Desperate Housewives: The I Kissed A Girl Episode
So we’ll begin this week’s thoughts with the much hyped girl-on-girl kiss(es) and Susan’s story. Susan, afraid her supervisor (Guest Star Swoosie Kurtz) at the school would give her a bad review, invited her over for dinner to try and befriend her. Well Susan’s attempts were taken as flirtations and come-ons, and the woman just happened to be a lesbian. They shared a peck, but the “funny” came when she told her friends about it and Gabby asked for more details. She kissed Susan to find out what kind of a kiss it was Susan got. Long story short, Susan told the woman she was not gay, she was trying to butter her up. Of course the woman said she was going to give Susan a good evaluation anyway. They ended up becoming friends in the end.
I don’t know. I mean the storyline was humorous, and Swoosie Kurtz is awesome. However it just didn’t really fit in anywhere with the plot. It was clear this was thrown in simply as a sweeps ratings stunt. I mean I don’t think we are going to see Swoosie again, but who knows. I didn’t hate it, and I enjoyed it more than some of the other stories this week.
With his boss dead, Carlos of course was promoted to that job. This made him president of the company! Carlos had to hire his replacement, and hired an old girlfriend. Gabby wasn’t too thrilled, until she saw the old girlfriend was full-figured. She thought she had nothing to worry about as the woman clearly put on some weight. Oops! She’d always been that way. Well of course Gabby was now worried.
Lynette meanwhile was trying to find a job. She first went to Gabby to try and see if Carlos would hire her, but Gabby didn’t think it would work. Later when Lynette had an offer, Gabby insisted she come to work for Carlos after all. She wanted Lynette to babysit her husband, which she eventually realized. In the end Lynette took the job (she got Gabby to give her more money than the other offer) and Gabby realized she didn’t have to worry about Carlos.
This storyline, well I don’t have much to comment on. I mean it did at least serve plot points, to further both Carlos’ and Lynette’s careers, both of which had been in trouble. However they were a bit boring I thought story wise.
Then we come to the “oh brother!” story, the Orson one. Bree found out Orson had continued stealing from their neighbors. He claimed what started as spite stealing became a thrill for him, he couldn’t stop. At the end of the show, after dragging him to a shrink, he claimed to the doctor he was doing it because it was the one thing Bree couldn’t control.
Okay it at least had a resolution that somewhat made sense. He liked taking away Bree’s control. Still I stand by my thoughts from last week and my “tweets,” I think this story is dumb. Is it now over, or is it going to keep progressing?
Edie dug into Dave’s past, armed with his real last name, and found out that he had a daughter who died in a car crash along with his wife. Meanwhile Dave convinced Katherine to go camping with him and Mike. She wasn’t going to go, claiming she had to do her taxes. She eventually agreed to go though. Dave told her he knew it would mean so much to Mike, she meant a lot to him, he doesn’t know what Mike would do if he lost her . . .
So clearly the plan is to kill Katherine so Mike feels what Dave felt. Next week’s previews say a housewife dies. They’ve set it up to make us think it’s Katherine, but I think we all know it will be Edie who goes.
I watched this episode and am mystified by the ‘kiss’ as to why they did the hype and build up. to me it was a neither here nor there type event.
to me it was typical Susan. Rushing around like a chicken with her head cut off and then suddenly stopping realizing she has lost her head only to get it back on and then realize that she stepped in something and stopping to figure out what happened a bit too late.
