Ellen Degeneres New Idol Judge

Ellen Degeneres New Idol Judge

EW broke the news last night that Ellen Degeneres is the new “American Idol” judge, replacing Paula Abdul.

Good or bad idea? I think she’ll have great feedback, but a lot think she has little to do with the music industry and wonder why her? Did they chose her just because she’s Ellen?

She should have something to say on her talk show today I’m sure!

  1. I’m going to quit watching. She’s an activist, not a host. Fox can take their phoney talent show and attact all of Ellen’s fans. I won’t be watching, and I’m betting they’ll be a lot of families who take this show off their list.

  2. She said today she would be the voice of the people who watch the show, buy and listen to music.

If people turn off the show because she is gay, well that is their choice. But I think it is small minded.

  3. I think it’s a great idea Dustin. The reason why is because I know nothing about music what’s so ever so I have to agree she’ll be listening to what the public listens to and not music per say. If a note isn’t high enough well people like her and I will have no clue we just like it or don’t like it. Some people say the ratings will go down with her on it but I don’t think so. If anything they will go up. Ellen has a huge fan base 🙂 I’m finally glad to see that there is a judge who just likes to listen to it and have fun and isn’t looking at all the technical aspect of music. Her being gay has nothing to do with it. If people stop watching it because she’s gay then it’s there loss. Who cares what sexual orientation she is but sadly enough the world narrow minded.

  4. I don’t actually watch Idol but do watch Ellen on occasion. How is she an activist? Because she is openly gay? Do you talk about your spouse, partner or family? As a midwestern wife and mother, I am more likely to watch Idol now because Ellen would bring her wit and charm to the show. Who do you think her huge demographic is? Have you seen the people in the audience? They look like average people who are mothers, fathers, grandparents that make those families you think will stop watching. I agree with Nikki, I think it is more likely the rating would go up. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I just don’t see her as an activist, she is just who she is and if that helps move a cause closer to where it should be then woo hoo is what I say.

  5. I don’t watch Idol because I don’t like Paula Abdul, but I think i’m going to start watching because of Ellen. She’s hilarious!!! I’ve never seen her as an activist, but aren’t we all activists?? I stand up for what I believe in and i’m sure everyone else does too.

I think she’ll be more apt to listen to people and not be a “know it all” like some of the other judges – – coughcough**Simon**cough…

I think she will be a great judge. I wish I could watch her show more, but it’s on while I am working!

  6. I absolutely LOVED her when she guest judged on So You Think You Can Dance this summer. She had nice feedback for everyone, tried to find the positive like Paula did, but she made more sense. I think she’ll be a great addition to the show and won’t hurt their ratings at all.

  7. Don’t understand why people object to Ellen because she is not an authority on music—so I guess all the phone in voters are experts? Still haven’t figured that one out!!! I think she will add a nice voice to the judges comments.
