Private Practice: Episode Two

Private Practice: Episode Two

So I have to be honest, I only half heatedly watched tonight’s episode as I had so much going on. The episode dealt with two stories, Taye Diggs’s character (I can never remember his name) and the receptionist kid were dealing with an elderly lady who was poisoning her son, but because he was an alcoholic and she couldn’t get him to stop drinking. Meanwhile Addison and Naomi were dealing with a baby switch at the hospital, one of the couples involved were patients of Naomi’s she impregnated using invitro.

Now I know it’s only the second episode, and I know I wasn’t paying really close attention, but I wasn’t too impressed. It seems like each episode in this serious is more of a standalone type episode, whereas with Grey’s there is some overall story that connects them and continues. Again it may only be because it’s the second episode.

Unfortunately Wednesday night is crowded, I’ve got “Bionic Woman,” “Private Practice,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and possibly “Pushing Daisies” (I Tivo’d this to watch). I’m starting to think “Private Practice,” which is up against “Bionic Woman,” is going to quickly end up on the “record and watch later when I have a chance” list.

  1. I haven’t gotten into Bionic Woman, so PP was on my big screen last night. You’re right, it’s missing a thread — a tension — to keep you coming back. They have some potential with the needly doctor, but it’s not even up to a simmer yet, let alone a full boil (i.e. McDreamy suddenly turning out to be married after turning out to be Meredith’s superior). I almost find Amy Brenneman’s character to be more compelling. And I want to see what’s up with her and Cooper.
Not sure how long I’ll stick with this one, but it was convenient that it was on just after Pushing Daisies. (Now there’s a weird show!)

  2. I thought this episode was much better than the first one. I have to admit it won’t light any fires, it at least drew me in more this time.

  3. They seem to be spending to much time establishing these characters but failing to give us any forseeable goals or problems to face. Pushing Daisies was rather good, i rather enjoyed the color choices. The Bionic Woman had me all full of mixed feelings, I liked seeing Washington but being gay myself I can’t forget that hes a bigot and that takes away from it all.

  4. Taye Digg’s character’s name is Sam Bennett, which I thought was kinda funny since that name is on Passions.

  7. I’m sticking with it, I think it has alot of potential. We didn’t know McDreamy was married this early in Grey’s.

  8. I like PP My husband actually put his book down to watch,( It might of been because Cooper was on Prision Break which is also another good Show) I like the fact that Viola, wanted to smash the bike and I didn’t see the dad switching the babies never saw it coming, how could a parent switch babies, And I loved the interaction between the two moms as they switch the babies back, I did how ever think it could of been and egg switch.

  9. I kinda like the more laid back tone PP has at times. The slower pace makes it believable that they deal with so many personal issues while at work, where on Grey’s it seems your lucky if you get your labs run between staff drama.

  10. I like PP. It is a lot different then Grey’s and that is what I like about it. The SL are great. I would have wanted to break the bike just like Viola. It was heartbreaking to see the two Moms exchange the babies. You could tell that it was painful for them as they are bonded to the baby that they have cared for since birth. Where I work the Dad could not have changed the babies because each baby is in the room with the parents.
