Can Grey’s Pull Off An ER?

Can Grey’s Pull Off An ER?

Krisin at E! just posted a scoop about Katherine Heigl being written out of “Grey’s” for several episodes while she goes off to film a movie. Stop reading now if you don’t want spoilers!

Looks like Seattle Grace and Mercy West (their competing hospital) merge and Izzie is laid off!

Add Izzie being off screen to Meredith being gone a lot this season because of the actress’ maternity leave, then throw in no George because he’s dead . . . well it seems a lot of our favorites won’t be on half the season!

The show is said to be bringing in new doctors and nurses to make up for the regulars going missing.

I don’t know, I don’t want more new doctors on the show. I feel like if the show does start going the way of “ER” (replacing old cast members with new ones) that I probably will lose interest just like I did with “ER.”

Is there enough to keep you watching “Grey’s” with a bunch of the originals going MIA this season?

  1. I’m with you Dustin, too many new characters and it won’t seem like Greys with all the change. Why can’t they give the others extra stories, or focus a little more on the medical stuff to fill the gap. Also – correct me if I’m wrong but why would they lay a resident off? And if they did, shouldn’t it be someone lower in training (like all of Lexie’s class)? Don’t even get me started that most HR departments wouldn’t lay someone off who just came back from medical leave. And finally – didn’t they kind of do this with Izzie before with the Denny situation?? I felt the show was getting a lot better and more like the old Greys at the end of season 5, but I’m scared to see what it will be like now.

  2. I thought the same thing, isn’t she still a resident and not an employee lol. Isn’t the clinic hers, through her own funding lol.

  3. I would feel better if for the Izzy was MIA for a few episodes was because of more medical leave or personal vacation. Who wouldn’t need it after that. I just feel like the show will lose the momentum it finally was able to get at the end of last season and just throw it down the drain.

  4. Oh my god Dustin, I forgot that she donated 8 million dollars to build a free clinic! I don’t expect shows to be perfectly realistic but Izzie getting laid off is ridiculous. They might as well merge the hospital with Salem University Hospital and have Stefano behind it. Why can’t they have Izzie and Meredith leave together for some sort of work related training or volunteer program?

  6. McChoker, lol. That is so wrong but hilarious. I would at least give it the full season to see when Izzie and Meredith are back on regularly to see if they can bring it back up to speed. However, the chemistry between the original cast is what made it great and even though I like some of the others it would not be the same if they try to bring in too many others.
