American Idol 7: Country Week

American Idol 7: Country Week

First up, I am not a country music fan at all. So this was not an easy week for me to watch, especially since I am not familiar with most of these songs. Oddly I don’t mind Dolly Parton too much, so she made it a bit better. Fortunately the show is now finally down to an hour, so it doesn’t conflict with what comes on after it anymore.

No shock, Carly Smithson got her mojo back and was the leader of the pack of the girls. David Archuleta got his back too and seemed to lead the males. Who is going home? I’m not sure, but I will say that I hope it’s Jason Castro at this point. I’m over everything being turned into an “island” song. I honestly can’t believe he didn’t sing “Islands In The Stream.” Most improved overall I think was Syesha, who I thought did a good a job as anyone might be able to do with that song (“I Will Always Love You.”) Problem is whoever sings it will always be compared to Whitney.

  1. I am a country fan and this week was hard for even me to stomach. The problem is that for the younger generation, no one knows half of Dolly’s songs. And usually, if the audience doesn’t know the song, they’re not going to remember the performance, kinda like what Simon says.

  2. Did you see that David Cook was hospitalized and treated for blood pressure issues last night?

  3. Is it just me or are the judges overly harsh on Carly every week yet they seem to love some of the most sad and pathetic performances by some of the men. I understand they maybe expect more from her, but then when are they gonna hold some of these men to the same standard.

  5. I’m a country fan, and though I’m not a big fan of Dolly, I have heard some of her songs. I think the bottom 3 will be Jason, Syesha, and Ramiele with Syesha going hope for two reasons. One she was in the bottom 2 last week, and second cause she took on a song that was done by Whitney.

  6. Stress could cause both palps and BP issues – and I’d say this is a pretty stressful environment – but 25 is REALLY young to have blood pressure high enough to require treatment. I hope it doesn’t end up taking him out of the competition; he’s one of the better ones.

I’ll go with Niki’s bottom 3 and it’s a toss up for me between Ramiele and Syesha. I’m just not a Ramiele fan and although I didn’t like the Whitney part of Syesha’s song, thist part was actually decent.

Oh. Yeah. They’re ripping on Carly big time. Don’t Europeans dress different style-wise than we do though?

  7. I’ve actually thought that Ramiele would be in the bottom three before now but she’s always been safe. I’m not really a fan of Ramiele’s but I would at least like to see her in the bottom three.

  8. Dial has Jason, Kristy Lee and Ramiele in the bottom 3, Ramiele at the very bottom.

  9. we will see how accurate that is. I think Ramiele is the one who deserves to go home at this point.
