American Idol 7: Top 24 Show Thoughts
So I watched both the men and the women perform on AI. At this point I can honestly say without 1) taking notes throughout the shows or 2) going onto the AI site to watch recaps, I’m not going to remember all these people’s names and what they sang. As the season goes on, I see them more and more and of course the cast gets whittled down, it will be much easier to remember people. I’m not there yet.
With that said, these are my initial thoughts on the shows. First, I have to wonder how much of a hand AI had in influencing the song choices. The men’s choices, for the most part, were just terrible! They had such good pop, rock and psychedelic rock songs to pick from and most of them chose crooner songs. Honestly, am I supposed to believe one of these kids decided to sing a Neil Sedaka song? The men’s night at least ended on a high note with someone choosing The Doors!
The women overall sounded better and made much better choices. The singing nurse continues to stand out for me with the women, because she has such a smokey and unique voice. I was glad she didn’t go for Janice last night, but wasn’t overly thrilled with her song choice. Too much skat and repetition of one line. Again how much did AI steer these song choices? Clearly they will be doing a Motown show again at some point, because I don’t think I heard anyone pick a Supremes song or anything from Motown really. I could be wrong on that though.
Any chance we can get a weekly poll on the forums for who should be going on AI?

I didn’t find the girls to have very many stand outs. I thought Remiele (sp?) was quite good (she’s the short on with the big voice). Her voice was strong and solid throughout. And I like Syesha. The young Blonde in the yellow at the beginning also did well. Of the guys, I like the young guy that had vocal chord surgery – the crowd favourite cutie. I also liked the Australian. And there was one other that I liked but now I can’t even remember him so I guess that proves he wasn’t memorable. But overall I thought we could easily have the contest down to 6 people overall instead of having to sit through months more of this. I guess we’ll see who gets the boot tonight and gets a second try next week.

I am really liking the Irish girl. I think Simon was full of it when he said she was over-hyped, she sang well and the song choices sucked so I expect more out of her next time.

I liked Joann but agree that the song wasn’t great and the rest I was indifferent about.

I was shocked Joann went. Amy wasn’t good, but I’m sure there was another girl (blond?) who should have gone before JOann.
As for the men, I only remember the Leif Garrett looking one, he should have gone.

I thought Alaina would go – she is the blond who does the imitation of Britney Spears – she copped major attitude when getting feedback Wed nite.

I thought Kady did the imitation of britney spears? maybe I’m confused… I liked Alaina though, and Asia’h and Ramiele. I felt that America got it right last night.

Kady is the impressionist and Alaina is the one who kind of resembles Carrie Underwood. The irish girl’s name is Carly. The girl who opened on Wednesday is Kristy Lee(she was sick with the flu and bronchitis). The guy who had vocal surgery is David Archuleta, the Australian guy is Michael Johns and the other guy is Luke(he is the one the judges said had a forgettable performance).

For some reason I am having a hard time getting into this seasons AI. I think it is because sooooooooo many of them have had some sort of record deals that went sour already, it just doesn’t seem to be like it used to. Years ago the contestants seemed “SHOCKED” that they got a good comment, and now it seems like it is expected. I mean Carly, come’on, just because your CD flopped overseas and changed your name doesn’t mean anything. I do like the really young cute dark haired kid. Will be interested in seeing who makes the top 12!
