Brothers And Sisters: A Shocking Non-Permanent Death
So this is more of my thoughts on the big two hour special episode of “Brothers and Sisters” which aired last night. Too much went on for a recap.
Let’s get the shocking disappointment out of the way. ABC kept hyping this episode as one with a shocking death. Knowing ABC’s promotional tactics, I wasn’t expecting to be shocked that much going into this episode. Predictably, yes there was a death. Robert was technically dead for a minute or so, but they saved him. Now of course I don’t want any of our characters to die, well maybe Holly, but I certainly don’t want anyone out of a job in these tough times. However I just feel a little bit ripped off. Couldn’t they have killed someone non-important at least? I was sure they’d off David if they didn’t do the Rob Lowe trick they did.
The fallout from Robert’s heart attack, Kitty’s reaction to him running for Governor, and even Kevin’s reaction to his near death were great. I loved that Kitty FINALLY had enough with Robert’s ambitions and finally voiced out loud that neither she nor their baby would ever come first, Robert’s career always would, and she wouldn’t do it anymore. Of course her speech was for nothing, the minute she found out about his health, she ran to his side. She tried to put rules down, telling him he would do what the doctors told him he had to do to get better, damn his career. Of course the show ended with her at home with the baby having to see Kevin on TV covering up Robert’s heart attack and the severity in order to save his campaign. Oh big trouble ahead for these two! I hope Kitty sticks to her guns and makes Robert deal with his choices, which means saying goodbye to her and their son. That wouldn’t look so good for his aspirations would it?
Meanwhile Kevin broke down when he realized how close Robert came to death. It was very touching. He finally looked at Robert not so much as his boss or this republican married to his sister, but a friend he didn’t want to lose. I loved when earlier in the episode Robert told him he was doing a good job and Kevin thought the situation was weird, asking if they had to hug or something now?
Trish had the baby in this episode. It provided a somewhat comedy of errors. She dilated too quickly so couldn’t have an epidural, so she relied on Kitty’s family drama to keep her mind off the pain. The whole brood found out that Nora had seen Ryan and invited him to meet them all (he didn’t show up till the very end). Once again Kitty was the one with major issues, referring to him as her father’s bastard kid. Jeeze, didn’t she do this with Rebecca once before? Issues!
Later though after the baby was born, Trish couldn’t get out of the hospital fast enough. She decided to walk out rather than wait for her hospital sanctioned wheel chair. When Kitty offered to let her drop in every now and then, she refused, saying that wasn’t what they agreed to. Yeah, somethings going on here. I’m sensing Trish is having second thoughts about giving the baby up. Of course with Kitty and Robert’s relationship in limbo, I could see her using their “broken home” as a “not what was agreed upon” and “given a false impression of their stability” to take the baby back.
The stuff hit the fan with Tommy this week. Sarah got wind of what Tommy was doing, and she and Saul confronted him because what he did was very illegal. Sarah and Saul disapproved, suggesting he make it right before Holly found out. Too late! Holly took advantage of everyone being at the hospital to sneak into Tommy’s office (while pretending to baby sit so Tommy’s wife could join them at the hospital) and found out all she needed to know. Tommy embezzled from the company. At the end she turned him into the feds and he found himself in big trouble.
I get the feeling that Sarah is sitting pretty with Greenatopia at this point. It’s paid off for her. I could see her returning to Ojai at some point just to spite Holly, who probably thinks it’s all hers now. Not so fast Holly Harpy!
David returned in this episode and basically gave Holly a piece of his mind. He told her that he loved her, he always had, but she was always William’s mistress. He felt she deserved better, she always did. At the end of the show she called David and it seems they are getting back together. You know what, she doesn’t deserve him! NOTHING he said to her sunk in with her. He told her to forget Ojai, stop holding onto William by staying there. She can’t though. I know what Tommy did was wrong, but what I can’t wrap my brain around is how Holly doesn’t find what she’s doing is wrong too? She’s taking that company from William’s family. She has no claim on it really (well yeah he did leave her a bunch of money). But more than that, she’s convinced herself that she’s owed it. She was his whore and in death still is. She is doing just what David said, clinging to what little she can of William’s. Hello she wasn’t even his only mistress? I don’t know if I should loath Holly or feel sad for how pathetic she is? When David learns she hasn’t let go still, I hope he learns to let go of her!
Finally Rebecca knows what is going on and knows this will put her at odds with Justin. Holly’s need to hold onto William is going to put a major strain on Rebecca and Justin’s relationship. She’s going to have to choose sides. Yet again another reason I’m furious with Holly. She’s put holding onto William ahead of her own daughter’s happiness. Grrrrrr!
