Brothers and Sisters: Justin Comes Home
Last night’s episode of “B&S” was heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time!
The show began with Robert and Kitty at a soldier’s funeral. Robert is getting flack from his campaign staff for attending these funerals, for talking about his family too much, for not focusing on the issues. Kitty is also under fire and some think she should resign.
Justin was back and at a VA hospital recuperating, his knee and leg had been injured and undergone many surgeries. Kitty, Nora and Kevin drove to the hospital to pick up Justin. On the way they heard a radio show skewering Robert, as well as Kitty and her family. Norma and Kevin couldn’t take it and wanted to call in, but Kitty wouldn’t let them . . . until she too reached her breaking point. The guy made comments about how Nora was a traitor, and also ended up slandering Kevin and Jason. Kitty called in, and of course made things so much worse with her comments. That and the fact that Nora and Kevin added two cents in as well.
We were introduced to an old friend of Rebecca’s this week, who Rebbecca set up with a job at the family company as the office manager. There was a hilarious scene when she met Saul at work and offered to set him up with her single aunt. When he refused, she assumed he was gay and had a friend she could set him up with. Tommy interjected in that his uncle was not gay, she had made a mistake. She of course felt terrible about it, but it was humorous as we the viewers know the truth! I also have a bad feeling about Rebecca’s friend. Any friend of Rebecca’s and Holly’s is suspicious in my book and probably will end up causing trouble somehow.
Joe the scum sucking husband told Sarah that he had reconnected with his ex Paula. Sarah laid into him, saying she realizes now she wasted so many years on him. She said she loved him, but the sad thing is he is incapable of loving himself. Later Rebbecca finally admitted to Sarah that Joe’s kiss wasn’t one sided, she kissed him back and even led him on. Sarah was not happy and told her she was only confessing because the guilt got to her. Had she told her earlier it could have helped, but she didn’t. Rebecca ended up back at Holly’s by the end of the episode, feeling she didn’t fit in with the family at all and had only been pretending all summer long. Holly admitted she is the one who did this to Rebbecca, and she’s sorry. Aw, so touching . . . to bad I don’t feel bad for either of them!
Justin meanwhile came home and was determined to try and live as normally as he could. Nora however was warned that once the pain meds from the hospital wore off, Justin would be in extreme pain. The doctor said normally they’d prescribe something, but Justin is being insistent he not take anything because of his addiction problems. The doctor said this was brave and stupid at the same time, because it was not realistic that he could recover and do his therapy without the meds. The episode ended with Justin in tears because the pain meds wore off and he wouldn’t take anything. Nora held him as they tried to deal with it. So heartbreaking!
Robert meanwhile went on the radio guys show to do damage control and stood up to the guy, saying Kitty’s family may be different, but that is what makes them American and keeps him close and reminded of how this country is made up of many different people. Kitty of course is probably going to continue to remain an issue for Robert’s campaign. I really hope they don’t plan on calling off the wedding over these issues. I honestly however can’t see them making Robert the president. It would just change way too much of the show. Of course I guess the presidency issue isn’t something that has to be dealt with until next year.
I think that there might be something going on in the future with Rebecca’s friend and Tommy. Just a thought.

A thought? It’s SO obvious where that one’s going. Julia’s been a b*tch for months. Tommy is getting frustrated and has basically been severed from his family. Enter Cute Blond Girl. The writing is on the wall. (I’m holding out hope that they’ll have a twist here that I’m not expecting.)
Kitty calling that show was such a mistake. It seemed rather out of character, but I guess it can be reasoned that she can only take so much when her family is being attacked. They’re doing a good job scripting this show — I bet by next year people will wish they could vote for McAllister in the real election.
Joe is such a schmuck. I hope Sara’s boo-hooing doesn’t last too long — he’s SO not worth it.
I am kind of proud of this show for taking on the soldier’s story. It’s not easy and it’s certainly not pretty. But it’s not the story we see very often. I don’t have any personal experience with this topic to relate to, but it seems like they are doing it justice…
