work, and Teddy stopped taking shhhh from Christina, she was impressed. I know they have too many doctors as is, but I love Kim Raver’s addition to the show. She was great! Her interactions with the other docs was also great (when they were all telling her how Christina has run off all the other cardio attendings).

Private Practice

I was a bit let down with this week’s show. I didn’t like the whole pregnant woman trapped in the car with her dying husband outside story at all. You could tell they weren’t going to give us a happy ending, and didn’t when they had the wife die in Addison’s arms. It was heartbreaking and frankly one gory storyline! I kept cringing through the whole thing just wanting it over.

Throughout the episode they teased us with a Sam and Addison pairing, how he originally asked her out in school but she said no as Naomi had a crush on her . . . and she also had Derek at the time. At the end of the show they finally kissed, but giggled after and said “You aren’t Naomi/Derek.” I hope that means they AREN’T going to try and pair these two up, as I think that would be a big no-no.

Pete and Sheldon competed for the same women at some bar on their night off. It was just some huge metaphor for Violet, and Sheldon told Pete he needed to admit he still loved Violet and wasn’t over her.

Violet, Cooper and Charlotte meanwhile dealt with a groom who took too many viagra on his wedding day as to impress his bride. They were supposed to be virgins, but she wasn’t. She heard the first time hurt and wanted to be good as well, so she did it with some other guy and got knocked up. The whole storyline set up a mini battle between Violet and Charlotte that has been simmering for two seasons now. Violet felt Charlotte wasn’t putting her heart into her patients, was only healing them on the outside. She said that’s not how they did things here, they listen to their patients, they help them. It was time someone told Charlotte that, as she’s still been the cold heartless doctor that got her fired from the other practice.

So when the groom found out about the wife, he wanted to divorce her. Charlotte told him this long story about how she was married, but her husband did a bad thing she couldn’t forgive, so she left him and now has a great life. However he was always her “one” she thought, and she sometimes thinks what it would be like if she tried to work it out. Violet overheard her of course, and when confronted, Charlotte says she made it up to just help the kid, which is what Violet wanted her to do. Violet of course was disgusted, has Charlotte lied about the past, or is she a compulsive liar? That was the big question, and I think it’s a bit of both honestly. At the end of the show as she and Coop were in bed, Charlotte said “I have something to tell you . . . ” So was Charlotte married? If so, you know that guys going to come back at some point!

Heroes: Matt’s In Some Deep . . .

Heroes: Matt’s In Some Deep . . .

Posted by Dustin on 11.12.2009 at 8:35 pm

Just some quick thoughts on the latest “Heroes.”

The storyline with Matt and Sylar was the best part of the episode. Though poor Matt, Sylar killed all those people in his body. Something tells me saying “My body was taken over by a serial killer” isn’t gunna fly. I guess he could sway the jury with his powers 🙂 The end where he set Sylar up to be shot by the cops, knowing they’d both die, was shocking. I thought they were gunna kill Matt off! From the previews it looks like Peter heals him though.

Sylar’s body meanwhile woke up as Nathan again and fled the carnival and tracked down Peter. Of course Samuel’s gunna be pissed that Sylar is gone. I still don’t get why he is recruiting all these heroes, and he should know better not to have Sylar around all these people with powers.

Samuel tried to recruit Claire for some reason this week. Again we don’t know why, and frankly this carnival story is on my last nerve. It’s confusing and befuddled and they need to really explain what Samuel’s agenda is. We got a back story about Becky, the invisible girl, who had a bone to pick with Noah for killing her dad (so it seems). Not convinced that’s really what happened though. Oh and we learned Danko killed Samuel’s brother, and the compass supposedly lets them guide the traveling carnival or something. Again, we need an episode that explains this carnival 🙂

A good episode, but seeing a certain character and knowing he’s getting killed off soon sucks 🙁

For Glee Fans

This post is somewhat of a mindless ramble, but I really wanna make this movie known to those who have no idea about it. If you are a “Glee” fan, this is a movie that you’ll probably love and will touch your heart. I know it didn’t invent the genre, “Fame” did that. But if you love “Glee,” do your self a favor and rent the movie “Camp.” It’s an amazing musical with a lot of talented kids and is sure to make you shed a tear before the finale.

Oh and if that doesn’t do it, Kristin Chenowith (April Rhodes on Glee) is signed to star in a Broadway reprise of “Promises Promises” with Jack from “Will and Grace!” The big number from this musical is featured in this movie!

Now enjoy a preview of a song from “Camp” (cause I couldn’t find the trailer on YouTube).

V Series: Thoughts On The Second Episode

V Series: Thoughts On The Second Episode

Posted by Dustin on 11.11.2009 at 1:29 pm

I don’t know, I guess the highlight of this second episode for me was seeing Roark Critchlow (Mike Horton) show up as an FBI agent/boss.

After last week’s premier basically squeezed half the miniseries into one night, I wondered what they would do the rest of the season. Well that answer comes in two parts. 1) it goes off the air at the end of November and doesn’t return till next march. 2) based on this episode I think it might drag.

Last night’s episode was a struggle to hold my interest. The main character’s V-loving kid Tyler is a brat and not very likable. He’s not loath-able like the one in the original though either. He’s in love with the girl V, but she doesn’t like him much after she saw him start a fight with some people harassing his friend. YAWN. The only twist I can see here is she’ll get pregnant with the hybrid, not the other way around as it was in the original.

Scott Wolf’s story angering Anna and the V’s with his news report, under the claim he really was helping them by swaying public favor, was boring too.

One interesting thing they at least address was cross-species sex. Both with Ryan and Erica’s missing partner Dale, who is a V. She said if he has been a V and here as long as he has, well he’s married, his wife had to have had some notion he was different! Meanwhile Ryan continues to hide his V status from the woman he loves and wants to marry.

The whole episode basically lead up to Erica and the Priest beginning to form a new resistance, this time one made up of humans, not traitor Vs.

Eastwick Cancelled

Eastwick Cancelled

Posted by Dustin on 11.10.2009 at 5:23 pm

Most of you have read this in the shoutbox or tweet bars, but just in case, ABC officially canceled “Eastwick.” No more episodes past the initial 13 (which I believe they were just filming this week) will be produced.

As of yet, no word on another network saving the show. Kristin at E! is saying that in January ABC might move “Ugly Betty” to the time slot, as it’s getting slaughtered on Friday where it is now (which everyone knew would happen!).

The Next Grey’s/Practice Crossover Event

The Next Grey’s/Practice Crossover Event

Posted by Dustin on 11.09.2009 at 6:51 pm

News broke a few days ago that McSteamy and Addison would be doing a cross-over in January. Mark calls Addison to do surgery on a patient of his (guest star Leven Rambin) on “Grey’s” and in the second episode Mark goes to L.A. with the patient for more on “Private Practice.”

Ausiello has now reported that this cross over might lead to a big problem for Lexie, as well a steamy rumor going around that the character played by Leven is in fact McSteamy’s daughter!

Ohhhh things on these shows look to be getting good!

Sunday Night Line Up: Housewives and Brothers and Sisters Recap And Thoughts

Sunday Night Line Up: Housewives and Brothers and Sisters Recap And Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 11.09.2009 at 2:27 pm

My thoughts and opinions are separate from the recaps this week, so you can skip the recap if you just wanna read my thoughts.

“Desperate Housewives”
Gabby found herself not able to do both the housework as well as home school Juanita. She told Carlos she needed help, so he hired a maid. She wanted a tutor, but got one in the end. The maid was Romanian and had a PhD, so she taught Juanita while Gabby did the housework. Carlos eventually found out and agreed they’d hire a tutor for Juanita as Gabby said she just isn’t a home schooling kind of mom, as much as it hurt her to admit that.

Angie invited Bree and Orson over for dinner, hoping to get Bree to hire her once she had tasted her cooking. Bree didn’t, but when a client wanted a traditional Italian dinner, Bree used Angie’s recipes on the sly, only to later be caught. Bree did hire Angie in the end, but Angie wanted to know why Bree hated her. Bree felt she fought with her husband in public and aired her private life out for everyone to see. Angie said they all can’t have the perfect marriage Bree does. Bree said her marriage wasn’t perfect, and opened up about her problems. Angie felt sorry for her, but was also impressed as she made the comment that she knows how to keep certain things secret as well.

Susan and Mike went to the cops with the idea that Katherine attacked Julie. They weren’t so sure, and a female detective (guest star Kathy Najimy) offered to take the case. However she had other motives, she and Susan went to high school and Susan of course stole her boyfriend back then, as well as gave her the nickname “Moose” which stuck. Oh no! The woman was completely sympathetic to Katherine, and later told Susan that Katherine was on the phone with her daughter when Julie was attacked, the phone records prove it. She also learned about Susan shooting Katherine and not reporting it, which was a crime. In the end she locked up Susan!

Finally Lynette learned from Julie that Nick was the married man she had the affair with. When Lynette told Nick to stay away from Julie, he issued a veiled threat to Lynette to mind her business. She and Tom began to worry that Nick attacked Julie and went to the cops. Later Angie told Nick the cops called while he was out, they wanted to know where he was when Julie was attacked as it seems they were having an affair. Nick tried to deny it, but Angie said she had known for weeks about him and Julie. She told Nick that she didn’t like it, but they are in fact stuck with each other, so they have to deal with it.

My Thoughts . . .
I loved Bree and Angie together, I think they could be a really fun team. Bree needs someone in her life to teach her how to really say what she feels and not be so polite all the time. This could be a match made in heaven!

Based on Angie’s comments to Nick that they were basically stuck together, again it seems more and more that they are stuck together in the witness protection program. Also since Angie knew about the affair, it seems she is now a suspect in Julie’s attack, though one nobody knows about but Nick. Again, if they have any hope of keeping her on, I don’t know if they can really make her the attacker. But it seems the show wants us to entertain the possibility.

Finally I have to make this comment yet again. Hello this is November sweeps? I expect the shows to pull out the punches and big shocking stories, but so far “Housewives” hasn’t. Fortunately “Brothers and Sisters” really has been delivering!

“Brothers and Sisters”
Kitty began looking at alternative treatments to chemo this week, thinking she brought cancer into her life with her lifestyle and personality. She thought if she could get negativity and anger out of her life, she could cure herself. Both Sarah and Nora were against this and it lead to some spats as they wanted her to continue Chemo.

Robert was caught on tape, which was of course leaked to youtube, blasting a rival opponent for being a racist. Kevin wanted to do some control, thinking he could kiss half the Republican party support goodbye now. Robert however wouldn’t apologize and wanted to let it stand. He was not ashamed of what he said.

At the cancer center Nora met an oncologist named Simon who seemed taken with her. They went on a bike ride after she broke down to him about her daughter. Later they met at again at a benefit the center was throwing. He asked her on a second date, assuming their ride on his bike was the first. She was a bit taken aback, he was much younger, but Sarah felt she should go for it.

During the benefit Kitty’s hair started falling out. She rushed home, and later made the decision to do another round of Chemo. She also shaved her head at the end of the episode!

Rebecca had been sick with the flu and was taking awhile to get over it. Justin kept worrying she might have cancer, but later suspected she might be pregnant. She told him she wasn’t pregnant, it was just the flu. The next morning Justin told her he’s sorry for thinking she was pregnant and wasn’t telling him, and then went on about how now was just not the time to have a kid. Of course in the end, she is pregnant!

Scotty’s dad returned this episode with news that he and Scotty’s mom separated and were getting a divorce. The dad was in town for a big comic book convention and met up with Scotty, giving him the news there. Scotty worried it was because of him being gay and mom’s religious views, but it wasn’t. As it turned out, Scotty’s dad had been having an affair for months. He even had brought the woman with him. Scotty was heart broken his dad did that. Later though Kevin told him he never had a chance to deal with his dad’s philandering ways while he was alive, Scotty did have that chance. Scotty said he wasn’t ready to see his dad just yet, but in all honesty, he wasn’t too mad given he always wanted his dad to stop talking crap from his mom and be happy. By the end of the episode Scotty’s dad sent over his first issue Captain America comic, hoping they could use it to help with the surrogacy expenses. Scotty had to explain to Kevin how this was worth a lot, a whole lot.

My Thoughts
So the past few episodes Robert’s campaign problems have been getting worse. He’s up against an incumbent in his own party, and now this issue with the racist and his tirade being leaked to the web. The show seems to be hinting that Robert is going to lose the primary . . . but after last night and Kevin telling him he could kiss a lot of Republican support goodbye . . . I have a feeling Robert is going to end up running as an Independent.

I absolutely love the storyline with Nora and Simon. Nora is moving into CougarTown! I have wanted to see Nora with a man and really happy for a long time now. It seems they all but dropped that English bloke from last season. Frankly, I like this Simon guy a lot better.

I have to wonder if Callista really shaved her head at the end of the episode or not. It sure looked real. I could probably google and find out.

Finally I loved the return of Scotty’s dad in this episode, though the news of the affair was a bit disappointing. However it seemed clear from the previous episodes and the fundamental disagreements between the parents over Scotty, that something was going to happen with their marriage. Will the mom come around once they have a kid though?
