True Blood: Godric Goes Into The Sun

True Blood: Godric Goes Into The Sun

Not my most favorite of “True Blood” episodes, just thought I’d get that out of the way up front.

Luke showed up at Godric’s nest with a message from Steve Newlin. He had a bomb strapped to him, and was wrapped in silver chains. It sent a shrapnel of silver everywhere and into the vamps basically. Eric shielded Sookie from the bomb, but took several hits. He told her he was dying so she would remove the shrapnel from his body. For some reason this required her sucking it out like poison, and doing so she injested his blood, connecting her to him. Bill was furious, as was Sookie who realized Eric tricked her.

Nan Flanagan, the vampire lady always on TV and the political representative for them, was furious at the mess Godric caused. It seems his right hand man, the cowboy vamp Stan, was the one who killed Steve’s parents and was ready to start a war with the humans. Godric said he would take responsibility for this. Nan started by firing him. Isabella was appointed sheriff in his place it seems.

Eric was furious, as well as stunned, when Godric admitted to giving himself up to be sacrificed. Godric no longer wanted to live and decided to commit suicide by watching the sun rise. Eric was ready to give himself up as well, but he forbid it. Sookie stayed with Godric as he burst into blue light and faded away.

Later, as Sookie lay with Bill, she has dreams of having sex with Eric!

Back in Bon Temps, Tara was hurting the day after her and Eggs had their weird sex-fight brought on by Maryann. When Lafayette saw her, he thought Eggs was beating on her. Lafayette and Tara’s mom stormed Sookie’s house to take Tara away. They got a look at Tara and Eggs going black-eyed and were frightened. They ran off with Tara, but Maryann said she’d be back and she’d bring them with her!

Maryann headed to jail furious. She put Sheriff Daryl Daryl into a trance and then went in to free everyone locked up because of her. She wanted Sam as her sacrifice, only to find he shape shifted into a fly and flew away! Sam ended up nekkid on Andy’s doorstep.

Meanwhile Hoyt introduced Jessica to his prejudiced and hate filled mother. Hoyt confronted her about hating everyone and especially any girl he liked. She felt he’d waste his life away on Jessica, who couldn’t give him what a human could, namely children. Jessica ran off in tears and Hoyt told his mother he was through with her and was moving out. After he left, Maryann showed up demanding Sam Merlot be handed over to her for sacrifice.

My Thoughts
I thought Godric’s death was not only really sad (I liked the character) but at the same time super lame. Last season when Bill ran into the sun to save Sookie, he caught fire and started melting and burning up. Godric turned blue and as a friend put it, well it looked like Scottie was beaming him up to the Enterprise.

Not at all liking that Eric is messing with Sookie’s head the way he is. Also, seriously, it would never occur to me to suck silver out of someone’s wounds. Ew! Maybe I missed him tell her to do that. She should also have known better, known what it meant to drink a vampires blood.

Loved Lafayette and Lettie Mae’s rescue of Tara, but again, wish she’d snap out of her black-eyed zombie spell she’s under. If Maryann meets her maker, I hope Tara sends her there.

The short clip of Steve and Sarah fighting on the TV segment was priceless. “I hate your hair!” Is that the last we see of them?

One of these days I’m gunna start reading these books. I’m hoping sometime this fall when I finally have some free time 🙂

  1. I loved Godric meeting the sun. I think they stayed away from the melting as it was (in the books and for the show) a rather poignant scene. There’d be a lot more criticism if Godric was a jerk off and then said, “Actually, I just want to die.” Then no one would care. The point is that we understand his pain and reasons for meeting the sun. Eric crying for his maker was rather poignant in itself. And Eric and Sookie together H-O-T!

  2. I believe Godric told someone (Sookie) that because of his age, his death by sunlight would be quick (unlike when a much younger Bill burst into flames).

I too loved the clip of the Newlins – hilarious that Steve had the red mark on his forehead from the paint ball! I also cheered when Lafayette grabbed Tara and got her away from Maryanne. I was expecting him and Lettie Mae to fall under Maryanne’s trance too since they were all agitated and angry. Maybe Lafayette’s exposure to Eric’s blood made him resistant (hey – just a thought – I wonder if Lafayette has sexy dreams of Eric too)

I like how Sam went to Andy at the end of the show. Poor Andy needs to have some of his dignity back.

I wonder if there will be some confrontation between Maryanne and the vampires.

Dustin, were there any previews for next week? We don’t get them in Canada (at least I don’t).

  5. Eric did tell Sookie she had to suck out the silver. I don’t quite recall what she was going to get to help him but he told her there was not time and he was dying. When he told her what she had to do she was grossed out and did not want to but he guilted her into it.

  6. Godric told her it wouldn’t take long, not at his age – in reference to him burning up. I would take that to mean the older you are the quicker you burn – hence why when exposed to the sun Godric lit up quickly and the much, much younger Bill melted and burned. At least that’s my take.

  7. Im not all that end to this show, only watch parts here and there but I do read the recaps every week, but I was liking Eric and this week kind of killed it for me.

I don’t know, I have friends who love him and Sookie and thing its great but to me tricking her into being with him? It’s effectively what he did. If shes not drawn to him because of the vampire blood that’s not exactly romantic to me. Do I think she liked Eric? Yeah, but now its not really by her own choice if shes drawn to him

Eric totally Jacob’d on me and I freakin loath Jacob >.> from Twilight.

  8. In the books the blood exchange makes them feel each others emotions but it doesn’t make her drawn to him like the show has said.
