Heroes: Season 3 Finale

Heroes: Season 3 Finale

Posted by Dustin on 04.28.2009 at 6:05 pm

So last night was the big season finale of “Heroes.” First up a brief recap, then my thoughts on why I think they’ve just set it up for next season to be the last season of “Heroes.”

Sorry for any grammar errors! These will be corrected when I can proof this in a bit!

Noah/HRG figured out there was a roadblock coming, so he sent all the Petrelis and Claire fleeing, giving himself up for capture. He was thrown in a cell in Building 26. Meanwhile Sylar was more than pissed with Emile/The Hunter and set him up. He shape-shifted into Emile and opened fire on some of his own men, then shifted to an agent and captured Emile, who was thrown into the same cell with Noah. Noah and Emile realized they’d have to work together to stop Sylar.

Angela had a dream that Parkman would save Nathan, so she went looking for him. Claire went looking for Nathan, who Sylar had locked in a bathroom and shifted to. He was off to meet the president to become the president. Claire insisted on tagging along, clearly knowing this wasn’t her dad.

Peter rescued Nathan, and then flew off after Sylar. Nathan had to reveal to the secret service he was one of them, showing them he could fly, and telling them the man going to meet the president right now was not him and very dangerous. Sylar had by this point taken Claire prisoner and was telling her how they would grow old together while everyone around them died. She said she would never stop trying to kill him, but he claimed in time she’d come to love him.

Nathan and Peter found and fought Sylar. Sylar escaped with Nathan, who he later killed. Slit his throat, blood ran everywhere . . . Nathan is dead! Sylar took his form and then went to meet with the president. However in another twist, the person he met with was not the president . . . it was Peter shifted into the president! Peter stole Sylar’s power to shapeshift when they fought! Peter drugged Sylar then.

Meanwhile, at Building 26, Hiro and Ando staged a plan to free everyone. However Hiro was having more and more issues with his powers. Ando told him not to use them anymore, his head could explode. He used them to freeze time one last time and free Surresh and the others. They then put all the guards in the building in the containment room and hooked them up to the knockout gas containers. Surresh looked at Hiro and told him not to use his powers again, it could kill him, his body was rejecting them it seemed. However when Emile betrayed Noah and was about to kill him from behind, Hiro froze time to save Noah from Emile. Hiro then passed out, but later we learned was still alive.

Back in some suite somewhere, everyone learned Nathan was dead. Then they had to decide what to do with Sylar. A plan was hatched. They needed Nathan as a senator to fix everything. Sylar was coming unhinged because of the shapeshifting. They had Matt use his power to convince the unconscious Sylar that Gabriel Grey was dead and he was now Nathan Petreli. Angela knew Sylar could absorb all of Nathan’s memories from him, and he could shapeshift physically into Nathan. This solved the issues, and they later burned the shapeshifters body in Building 26 that looked like Sylar. This would go to convince “Nathan” that he was Nathan and Sylar was dead. Nathan also planned to set up a new company to help maintain control and balance with Angela and Noah apparently running things.

Months Later . . .

Hiro and Ando apparently returned to Japan, and we assume Matt to Janice and his son.

Angela stopped by to see Nathan and go to lunch with him. Nathan seemed a bit off, and was fixated on a clock . . . . He said the time was always a minute off, he adjusted it, and they went to lunch.

Meanwhile a guard from Building 26 returned home to find his kitchen sink running and spilling all over the floor. From the water came Tracy! She said “You’re number 4” and attacked.

We then see someone (Matt?) reading a paper article about the fourth mysterious death by drowning!

My Thoughts
So first up, as I said before, I think they’ve set it up for the next season to be the last probably. Why? Well the ratings are still down, and NBC renewed the show but with a shorter season (18 episodes I think). Ali Larter’s (Tracy) move career has been taking off, and Zachary Quinto’s probably will in 2 weeks with the “Star Trek” movie coming out. Then there is the rumored fighting of the actors playing Claire and Peter. They were dating, broke up, and rumor has it she wanted him fired and wouldn’t appear in any scenes with him.

First up, they’ve set Tracy up as the villain for next season it would seem. There is still the other triplet Barbara to bring in and explain at some point. I could see her being brought in to face off with Tracy and leave one and one only remaining.

The other reason I see them setting it up to end has to do with the Nathan and Sylar twist. With them in the same body, I think they’ve set it up for an internal showdown. Sylar was clearly losing it at the end of this season because of all the people he had stolen from. What it seems they’ve set up is a story that only one soul/persona can inhabit a body at one time, so there will be a war between the two in order to see who survives. It’s basically the Nikki/Jessica issue all over again, which Micah warned Sylar about all ready.

Did I like the finale? Yes, but as usual I have issues. We didn’t get any resolve with a lot of the characters. Hiro’s health? Noah’s marriage? Seems like we have to wait for next season for those questions, along with where did Alice go off to?

  1. I believe it was Nathan reading the paper about the 4th mysterious death and then “his” mom came in to take him to lunch. I think that it is cool that Tracy can melt and reform, unless it is really Barbara instead. I didn’t like at the end of the season when they were convincing Matt to make Sylar think he was Nathan, as this was the only way out of the situation. Hello…Matt could implant thoughts into the President and anyone else to get them to forget, or how about call the Haitian. I see the Sylar-Nathan as yet another thing that will tear apart Noah and Claire and their family as it will be yet another lie, and this will probably happen after things are reconciled. Overall I like this season, it was definitely better than last season. Now it just sucks waiting til fall.

  2. I reaaly liked the finale too! Nathan’s throat getting slit was unexpected. So when they said one character would die, they meant Nathan, but yet the actor is still there. Tricky and sneaky!!

  3. I don’t think Tracy is really a villain, I think of it more as clean up. They can’t have these people walking around knowing about them nor can they go unpunished for what they did. I do wonder how they will explain her powers now, is water and ice based or now just water? And what ever happened to Monica, thought we would see her since we saw Micah but yet again utter disappointment.

  4. Throat gushing Nathan? REALLY gross.

Erasing Sylar to make him the new Nathan? Wow! (Can’t wait to see all the other little parts that are going to surface over time.)

Hiro bleeding from his powers? WTF??? He has one of the coolest abilities – they can’t take that away. (Of course, it’s one of the hardest to write around. If you have a time traveler, why does anything have to happen at all?)

Next year’s the final season? The show is still really good. I hope NBC doesn’t cop out and kill it off. (There’s little incentive to get into a show anymore – they all just get canceled.) Hopefully the returning writer will make next season rock. Otherwise, my husband is going to be P*SSED!
