The Britney Controversy
I had posted this on a personal blog, but am copying it over here. Technically I guess it is TV news, and everyone is talking about it. Feel free to add your own 2 cents (but try to keep comments tasteful!)
Like many Americans I am guessing, I only tuned into the VMAs to see Britney Spears open it. If you missed this, um, performance? Well you can watch it over at MTV. What can I say about this mess? First, the media is making her out to be a fat cow, which she’s not. She’s full figured, she’s had two kids, she has a real body. She probably should have made better wardrobe choices, but she’s by no means a fat cow. I know Britney loves to lip sych, but for her come back performance it was one time she SHOULDN’T have! She also stopped singing at times, as if she got confused or scared. As for her dancing, did she forget how? Terrible! She was stiff as a board. It is clear that she was petrified during this whole thing. Unfortunately now she’s being crucified! I don’t know, can she over come this? Will people buy her new album? Sadly I really wanted her to rock it, just to show the world and media who all talked badly about her. What can I say, I like rooting for the underdog.

Yeah Dustin I am right there with you on Brittney. Where were her handlers?!?!?! She should have done a 30 sec accapelle then danced her heart out. I think something went wrong at the last minute and they took a chance and improvised, she looked like she didn’t know the steps. She also looked scared and a bit woozy. I think her body was hot in that outfit.

I also tuned in just to see her. I don’t think her body looked that bad. I’ve had 2 kids and wish I looked that good. What bothered me about her performance is that it looked like she wasn’t even trying. I can understand lip synching when you are dancing your butt off, but she wasn’t. I was disappointed. She used to really work it on stage, but last night I thought she didn’t even try, she just went through the motions.

I don’t think Brit is as bad as the media makes her out to be. You know what would the media think a average mom. I guess we are fat if we are not a size 0. I think that her performance was not as bad as heard it be on the radio, but it was not the old Brit either. But with everything she has going on right now I can somewhat understand. I hope the media will less harsh on her and she get her life together for her and the boys.

I had heard the song prior to the VMA’s and really liked it and I had high hopes for the performance. In reality no she is not fat but she had no business wearing that outfit and some one close to her should have told her so. I had also heard there was supposed to be some illusion stuff from Chris Angel in it and I’m not sure what happened to all of that. It was a train wreck! But you can’t party till the early morning every night and then get up and be at your mental or physical best.

I love Britney, and hope she recovers from this. If you watch the Pre-Show rehearsal for the number, she seems a lot more into it. I 100% blame Sarah Silverman for Britney’s poor performance: How well would you perform if you knew as soon as you finished, someone was going to insult your children on national television?
Sarah Silverman is an unfunny and horrible person, and yeah Britney was bad, but I still have high hopes for her.

I think her best bet for now would be to stay out of the limelight for a while. She needs time to take care of her personal life and to find herself again. She is talented, but right now she is nothing more than sport for the media and that is to her detriment.

I’m with you guys. I heard from numerous sources that they were reporting that she was fat. I would LOVE to be as fat as Britney! I have 2 kids too and would gladly take her body over mine! LOL
I also thought the whole performance sucked and will lead to her ultimate demise as a pop star. See what happens when you peak to early? A has-been by the age of 26. Very sad.
09.10.2007 at 11:19 pm
Can’t really rack it up to peaking too early though. Justin Timberlake started almost the same time she did, and he’s still topping the charts. Hell, he’s even done fairly well at acting.
Same goes for Christina Aguilera and others who started and peaked with Britney.
Of course for every Justin and Christina there are the JCs, Lances, Joeys, etc. So maybe Justin and Christina are just the lucky ones.
Still, it’s really sad what has happened to her. Between Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears…it’s just depressing. And they have to go through it all under the watchful eye of the media. Very sad.

It would have helped, if she hadn’t partied till the break of dawn the three days before her performance and actually tried, it also didn’t help that after she bombed she decided to show her down below AGAIN when exiting a limo.
I find it to hard to cheer someone on who it so obviously NOT trying.

As for the Sarah Silverman thing it has been reported numerous times that no one actually knew her material all she said was “Joke, Joke, 50 Cent Brit”
But honestly, if you’re going to try and say “It’s Sarah’s fault” then Brit is not, nor ever will again be a performer. Should we rack up her failed attempt at a comeback the other night on the tabloids? How about ehr custody battle? I don’t recall anyone jumping to paris’ defense when Sarah said they were doign to paint the prison bars like penis’ so she would feel more at home, while the girl was sitting in the audience a few days before her trial.
Incase people are forgetting Sarah is a comiden, and she’s never hidden the fact taht she’s blunt and swift to crack jokes on ANY topic
What because Britt was performing suddenly she’s off limits?
i’m sorry I find that absurd, Britt did terrible. SHE danced poorly, SHE chose to wear the outfit she did even though while she’s no where near fat, she’s not in shape enough to sport a glorifed bikini and bottoms on stage, SHE chose to party non stop before, SHE chose to do a comback performance this soon, and SHE chose to mouth the song.
This thing was doom’d from the start. And for once Britt needs to STOP blaming other and Blame her fricken Self.
Her and Lind are the same, it’s never their fault always others. Maybe when she decided to take responsibilty for what she does, she can recover otherwise all she’s going to be rememeber’d as is the chick who went insane, made a fool of herself and faded out.

Bravo Malorie!!

I honestly didn’t enjoy Britney’s performance on the VMAs. It just seemed like she was lost and confused on stage – or maybe she was acting. I don’t know. With all of the media lately about the custody battle, it’s gotta be tough. I don’t feel sorry for her. I just feel like we see too much of Britney in the press. It’s like she’s the new Michael Jackson or Princess Di.
09.11.2007 at 9:21 am
I didn’t say Britney was off limits because she was performing. I said her KIDS should be off limits because of MORALS.
Sarah Silverman isn’t “blunt”, she’s downright cruel. She called two innocent children “mistakes” for the sake of some laughs. I don’t find that humorous on any level, and have to question the character of anyone who does.
09.11.2007 at 11:26 am
I agree with you 100% DOOL Mike! Britney’s children did not sign up to be ridiculed on national television. They are innocent little boys who have absolutely no control over who their parents are or what they do. I realize that Sarah Silverman was only trying to be funny, but hardly anyone laughed. She looked just as ridiculous as Britney did.
I also feel a bit sorry for Britney. I know she has brought most of this on herself, but I just thought her eyes looked sad. I can’t imagine the world watching every move I make 24/7. And what a sad society we are when we call that fat!! Okay, maybe she doesn’t have the body of a 16 year old girl anymore, but it’s because she’s 25 and has 2 children. I truly hope she can bounce back from this. If for no other reason than to stick it to all the people who have slammed her.

I just want to say thank you Dustin, for being respectful in your review of this situation. I was once the biggest Britney fan ever, and now, im just scared for her!
09.11.2007 at 3:17 pm
I’m sorry, I find this whole debate on Sarah Silverman to be absurd. No one ‘signs’ up to be made fun of
and hoenslty she said the word Mistake, someone either on this board or another of the same topic said something about what if they turn their tv’s on 20 years from now and hear that.
Big deal?
Honestly if you are all so upset about the fact thtat they called them ‘beautiful mistakes’ in a JOKE, then We better start burning every tabloid and closing down every blog site, because when those kids are old enough to read and type they’re going to see a whole lot fricken worse things that are NOT said in a fricken joke
All this debate is, are people trying to justify why britt did bad you may not have claimed her to be off limits but you stated that you thought it was 100% Sarah’s fault that Britt performed poorly.
Fact is, Britt makes her choices and she’s made some pretty damn horrible ones as of late.
People SHOULD be scared for her, shes a friggen wreck who’s [ ] close to having something truly horrible happen.
Is it sad she’s such a mess? Yes. But honestly if she’s not goint to attempt to clean herself up I’m not going to wish she would.
She’s the one who dressed like a low class hooker, she’s the one who chooses to party every night till the early dawn, she’s the one who makes these choices, no one even has PROOF that anyone knew Sarah’s jokes before hand because do you honestly think MTV would have been like “you want to say ALL that” back off, or better yet THEY could have moved her to a diffrent slot but they didn’t they knew damn well what chances they were talking as did britt
I think its pathetic that a grown as woman can’t ever take responsibility for what she does wrong.
She needs help, lots of it and she needs to start owning up to it, her fans need to also stop pointing the finger at others.
Your starlett is a train wreck, and it’s her own damn fault.

Yes Brit’s performance was horrible, on another bloggers site you can actually see pictures where her glue on nails were popping off during the performance, but it’s not like Sarah’s performance was any better. She didn’t get the laughs, most of it just seemed very awkward, and it seemed unrehearsed. Granted I know most comedy is best ad-libbed since you don’t know how the audience will react, and the audience did not react to her well. Honestly MTV did a lousy job picking the opening acts. Yes I wish Brit would have done better and I wish Sarah would have been funnier because I like both of them.
