Dancing With The Stars Premier Thoughts

Dancing With The Stars Premier Thoughts

Posted by Dustin on 03.10.2009 at 7:54 pm

So “DWTS” premiered last night. I was able to watch the first hour live, had to Tivo the second as it interfered with “Heroes.”

Unlike last season, which I really wasn’t interested in the stars, I do like this season. I think the injury factor did in fact help to peak interest too. I am very sad Jewel is not competing as I love her to pieces!

Last night there were some amazing dancers. Lil Kim was really good, though I had to chuckle when she talked about the first time she saw the show was when she was in jail. It was odd to see her just talking about it as openly as she was.

Giles (the Sex and the City naked guy) seems to be the one to beat. I also chuckled when his partner kept telling him to be more manly!

I think poor Steve Wozniak or Jewel’s hubby will be the first to go. They just weren’t good. I would say Steve O might be there with them, but he has fans to vote for him. Woz might be kept around by the Apple fans for a bit, so we could see Ty go home.

I totally want to see David Alan Grier come out in his “Men on” outfit and do a dance to something like “It’s Raining Men.”

As for the newbs that had to come in and replace Jewel and Nancy O’Dell? Well I thought Holly was fun and great. Melissa I am just not sure I’m sold on. Sorry, she was on one reality show that just ended, I don’t know if I think of her as a star yet. However if she’s the new Bachelorette, well I could see how ABC would wanna use her to create more buzz for that show. Plus from the moment she started, you could see she had dance training. I guess that was also a plus, given she came in at the last minute.

No More Alexis For Ugly Betty?

No More Alexis For Ugly Betty?

Posted by Dustin on 03.10.2009 at 5:58 pm

Rebecca Romijn, who plays Alexis Mead on “Ugly Betty” has a new job. She’s been cast in the ABC pilot “Eastwick.” The show is based on the novel turned film “The Witches of Eastwick.” Lindsay Price of “Jungle” is also one of the witches, along with Veronica Cartwright.

It seems that Alexis probably won’t return to “Betty” in the future. Her character was written off the show earlier this season, being sent on a vacation around the world after getting off for trying to kill Wilhelmina. She was last mentioned being in Paris with Daniel Jr, who turned out to be her son from a tryst when she was Alex.

Desperate Housewives: No You Are NOT Leaving Me!

Desperate Housewives: No You Are NOT Leaving Me!

Posted by Dustin on 03.09.2009 at 5:03 pm

Wow, last night’s “Desperate Housewives” had quite the ending. I did NOT see that one coming at all. But first let’s talk about some of the other parts of the show.

First up, Tom and Lynette basically had an “everything must go” sale at the pizzeria to make as much money as they could from it. Bree and Lynette made up in this episode over their money fight a few back. It was good to see that behind them. I would hate for that to continue to drag on honestly. The only time it’s fun to see any of the women feuding is when they do so with Edie, because Edie acts the bitch part so well.

Bree then tried to help by setting up a dinner date that functioned as a job interview for Tom. But when Tom didn’t seem all that interested, Lynette jumped to try and get the job herself. Of course this set off Tom’s “male defense mechanisms,” so he had to compete for the job as well. It was so painful watching the two of them insult and tear each other down for this job. I mean parts of it were comical, some of their insults to each other were witty. However a lot of it made me cringe to see them fighting for the same job. In the end, Tom realized if Lynette wanted to be the one to go back to work she should, they did his thing for the past 7 years. Guess mama’s going back to work. I’m not exactly sure if Tom will be a stay at home dad again or what. The kids are pretty much grown to the point where they could both work.

During all this, a little secret about Orson came out. Orson has visited Tom earlier and they got into a little tiff. Orson was trying to be supportive and understanding, knowing what it was like to lose a business and a living. Tom was insulted as Orson committed a real crime and had to pay, Tom didn’t. Orson ended up stealing some salt-n-pepper shaker Tom’s grandfather left him. Later at the party Orson stole the job interviewer’s dictation tape recorder when he felt slighted by him. Bree saw this and confronted him. Later, feeling slighted by Bree, he stole some charm of hers from her nightstand.

Okay, so Orson has an inferiority complex and all of the sudden steals from people he feels have insulted him? Am I getting this right? I totally didn’t get this one at all. I feel like the show just needed to find something to do with Orson honestly. I hope this is leading somewhere.

Susan and Katherine’s issues over Mike continued in this episode. Katherine was throwing a housewarming party, and to the shock of the others, invited Susan. They tried to act like they were okay with all of this. Edie and Gabriel had the best lines of the episode here. Edie said this was bizarre and not normal. She asked Gabby “Remember when I was with Carlos?” Gabby said “Shut it bitch!” Edie responded “Now that is normal!” I loved it, and I’m sorry, I will miss Edie when she’s gone. I am just hoping with Edie it might not be the case of “third time is the charm.”

Well issues happened later. Susan was flattered that Katherine had hung a painting of her’s for Mike above the mantel. Katherine liked it, until she found out it was Susan’s and a gift to Mike. Later at the party it was replaced, she acted like she accidentally broke the frame while dusting and it was off being fixed. Susan snooped and found the painting, which she told Mike about. This of course caused a scene, and everything thought Susan did it on purpose. Well she did, but at the same time she was also hurt by Katherine’s actions which she felt were a slight to her.

She later explained to Katherine how she loved the painting, until she found out she had done it. Susan however totally didn’t seem to get it. Katherine explained how it was hard enough she and Mike shared a past and a kid, and she lived across the street. All she wanted was a clean mantel, she knew she wasn’t going to get a clean slate with Mike. In the end Susan made it right, she pretended to “take back” the painting from Mike saying she wanted it and it meant more to her than him, since clearly they were not displaying it. She let Mike think she was being mental Susan to get the painting out of the house for Katherine’s sake, who knew what she was doing. Aw. Finally a likable Susan moment! I was very proud of Susan in this episode. Usually I just cringe at her actions.

Gabby and Carlos, well mostly Gabby, continued to be at the mercy of Carlos’ blackmailing boss. He was using Gabby as play dates for his wife while he went out with his mistress. It was too much for Gabby, who eventually told the guy she was out. She said she wouldn’t cover for him any more. He told her then come Monday, Carlos was fired.

Well Gabby got the idea. If the husband wasn’t going to tell his wife the truth, and she couldn’t do it, perhaps the mistress could? Gabby paid a visit to the mistress who cut hair at the mall. When subtly hinting around didn’t work, she used the direct approach telling her she knew all about her affair and it was wrong. Of course the mistress had only been told half the story. That the husband didn’t love the wife and of course, was going to leave her. Gabby said that wouldn’t happen as the wife was pregnant. The mistress was of course shocked, as far as she knew the husband hadn’t slept with her in over a year . . . so he claimed.

In the end, the husband was pissed and confronted Gabby. It seemed his mistress must have left him or given him an ultimatum. He claimed he really loved the mistress, she was who he wanted to be with. Gabby said then just tell your wife that. Well he went home to do just that . . . . Later Gabby got a frantic call from the wife saying she needed help, she didn’t know what to do, the husband said he was leaving her. When she and Carlos arrived, they found the husband dead with a knife in his back!

Wow, I did NOT expect that the marriage would end that way. What a shocking and twisted end to the show. Of course the really twisted part? I guess Carlos won’t lose his new job after all!

Edie discovered more of Dave’s secret past lies, and at the end of the show, through a priest who knew Dave before, learned his real last name was Dash, not Williams. The show ended with Edie googling Dave basically. And thus leads us to the end of nosy Edie fairly soon I would guess.

Ugly Betty: The Money’s All Gone!

Ugly Betty: The Money’s All Gone!

Posted by Dustin on 03.08.2009 at 7:16 pm

So this is two weeks of “Ugly Betty” thoughts. Again this is more focused on my thoughts rather than a recap, because I’m two weeks behind. Better late than never!

First I have to say that I am REALLY enjoying this show again. At the beginning of this season I was very “take it or leave it.” I was still tuning in every week, but I just didn’t love it the way I did when it first started. Now however I think they’ve really recaptured the spirit of the show and I’m loving it again. I think Daniel having Molly as a love interest and Matt for Betty has really helped. Now if we could only get Alexis back!

Betty and Matt kept dancing around each other in the past episode or two. Matt clearly likes her, he’s made it known. She wasn’t sure, and of course Henry popping up as a Facebook request gave her doubts. I was really disappointed here in what they did with Henry. During the end of his run on the show and all the nonsense with Charlie, I was really disliking Henry and how he was acting. Well Betty ended up finding out not only is he not “with” Charlie anymore, he has a new girlfriend. What! After all that this is what happened? I mean I wouldn’t want to condemn the guy with a life with Charlie myself, but for him to just go get a new girlfriend and not even try things with Betty again? Or to even reach out to her? I feel like they’ve ruined Charlie to the point he can’t be brought back, should the actor’s new up coming show show (Harper’s Island) airing next month fail.

Connor meanwhile decided to get back at Daniel . . . by stealing from Mode! He basically drained their whole bank account and prepared to flee, hoping Willy would come with him. It almost looked like she was, but she set him up to be busted by the cops at the airport. Unfortunately anticipating what could happen, he left on an earlier flight , but was hoping she’d still join him. I really didn’t like this either. Just like Henry, I feel they’ve ruined the character. There was always something a little shady about Connor, but I never expected this. I really liked him and Willy, and I liked his character in general. Tis a shame he went out this way, but it sets Mode up for an interesting challenge.

Molly told Daniel that she was dying of cancer, and she wouldn’t put him through staying by her side. She beat this once, this time she might not. She already put Conner through this once before. She ran out on him, leaving him stunned. He later though realized he wanted to be with her and hired people to find her for him. I HATE that they’ve done this to Molly! I was just starting to love her and Daniel. Why why why?

You know, given how much I don’t like what the show has done recently, it’s kind of odd I am enjoying it so much. It makes for good TV I guess! I am just optimistic Molly will at least have a good turnaround and she and Daniel will get a happy ending. I mean the man already lost a kid he thought was his. Don’t take Molly too!

With Connor absconding with their money, Mode was in big trouble. Daniel and Willy tried to get the government to bail them out, and it almost worked, until they were seen celebrating too early with a very expensive bottle of champagne. Ooops! Daniel then did what he could to save the magazine for a few months, he planned to sell off his own assets. WOW. I’m so impressed. The Daniel of a few seasons ago would not have done this. I am however having a bad feeling we could see a buyout and Daniel and Willy end up working for someone they both loath.

Meanwhile, The Suarez family got bad news, they were being evicted. The owner they had rented from for 25 years was forced to sell his house to his nephew or something, who was going to make it into a recording studio. They offered to buy it from him, but found out while they could get a loan from the bank, they needed to put 10K up front themselves.

Ignacio got the idea to challenge some local chef with a cooking show to a duel, part of this guys show. It was a Chicken Mole cook off, Ignacio would have won the 10 grand they needed. Of course he lost, and they realized the show was rigged! The chef was sorry, he needed to win so many just to keep his own show afloat. However in the end he not only hired Ignacio for one of his restaurants, he bought his mole recipe for 10 grand. Their house was saved! Loving that Ignacio has a job again. I hope we get to see him at work, it could be very interesting if they write things right.

During their struggles an anonymous check turned up, which Betty thought was from Daniel. It wasn’t, it was from Matt! We learned that Matt came from a wealthy background. The irony was Betty kept paying for their dates because Matt kept forgetting his wallet. He wasn’t a cheap date, he was just a space cadet.

Also one of the funnier moments came from Justin, who pan handled in time square and made 300 dollars. When Hilda and Betty found out he skipped school to panhandle Betty told him he was a very bad boy! When they found out he made 300 bucks, Hilda told him he was a very good boy! Loved it!

Three Strikes, Lipstick Jungle’s Out?

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Andrew McCarthy has been cast as Lilly’s father in the “Gossip Girl” spin-off, set to star Britney Snow.

This is the third “Lipstick” star to book a new pilot. It looks like our beloved “Jungle” is being torn down so to speak 🙁

Ghost Whisperer: Sam Rejects The Truth, Melinda Rejects Sam!

Ghost Whisperer: Sam Rejects The Truth, Melinda Rejects Sam!

Posted by Dustin on 03.07.2009 at 3:24 pm

Wow last night’s “Ghost Whisperer” was so good, yet so infuriating! Sam was trying to accept Melinda’s gift, while trailing her and helping her with her latest ghost problem. A school for children opened up in what was once an old insane asylum. Hello ghosts! Seriously, how creepy can you get?

The main ghost was a woman who was believed to have drowned her child, but she didn’t. She died in the 50s. She was committed for PPD, which they didn’t understand back then. She died supposedly of heart failure in the asylum, but in reality she died during shock therapy.

The shock therapy rewired her brain so that while she was there, she started seeing ghosts. One ghost presented himself as her doctor and confused her. He told her that she had killed her child, when she never did. The ghost was one of the baddies, and he was keeping her and all the other ghosts there from going into the light. He was using psycho babble to keep them afraid of the light, telling them the only thing in it was oblivion and nothingness.

In the end Melinda helped all the ghosts cross over, and reunited the mother with her grown son so she found forgiveness and happiness. The bad ghost however refused to go into the light and planned to stick around. The show ended with him standing ominously outside of Melinda’s house. It was hinted that he may be connected with the underground Grandview.

Melinda meanwhile finally told Sam/Jim the truth. She told him who he really was, how Sam went into the light, why he had all these memories that didn’t make sense. Sam/Jim of course didn’t believe her. In the end he thought much like the ghost had done with the patients, she did with him. He theorized that after she lost Jim, she latched onto him in the hospital. He thought she whispered all those details into his ears, that’s why he had the memories. She had it, saying she had tried, but this obstacle between them was too big. She told him to pack his things and go, which he did!

Grrr, so good but so infuriating! I loved that Melinda told Sam the truth, but expected this reaction from him. What I never expected was for Melinda to tell him to go. Honestly though, I don’t blame her. She was patient, she tried, Sam/Jim was the one blocking them be together. I could get how she wouldn’t want him around when he wouldn’t accept who he was. It would be too hard for her.

The ghost story I really liked this week, even though it was too much like “House on Haunted Hill” in a way with the psycho doctor ghost and his patients. The doctor ghost looks like he will cause big trouble for Melinda next week, or down the line. Next week’s previews had Sam rescuing Melinda, then waking up as Jim! I cannot wait to see next week. I better not be disappointed.

At a NBC Question and Answer session with “Hollywood Reporter,” NBC entertainment Angela Bromstad said that “Heroes” would be brought back next season with an 18-20 episode order. That number is shorter than the amount of the first and third full season orders.
