Army Wives: It’s A Girl!

In this episode, Roxy was working hard to open the Hump Bar back up. However she kept failing inspections for one reason or another, and she had advertised the bar was opening up in a few days. She couldn’t afford not to open, she’d lose too much money.

Claudia Joy and Michael argued over whether they should go to the opening of the bar. Michael wouldn’t, but Claudia Joy said she would as Roxy was her friend. However when Claudia Joy attempted to deliver some home made bouquets to the bar for the opening, she found herself unable to even get out of her car and drove off.

Emmalyn ran into Jeremy on base. He had just arrived last night, he hadn’t even seen his mother yet. She asked him to hang out, he said he’d call her . . . but looked somewhat upset by the request.

Jeremy finally went to see his mom, who was sitting and having lunch with Getti. She hugged Jeremy and walked off with him, completely ditching Getti. Later she apologized to Getti, saying it was wrong of her and very rude. He said it was okay. Clearly Denise wasn’t ready or didn’t even know how to tell Jeremy about her new BFF.

Jeremy talked to his mom about Emmalynn’s request. He just couldn’t hang out with her, he was still in love with Amanda and she was still on his mind and all he could think about. He also was angry the Hump was reopening and wouldn’t go to it.

Emmalynn meanwhile was upset Jeremy wouldn’t hang out or go to the Hump Bar with her. She talked with her mom, saying she misses Amanda, but she has a good life and just can’t be sad forever. Claudia Joy told her that was fine. However Claudia Joy changed her mind about going to the bar too. She said it wasn’t about Amanda, but about her fear that something might now happen to Emmalynn. Emmalynn told her mom that was no way to live her life, in fear of what might happen.

Trevor got called into Michael’s office after his inappropriate behavior walking off the radio show. Trevor told Michael he didn’t like doing these shows. Michael said he wouldn’t have to anymore, if he was cleared by his doctor then he’d be leaving again in 2 weeks. He also told Trevor had it been him, he probably would have punched the guy. Trevor was pleased, but kept this news from Roxy as she was stressed out as is. When she finally found out he might be going back, she wasn’t too happy. He reminded her that he was in the Army when she married him.

Chase returned home from his latest mission. One of his Delta Force buddies was having a gathering at his home. Pamela wasn’t too excited as she didn’t know any of those wives or hang out with them. However she went, and was a bit taken aback by the host wife’s house and things. She noticed her home was so nice. The woman claimed they rented and found a great deal. Pam and another wife noticed the woman’s emerald ring. She claimed it was a fake, but they didn’t think it looked fake to them at all.

Later at home Pam told Chase of her suspicions about how the woman had an excuse for all her nice stuff. Chase wanted her to drop it, but Pam being Pam wouldn’t. The next time they hung out Pam made another comment about something, and this time the husband overheard and didn’t look happy. Later that night, Chase was furious with Pam. He said that his buddy forbids Pam to hang out with or talk to his wife anymore. She admitted that a comment about their stuff might have slipped out. Chase said these men have to have his back on these missions, he doesn’t want one of them miffed at him because of his wife! Ouch! He would later apologize to her though.

Joan and Roland went to the doctor for a check-up. Joan was convinced she was having a little boy, but they are having a girl. Roland later went out to buy a little dress, not being able to help himself. Joan however was having troubles. She could relate to a little boy, but not a girl. She said the only dolls she wanted to play with were GI Joe, what if this one wants Barbie?

Meanwhile Joan’s replacement guy (whose name I always forget!) continued his attempt to try and take over Joan’s job. This time around though he was trying to do it by the book, stating how she was working over the 9 hours the army gives for pregnant women. He also made sure that the top brass would page his blackberry in the evening hours and not hers so that she could get rest. Joan was no fool. Since he clearly wanted to do her job, she piled a box load of reports on his desk saying he would have to go through them all . . . as this too is part of the job! She said she’d be going home to get some rest.

The show ended with Roxy opening the bar, as Betty called to wish her luck. Betty chuckled at the new name “Betty’s Bar and Grill,” saying it was a stupid name for the bar. However she knew Roxy would make it a success and she did right leaving it to her. Roxy has given the bar a touch of class with a swanky new bar and dining area. It seems she’s going for a little more upscale than the dive bar it was. Many people turned out, and Roland saw what was going on with Denise and Getti. At the end of the night Roland, Denise and Pam were helping Roxy clean up. Roxy had wished Claudia Joy could have come, but understood why she didn’t. However at the very end Claudia Joy and Emmalynn walked in. They both broke down in tears, feeling Amanda was here with them. The show ended with a big group hug.

In The Coming Weeks

  • Jeremy comments to his mom that he’s noticed she’s been really happy lately.
  • Denise says she can’t fight what’s going on between her and Getti anymore. She moves in for a kiss!
  • Roland sees what’s going on between Denise and Getti. He tells her that he too almost ruined his marriage.
  • Roxy hires a new waitress, (Ana Ortiz) who has eyes for Trevor. She begins making moves on him, which Roxy calls her out for!
  • My Thoughts
So what a turnaround for me. I’ve gone from really loathing Joan to actually starting to love her. In this episode I thought she was great. From her concerns that her daughter might want a Barbie (hilarious!) to the way she stuck it to the jerk trying to get her job. Really, how low could he go trying to use concern and the Army’s regulations about working while pregnant to get his foot in the door. He is a snake in the grass and needs to be smacked with a rake!

After my complaining about Claudia Joy in the past few episodes, well maybe someone at the writers’ table saw it too and woke up. They finally had Claudia Joy back with the girls in this episode. Thank you! We once again saw her and her family dealing with Amanda’s death, which it almost seemed had gotten swept under the rug. I really liked that it was Emmalynn dealing with survivors guilt in this episode and being the one to say “Hey I’m sad, but I still have a life to live and I want to live it.”

Okay so what is going on with Emmalynn and Jeremy? It was almost like she was asking him out on a date, and he was afraid to say yes. Are they setting up a romance here? Because she’s still in high school and he’s in the Army, which I’m pretty sure would be a big NO. Jeremy’s already in enough do-do with Michael as is!

Finally the new mystery Pam has gotten herself into, love it! That family obviously has more money than comparable Army families do, and Pam is no dummy, she knows something is going on. By the way the husband reacted, I think he’s up to some shady stuff. A bit of spoiler talk here! Next week Chase gets arrested, shocking Pam. I’m wondering what happens. A fight with his partner? Or maybe whatever that guy is up to, Chase gets framed for or accused of? Or what if Chase and this guy are involved in something shady together? The possibilities!

    1. I agree with your thoughts on this week’s episode, Dustin. I do not want an Emmalynn and Jeremy romance. Going from being in love with her sister to dating her would be ick. Bring in new characters as love interests for each of them, if they need to have a romance.

My husband, who went to a military college, watched one of the first episodes of this season with me. One of the things he noticed about the show was Pam and Chase living like normal army on the base. He said that Delta Force men were usually very educated and well paid and would not live in the same type of base housing as Roxy and Trevor.

    2. Crap, it clipped my last paragraph. I had said something about finding it ironic that Pam was suspicious of the other Delta Force wife whose family had a lot more cash.

    3. it sounds to me like emmalynn and jeremy were friends and emmalynn hung out with Jeremy and Amanda. So, I don’t think she was wanting a romance as such – just wanted to hang out with a friend.
