Harper’s Island: Stolen Money

Harper’s Island: Stolen Money

So this week “Harper’s Island” moved to Saturday’s at 9pm, it’s new time. I was out of town last week. While I saw it, I never got around to the write-up. Basically Hunter was leaving the island with the money Trish’s dad paid him when he was killed in his boat. Meanwhile Abby begged her dad the sheriff to look into that girls supposed suicide, and he found out it might not have been one at all.

This week Henry and the boys had a day for the guys, while Trish and the girls had their party.

The boys started with a bit of fishing, and ended up finding what was left of Hunter. Malcolm (the one who looks like Hurley from Lost) wanted to take the money. He had some business venture he was trying to start (a beer company) and wanted to keep the money. He accidentally, using the gun in the back, shot a whole in Hunter’s boat and it sank. The guys ended up agreeing to hide the money until they could decide what to do with it.

Booth was chosen to hide the money, and he went off to hide it. Malcolm followed him, clearly to steal it back. Well Booth, panicked when he was being followed and pulled out a gun. He shot himself accidentally, so it appeared . . . . He ended up bleeding to death . . . so it appeared . . . . Malcolm took the money and left the guy in the woods!

Meanwhile Trish was getting ready for her party and saw her step-mother getting kinky freaky in the basement with Richard, who I believe is her dad’s business associate and Trish’s brother-in-law.

Later Trish was devastated when something odd happened, all the china for the wedding which had been set out was smashed to pieces. It was her mother’s, she couldn’t replace it.

Abby went looking for Trish’s niece, who was in the basement playing with some weird dice or cards or something. She told Abby she wasn’t going to get the chance to be a flower girl. Abby asked who told her that? She said the spirits!

The girls hired a psychic for their party, and she kept having weird issues about Abby. When she got the list of the girls, her nose bleed and dripped on Abby’s name. Later she almost accidentally ran her over! At the party she ran off after holding Abby’s mother’s locket. She later told Abby to leave this island “He wanted her dead and wouldn’t stop!”

Back to Henry’s party, Malcolm showed up late, claiming he overslept. But Booth never showed . . . The guys hired Henry a stripper, who ended up being some girl he’s known since she was ten. Henry also confronted Richard at his party about cheating with Trish’s step-mom. Richard didn’t seem to be bothered, and even dared Henry to tell Mr. Wellington, he would probably be surprised by the reaction!

At the end of the show, a very drunk Trish found a blow-up doll floating in the pool. The boys had been carrying it around all day. She fell in trying to get it out, and suddenly the pool cover began closing over her. Someone dove in and rescued her. It appeared to be Henry at first, who was there when she was pulled out. However it was Richard who dove in, saying it was a good thing he was walking by! (This was predicted earlier by the psychic, who told her that her nemesis was a man, but would also be her savior).

Some Thoughts . . .

So Malcolm has clearly set himself up for death. Stealing the money and leaving Booth to die won’t go unpunished!

Is Booth dead? All we saw was him pass out from blood loss, next thing we know Malcolm is in his hotel room with the money. It also seems Booth shot himself, he wasn’t a target. Yeah this is suspicious, and I think we have our first “not really dead victim” with Booth.

Richard’s comment to Henry about his cheating was very odd. The end with him just happening to save Trish makes him look suspicious, but I don’t think he’s the killer. I think he is involved in some weird threesome relationship with Trish’s step-mom and dad though!

Grey’s Anatomy: Izzie’s Mom Visits, So Does Thatcher

Grey’s Anatomy: Izzie’s Mom Visits, So Does Thatcher

Posted by Dustin on 05.01.2009 at 5:08 pm

So last night’s “Grey’s,” it was good, but I don’t know . . . . It was clearly overshadowed by the “Practice” finale which came after it.

Izzie’s mom tore into the hospital like a tornado. Bailey called her, thinking Izzie might need her mom, only to realize her mom made things worse. She meant well, but basically as Izzie put it . . . her mom is limited. She’s one of those women whose kids have to look after her, which is not what Izzie needs right now. The mom was sure Izzie would be fine, because her phone psychic told her. Bailey lied to her, telling her the latest scan was good. It wasn’t though, and Izzie had to go in for more surgery.

Thatcher returned, he was trying to get sober and was doing his steps. He needed to make amends, and The Chief asked Meredith and Lexi to hear him out as a favor to him. Lexie forgave her dad, Meredith coldly said she was happy for him, it seemed he wanted to get better, she wished him luck . . . then she left. Later Lexie convinced Mark to meet her dad, though Mark was not happy about it as dad’s usually don’t like him.

Callie contemplated lying to her family, saying she broke up with Arizona. That way she’d get her trust fund back. It seems she was having money issues and couldn’t afford rent. Arizona said she’d still be with her if she lied, but Callie refused. She said her family is supposed to love her for who she is, unconditionally.

Christina confronted Owen when he kept being short with her and saying “Have a nice day” and “You take care.” He told her his therapist gave him a list of short things to say to her, but what he wanted to say he couldn’t . . . because it wouldn’t be fair to her. He knew what he did to her, he had to stay away from her so she could move on to. In tears she told him to “take care now” and ran off.

Meredith and The Chief went head to head over a case of an abused woman and daughter, the daughter who ended up shooting the father 28 times . . . she was like 5 years old! Meredith felt the mother needed to leave the husband, that it shouldn’t be up to her 5 year old to protect them from her father, that was the mother’s job. The Chief felt she was out of line and said he would suspend her if she didn’t stop.

Meredith ended up blowing up at The Chief, telling him that he treated her differently than all the others, she wanted to be treated the same. He denied it, but Derek ended up pointing out to The Chief it was true . . he was always butting into Meredith’s personal life. The Chief eventually sat down with Meredith. He basically apologized for the affair with her mom, for not looking out and protecting her when clearly neither of her parents were doing it, for letting her be a neglected child.

My Thoughts
The stuff with The Chief and Meredith was the best part of this episode. The Chief has been getting on my nerves a lot lately, and Meredith was right when she lashed out at him. Kudos to Derek for also pointing out to The Chief how he basically acts like Meredith’s father. I was happy to see The Chief apologize to Meredith for the past and what happened, especially when her own father’s apology was basically a big pile of steaming crapola.

The Christina and Owen stuff was just heartbreaking, no other words for it really!

The one thing that I didn’t get was how we were supposed to believe Callie was so poor without daddy’s money. If she had med school bill loans and all, okay that I could see. But we were told in the previous episode her dad paid for it all, that she had a trust fund, her family was loaded. So for her, a surgeon, to supposedly not have enough money for rent . . . Yeah not getting that one.
